Federalism, Freedom and the Constitution
www.tenthamendmentcenter.com Anyone who desires a constitutionally limited federal government should remember and celebrate that its limitations would necessarily cut both ways. Because if federal policy actually adhered to the letter of the Constitution, no single ideological camp could wield sufficient power to impose a set of beliefs on the entire country. Which was exactly the point of our federalist system, and of the 10th Amendment. Beyond specific, enumerated federal powers, an infinite number of issues were intentionally left to the authority of the people through their state governments. And it is to the states that liberals, conservatives, and even libertarians must address all questions extending beyond the constitutional purview of federal authority. Restoring Fiscal Federalism
As statehouses open for the 2011 session, happy days are not here again. Rather, for most states harsh fiscal reality must be faced. Many question if the fundamental structure of American politics is broken and if this structure will continue to force states and citizens toward a downward spiral of massive, ever-increasing debt. This panel discusses the institutions in place that allow for state spending and the growth of government to continue, including these questions: * What institutions are in place that increase state spending and debts? * What are the consequences of a bailout by the federal government for states? * What are potential solutions states can implement in 2011? Featuring: Mike Jerman, Legislative Director for Congressman Jason Chaffetz, Utah's 3rd District. Previously he was Vice President of the Utah Taxpayer's Association, a group that advocates for lower taxes, efficient government spending, and sound tax policy at the state and local level in Utah. When a draft of the United States Constitution was approved by the Constitutional Convention in September of 1787, and sent to the states for ratification by the people, many delegates to the ratifying conventions were deeply concerned about what impact the newly envisioned national government would have on the states that comprised the union. Since that time, the role and power of the federal government have increased substantially, while the role and power of several states have diminished in comparison. The panel will discuss current Supreme Court federalism jurisprudence, offer their predictions on the direction the Roberts' court is likely to take, and debate the proper balance between federal and state power. Beyond the international recognition of what Benedict Anderson called an imagined community, what are the desirable features of the nation under construction, and what, if any, is the appropriate role of the international community in designing, financing, and building them? How should the government be chosen, and powers separated between branches, allocated between the center and the regions, or shared by competing ethnic or religious groups? What are the necessary tools of conflict resolution? How critical is the role of women? Is religion a divisive or unifying force? Government Wars : Episode 1 : The Federalists vs. The Anti-Federalists
***WATCH IN HIGH QUALITY*** This was a project me and my two friends made for our gov class. It was strictly for fun (with a little bit of education mixed in) so I don't care how stupid you think it is, we enjoyed making it and our teacher enjoyed watching it. lsmaker was not working when this was going into production so just the sounds were added. I will go back and redo the effects if i can get the program to work I used Power Director 7 to create the opening titles. Everything else was done on WMM including video editing, audio editing, all the other titles, and sound effects it took about 7 1/2 hours (including time we wrote the whole thing, choreographed, filmed, edited, layered the audio, and went to lunch) I'll let you know what our grade was when we get it ;-) Rate and comment!! **note** the clip at the end got messed up during production so it won't play, the audio will play though also, the opening song not listed in the credits is Lament for Pvt. Jenkins from the Halo 1 soundtrack the wig was supposed to look crappy. it is an old beanie, balled up duct tape and stuffing from a pillow.
