Pontiac Fiero NHTSA Frontal Crash Test

This is one of the original crash test videos for the Pontiac Fiero. In this video, dummies were restrained with the factory seatbelts. "Fieros are deathtraps!" Not hardly...... Many people think that the Pontiac Fiero is an unsafe vehicle due to its small size. It turns out that the Fiero was the safest vehicle ever tested by the NHTSA without airbags. It was the second safest vehicle on the road in 1985, second to the Volvo DL Wagon. The DL had airbags. Even by today's standards, the Fiero still rivals many newer vehicles on the road today. The methods of testing are exactly the same in 2010 as they were back in 1979 when NHTSA began testing cars. Cars are tested by impacting a solid barrier at 35 MPH. The Fiero received a 5 star crash rating for both driver and passenger. A 5-star rating means a 10% or lower chance of serious injury. So 5-star means the same now as it meant 25 years ago. Here are a few comparisons: 1984 Pontiac Fiero Driver ***** Passenger ***** Rollover***** Head Injury Criterion: 356.5/308.6 Chest Deceleration (G): 30.9/29.9 Femur Load 840/800 800/740 2003 Cadillac Deville Driver * Passenger *** Rollover **** Head Injury Criterion: 826/507 Chest Deceleration (G): 75/58 Femur Load: 825/1297 875/848 2007 Buick Lacrosse Driver ***** Passenger ***** Rollover **** Head Injury Criterion: 374/259 Chest Deceleration (G): 43/42 Femur Load: 1099/1112 909/405 2009 Ford Focus Driver ***** Passenger ***** Rollover **** Head Injury Criterion: 521/389 Chest ...

Drama at the 2008 Fiero Reunion

There were many stories at the 2008 Fiero Reunion at the Marriott Centerpoint in Pontiac, Michigan. Here are two. The parking space standoff ended peacefully; they settled it like gentlemen; we would expect no less of Fiero owners. Now, those Corvette, Solstice, Miata and Viper ruffians.... well, you know THEM;-)

My '84 Fiero (Bought It New, Had It Ever Since)

Its on-again, off-again development took 6 years before it finally saw the light of day. Like almost every inexpensive sports car through history, it used numerous components from high-volume production cars to keep costs down. Pontiac's crack marketing department predicted total sales of 60000 that first year. Imagine their surprise when 30000 people placed orders for the car sight unseen. By the time of its official introduction in September of 1983, there was a six-month waiting list. By model-year's end, 136840 Fieros had flowed out the doors of its Pontiac, MI assembly plant, a record for any mid-engined car. It was chosen as the Pace Car for the Indianapolis 500 that year, powered by a Pontiac 2.7L Super Duty 4 making 232 hp The 2000 Pace Car replicas sold to the public had the standard 92 hp Iron Duke 4. Its Enduraflex body panels, bolted to a driveable space frame, never dented and never rusted. The lower door and fender panels would even bounce back from minor impacts. What GM learned about these body panels with the Fiero was applied to its first-generation minivans and its Saturn line of small cars. This one was my first, and only new car. 26 years (as of April 9, 2010), 144000 miles, (5500 miles on this engine), two owners (for the first four years, the bank owned it. LOL). I ordered it in October 1983 from Townsend Pontiac in Merrillville, IN; it finally came in April 1984. Mine is a Sport Coupe (the middle model), red with a gray interior and alloy wheels ...

Sharpie Fiero

All the artwork was done with Sharpies, so i think Sharpie Fiero is appropriate. One side of the car is pretty well covered and the other side is completly blank. The paint is Flat White. The car was outside of Hot Rod Refinishers in Rockville, Maryland and the artists name is Pinstripe Chris. It's a neat sharpie art car... kindof reminds me of the sharpie lambo except not a lambo. Enjoy!

Pontiac Fiero GT--D&M Motorsports Walk Around Review

Pontiac Fiero GT Video Review Presented by D&M Motorsports. The Pontiac Fiero is a mid-engined sports car that was built by the Pontiac division of General Motors from 1984 to 1988. The Fiero—meaning "proud" in Italian and "wild", "fierce", or "ferocious" in Spanish—was designed by George Milidrag and Hulki Aldikacti as a Pontiac sports car. The Fiero was the first two-seater Pontiac since the 1926 to 1938 coupes, and also the first and only mass-produced mid-engine sports car by a US manufacturer. Many technologies incorporated in the Fiero design such as plastic body panels were radical for its time. Alternative names considered for the car were Sprint, P3000, Pegasus, Fiamma, Sunfire, and Firebird XP.[citation needed] The Fiero 2M4 (2-seat, Mid-engine, 4-cylinder) was on Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list for 1984. The 1984 Fiero was the Official Pace Car of the Indianapolis 500 for 1984, beating out the new 1984 Chevrolet Corvette for the honor. 370168 Fieros were produced over the relatively short production run of five years; by comparison, 163000 Toyota MR2s were sold in its first five years.[1] At the time, its reputation suffered from criticisms over performance, reliability and safety issues. Today however, compared to less adventurous attempts at two-seaters such as the Ford EXP, the unique style of the Fiero compared to other American cars has left it a cult following as a collectible car. It remains a popular chassis for rebodies and electric conversions ...

Pontiac Fiero NHTSA Frontal Crash Test WITHOUT Seatbelts

This is another crash test video for the Pontiac Fiero. In this test, the occupants are NOT wearing seatbelts. This goes to show how deadly even the safest cars can be when the occupants are not wearing seatbelts. This was tested at 29.7 MPH into a solid Barrier. The driver would have a fair chance of surviving, but would have broken ribs and sternum. The passenger would have a broken neck from its head going through the windshield. The Fiero received a 5 star crash rating for both driver and passenger. A 5-star rating means a 10% or lower chance of serious injury. So 5-star means the same now as it meant 25 years ago. WITH SEATBELTS Driver ***** Passenger ***** Head Injury Criterion: 356.5/308.6 Chest Deceleration (G): 30.9/29.9 Femur Load 840/800 800/740 WITHOUT SEATBELTS Driver ** Passenger ** Head Injury Criterion: 870.5/552 Chest Deceleration (G): 62.6/90.6 Femur Load 1113/1170 1056/1067 So as you can see, by not wearing your seatbelt, the crash test rating of this car goes from 5 stars to only 2 stars. Thats going from less than 10% of serious injury to 36-40% chance of serious injury!!!!! Before you comment, realize this test is WITHOUT SEATBELTS. Even a safe car like the Fiero cannot protect you if you dont WEAR YOUR SEATBELT!!!!!

Fiero electric motor transaxle first test

This is a major milestone in my 1986 Pontiac Fiero electric car conversion project. After numerous delays getting the correct adapting hardware for the new motor to the old transaxle, we finally mounted the clutch and motor assembly onto the transaxle and frame of the car. With everything in place, I applied a regular 12 car battery to the motor and amazingly, it ran without a hitch! See my website (www.roboticmayhem.com) for more information on this project.

Changing a Fiero Headlight

Coming home from my buddy's house in Grayslake Saturday night, a cop stopped me and told me my passengers' side headlight was burned out. (High beam, fine, low beam not working.) Fortunately, the Wal-Mart in Gurnee is open 24 hours a day, and I was able to buy one before I drove back to Chicago. I replaced the old one Sunday afternoon. All those sounds you hear are people leaving the 10:45am service at the church down the street and arriving for the 12:45 service. Noisy, aren't they? :D Changing a Fiero headlight is a little more difficult than changing the usual sealed-beam headlight unit, since the Fiero has retractable headlights, but only because the arm between the headlight motor and the headlight assembly can trap your hand if you don't follow the directions in the owner's manual. But it's no more difficult that changing one on Firebirds and Corvettes of that era, or any other car with hidden headlights, for that matter. You people who have cars made since about 1986 and only have to replace a halogen bulb can recuse yourselves. But you do have to worry about not getting oils from your fingers on the bulb; it shortens the life of it. And there is that little matter of water condensation inside the lens. And yellowing and dulling that can only be gotten rid of by buffing compound and elbow grease. The job on the Fiero takes about 20 minutes, during which time I found that the retaining spring that keeps the headlight unit from flopping around had rusted and fallen ...

1987 Pontiac Fiero GT STK # 1159

1987 Pontiac Fiero GTs are hard to find with 29285 original miles. This Fiero has the numbers matching 2.8L V6 and automatic transmission. The silver paint glistens just as good as when it left the showroom. Inside this gray interior is cloth seats, power locks, power windows, tilt wheel, air conditioning, and an AM/FM/Cassette radio. Power brakes bring this aerodynamic beauty to a stop. Pontiac factory wheels and radial tires round this Fiero out. Introduction to my 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT

This is the introductory video for my 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT. I'll be changing both rear wheel bearings and installing a Rodney Dickman steering rack bushing and inner tie-rod end. Once mechanically all set, I'll be painting the car, so I'll do quite a bit of sanding and I'll base coat/clear coat back to black. You can find out more about the car at it's website: www.butchthecat.com The quick and dirty, I purchased the car in 2002 with 49000 miles. It now as about 64k miles and is stored winters. It is a well optioned late 1988 year car and is very fun to drive.

EV Talk - Episode 02 - The Electric Fiero

The Future is Here: In this episode I introduce Jared Leverington. He's been driving a converted electric vehicle for 3 years. His views on range and public charging might be surprising to some, but being he has the experience of driving all-electric for 3 years, that makes his opinion more sound than most. His vehicle runs on 120 Volts of lead-acid deep-cycle batteries.

Hot Stock Fiero GT 2.8 5-speed

Stock Fieros 2.8s are hotter than you might think, with a little tweaking for efficiency: This car has up-graded distributer, 45000 volt coil, 8mm magnecore wires, platinum plugs (iridium better), K&N air filter, no EGR system to strangle engine (allows your engine to breath), 180 degree thermostate (2.8s want and need to run cooler); all resulting in smoother, stronger, cleaner, more efficient running, and much better gas mileage. It's like a different car! Next tweak will be a stage 3 clutch. In this video, I dumped the clutch at 4000rpm, but 5k would be mutch more impressive. I still got 30-ft. of rubber off the line. That means I'm definetely getting more than the factory rated 140hp, just by giving her the tweaks she wants and needs. On the high-way she jumps to 90 faster than she used to jump to 80.

My old 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT. I bought this for $2000 summer of 2009. I didn't know much about fieros when I bought it and later found out how hard it was to find a descent GT let alone an 88-the last year they made them I got lucky there, anyway I sold it sometime ago and I miss to this day it was a really fun and stylish little vehicle to drive.
