DOWNLOAD THE SONG FOR FREE AT www.freshbigmouf.com Every year the Hare Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork, Utah puts on the biggest Holi (festival of colors) celebration in the Western Hemisphere. In 2011 the Spanish Fork Police department estimated that over 40000 people attended in the first day alone of the two-day festival. Organizers carefully rationed their stash of approximately 120000 bags of colored powder. Participants come from all over the country (and some from abroad), but the majority of attendees for the Festival of Colors are students from Brigham Young, Utah Valley, and Utah universities. The Holi Festival of Colors celebrates the triumph of good over evil and ushers in the spring season. The festival commemorates a Hindu myth about a witch, Holika, who burned children in a fire. One child repeated the Hare Krishna mantra as he was carried into the flames and the witch was burned instead. At the Spanish Fork festival, rock and roll, R&B, and other modern interpretations of the mantra are played by musicians throughout the day and chanted in a call and response game between performers and attendees. The main event of each festival is the coordinated throwing of colored powder, when the sky above the crowd is filled with rainbow puffs of dye. This video is a tribute to the Utah version of Holi, which the director, Evan Carpenter, has attended faithfully for the last six years. Top Fest popped up at a time when modern Albanian music was living through a chaotic period, and when artists were uncertain about the ways to follow in order to make it in the music business. At Top Fest, young people were for the first time able to listen Hip-Hop, Alternative, Funk, Pop or Rhythm and Blues in Albanian. Moreover, after the second edition of Top Fest in 2005, the number of compact disc production studios jumped from three to more than ten and hundreds of young Albanian artists' covers could be found in various music shops. During the first edition of Top Fest in 2004, almost half of the artists came from Kosovo, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and other parts of Europe where Albanians reside. Gainesville, FL. 8th st. NW. Early morning of Nov. 1st. A house show we shall never see. GET THE FACTS STRAIGHT: This video was shot at a house show that had no affiliation with "The Fest 8." It DID feature some bands that were playing the Fest (BTMI, Chotto Ghetto) but in no way did The Fest sponsor it. The person who was tased DID tuant and yell at the cops. Anything else, I cannot confirm. THE MAJORITY OF FEST GOERS ARE NOT LIKE THIS, this was an incident that got extremely out of hand and that is the reason why I filmed it. It's in no way an accurate representation of "Festers" but a small handful who made the situation escalate. I don't agree with the violence of the situation (on either side), however, if you are going to taunt the cops and not follow their commands, you will most likely be tased. Paul Desmond plays "Emily" - Monterey Jazz festival 1975
Paul Desmond - November 25, 1924 - 1977. Alto Saxophonist. Born Paul Emil Breitenfeld. Musical genius. Composer of the jazz classic "Take Five". The song is the waltz "Emily" by Johnny Mandell (from the film "The Americanisation of Emily) performed at the Monterey Jazz festival in 1975. He played a Selmer Super Balanced Action Alto, a Gregory 4a-18m mouthpiece, and Rico 3-1/2 reeds and is seen here wearing "the suit". He stays fairly close to the lovely melody for the first 32 bars, and then off he goes. The effortlessness with which he spins beautiful melodic improvised lines is depressing (How did he do that?!!). This was the result of genius. He had total command of his instrument, having the ability to play far in to the altissimo register long before it became a studied discipline for the saxophone. And he just stands there, moving little more than his long fingers. No jumping, dancing, swaying, or crouching, just beautiful, swinging music. Note that he is quoting the waltz "Would You" at 2:35. He appears pleased with the result at 2:43. This is what brilliance sounds like.
