Sonic Generations: City Escape Act 2
I'm not sure how to describe this one aside from comparing it to it's original version, so I guess I'll start from the positives and work my way down. For starters, being able to play this level in glorious HD is a gift from the heavens. Aside from a few frame-rate hicups every now and then due to too many things going on at once, the level looks and feels very nice. I also like the remix of Escape from the City for Act 2, which just has a stronger feeling to it than it's Sonic Adventure 2 counterpart. Very much improved in my mind, but I know there are those who disagree. The feeling isn't quite perfect though, as we soon see by diving into the stage. In Sonic Adventure 2, a large part of earning good scores and ranks involving performing various actions while in the stages, such as doing tricks on Jump Panels or hitting as many enemies as possible between start and finish. There was a higher emphasis on exploration through a stage than actually blazing through it, which becomes a very notable difference between then and now. In Sonic Generations, you can complete a level without dying and you're almost always guaranteed to get an S rank. This element encourages exploration as well, but takes away from the need to as your only real goal is the giant ring at the end of the stage. It's actually faster and thus more beneficial to simply skip trick segments to improve your speed by the end of the stage, even though they made "short-cuts" (not actually shorter) on certain ...
Sonic Generations: City Escape Act 1
After becoming a hero of epic proportions defeating the God of Destruction named Perfect Chaos, the humans of the world immediately turn on Sonic and start declaring that he is a thief who stole a Chaos Emerald from a high-security bank. All of a sudden Sonic's adoring fans have turned on him and he must resort to whatever methods necessary to clear his name and stop Dr. Eggman and his dastardly trio of terror. City Escape was the first level of Sonic Adventure 2 (if you were playing the Hero-Side Story) and as such it served as a tutorial level of sorts, allowing the player to become accustomed to the game's physics and teaching them the general rules of what Sonic can do to get from A to B. The biggest and most notable thing added in Sonic Adventure 2 was grinding, which has become a very iconic part of Sonic's games from then on. Unfortunately, as we are experiencing Act 1 currently, Sonic has yet to fully master the art of grinding and will have to make due with riding the rail in a ball. And this next paragraph is probably going to make a lot of people mad. I hate this level. Don't get me wrong, Sonic Adventure 2 is one of the better Sonic games in the entire franchise, but Sonic Generations' take on both acts of City Escape feels just wrong. All of the levels up until now, there's usually at least one path that you can memorise and eventually traverse without stopping moving once. Raphael Lemkin born on June 24, 1900 was a Polish lawyer of Jewish descent. Before World War II, Lemkin studied the Armenian Genocide in depth and campaigned in the League of Nations to ban what he called "barbarity" and "vandalism". He is best known for his work against genocide, a word he coined in 1943 from the root words genos (Greek for family, tribe or race) and -cide (Latin for killing). He first used the word in print in Axis Rule in Occupied Europe: Laws of Occupation - Analysis of Government - Proposals for Redress (1944). Lemkin was born Rafał Lemkin in the village of Bezwodne in Imperial Russia, now the Vawkavysk district of Belarus. Not much is known of Lemkin's early life.
