Hammer vs Feather - Physics on the Moon: Galileo and Apollo 15
Courtesy: NASA At the end of the last Apollo 15 moon walk, Commander David Scott (pictured above) performed a live demonstration for the television cameras. He held out a geologic hammer and a feather and dropped them at the same time. Because they were essentially in a vacuum, there was no air resistance and the feather fell at the same rate as the hammer, as Galileo had concluded hundreds of years before - all objects released together fall at the same rate regardless of mass. Mission Controller Joe Allen described the demonstration in the "Apollo 15 Preliminary Science Report": During the final minutes of the third extravehicular activity, a short demonstration experiment was conducted. A heavy object (a 1.32-kg aluminum geological hammer) and a light object (a 0.03-kg falcon feather) were released simultaneously from approximately the same height (approximately 1.6 m) and were allowed to fall to the surface. Within the accuracy of the simultaneous release, the objects were observed to undergo the same acceleration and strike the lunar surface simultaneously, which was a result predicted by well-established theory, but a result nonetheless reassuring considering both the number of viewers that witnessed the experiment and the fact that the homeward journey was based critically on the validity of the particular theory being tested. Today we look at making a Feather Stick for fire lighting. Feather sticks help us in numerous ways; if your a little low on tinder making a feather-sticks allows you to turn what would otherwise be larger fuel into a tinder allowing you to start your fire. It's also a handy skill to know if it has been raining a lot and a lot of the dead wood is wet (on the outside) feathersticking allows you to access the dry inner wood and can provide the tinder, kindling & fuel to get your fire started. It is a skill worth practicing and can be enjoyable to do.

Union Pacific's Feather River Route
In 1982, the Western Pacific system, including the Feather River Canyon route, was purchased by the Union Pacific. Improvements began immediately to facilitate increased traffic. A brief 9 years later, Pentrex set out to capture the variety and volume of trains now flowing over this famous pass across California's scenic Sierra Nevadas. Step back to 1991 to watch as Union Pacific sends doublestack and intermodal trains through the Canyon's challenging terrain. Unit grain trains, steel trains, and others led by Dash 8-40CWs, Dash 8-40Cs and SD40-2s, wind their way past the vertical cliffs that rise from the track bed. All the well-known landmarks are featured here: Keddie Wye, Williams Loop, James, Clio Trestle, Pulga, and others. Plus, 20 minutes of bonus footage takes you trackside to witness the rerailment of cars after a derailment at Pulga in 1984. The Amazing Feather River Railroads-see the Seven Railroad Wonders of the World!
One of great railroad routes in the world. This film was done in 2009, one of the last busy years for this route. That's because the Union Pacific Railroad made the Donner Pass tunnel larger so it would accomodate the container trains and now many of those trains go over Donner Pass, not down the Feather River. You can still see trains there, such as coal and grain and manifests, but not the heavy traffic you'll see in this program. Thanks for enjoying it!

First Feather like it is from the Nujabes track, and then I just reharmonized it a little bit, I'm going to be honest and say I can't stop bobbing my head to it the way I play it at 1:08 because it sounds like a breakdown and the drumbeat is playing in my head, haha I love it. Then after Feather I go into one of my previous melodies, Love's End Recollection, because a hip hop producer emailed me about wanting to sample it but he also wanted a bridge so I thought I'd show you guys, comments and constructive criticism always welcome! I have to say this reharmonized part is one of my favorite things to play on the piano, ever. This may sound emo or something, but seriously, when I play this reharmonized version I feel so much emotion, it sounds so... how to describe it... utterly hopeful?
