For the Estonians, the collapse of the Soviet Union brought the freedom they had longed for for so many years. By joining the European Union and introducing the common currency the Euro, Estonia has shown its deep commitment to the West and relations with Russia remain tense.Estonia introduced the Euro in 2011. A difficult decision because the Estonian Krone, reintroduced in 1992, was a symbol of independence from the Soviet Union. The Estonians and their Baltic neighbors in Lithuania and Latvia place great hopes in their Western-oriented policies. They see the development of democracy and human rights as an obstacle to Russian efforts to dominate the Baltic region. The war in Georgia reawakened old fears. When Estonia's IT infrastructure came under attack, many Estonians were quick to accuse the Kremlin of manipulating a cyber war. The attack was in fact launched by a group of amateurs and Russian nationalists.

Country clean-up project "Lets Do It 2008" / Teeme Ära 2008
Campaign "Let's Do It!" - a grassroot initiative to clean up the country from illegal waste in just one day. There was over 10 000 tons of illegal waste lying around all over Estonia and it was an outrageous plan -- to clean it all up on one day! On May 3, 2008 with help of 50 000 volunteers more than 10 000 tons of garbage gathered and Estonia was cleaned up from illegal waste. The results of the action in Estonia: • 22,5 million euros worth of work was done with the cost of 0.5 million euros; • The State Forest Management Centre states: since 2008, waste dumping problem has decreased 75%; • 10 000 tons of garbage collected from the nature and public areas, put into proper waste handling process; • 40% of the garbage recycled - a record in Estonia. Estonians have been trying for decades to sell their products directly to consumer and avoid Intermediaries. But because of the corruption on a bigger level it has been impossible. People have been trying to point out that seller´s on a market are cheating them- they are selling berries from different countries and claiming that its origin is Finland and also they are selling berries with litres ( but it should be gramms or kilogramms). They are exporting berries from the Baltic´s, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Ukraine etc- and they are claiming that all the berries are from Finland.
