Altaeros Energies - Airborne Wind Turbine Prototype 2012

The scale prototype harnessed strong winds up to 350 feet high to produce over twice the power of traditional wind turbines. The prototype was tested in Limestone Maine by Altaeros Energies, a wind energy company formed out of MIT. The Airborne Wind Turbine uses a helium-filled, inflatable shell to ascend to higher altitudes where winds are more consistent and over five times stronger than those reached by traditional tower-mounted turbines. The automated lifting technology is adapted from aerostats, industrial cousins of passenger blimps that for decades have lifted heavy communications and radar equipment into the air for long periods of time. Altaeros is developing its first product to reduce energy costs by up to 65 percent by displacing expensive fuel used to power diesel generators at remote industrial, military, and village sites. Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory scientists have developed a way to generate power using harmless viruses that convert mechanical energy into electricity. The milestone could lead to tiny devices that harvest electrical energy from the vibrations of everyday tasks. The first part of the video shows how Berkeley Lab scientists harness the piezoelectric properties of the virus to convert the force of a finger tap into electricity. The second part reveals the "viral-electric" generators in action, first by pressing only one of the generators, then by pressing two at the same time, which produces more current. If you use solar power via Fresnell lenses to heat the hot water bath you can convert this heat energy into mechanical motion energy and then use a generator to generate 120 Volts 60 Hz AC or 230 Volts 50 Hz AC power. Too bad the oil industry killed this invention also as it did also kill the electric cars ! In this report it is said, that 1 KWatts would require 600 US$ investment for the engine and that it is cheaper than PV and Nuclear power and this was in the 1970s. With todays alloy technology this price could be dropped dramatically and this would be a very cost effective technology. Also Nickel and Titan metals are not rare metals and it would be cheap to manufature without much maintainance... but Big Oil killed this technology long ago... What a shame... ! Where Does The Sun Get Its Energy?
The sun has been producing light for about five billion years but where does all its energy come from? The most common idea is that the sun is burning gas - like a giant fireball in the sky. If this were true, the sun would have gone out long ago. So how is the sun actually fuelling itself? It is converting its own mass into energy. By combining protons (the nucleus of hydrogen) into helium, it squeezes some mass into energy - 4.3 billion kg per second. It is Einstein's famous E=mc^2 which gives us the quantitative relationship between mass and energy, where c is the speed of light.

www.euronews.net In Dartmouth, in the UK, technicians are working on a sort of "aquatic bicycle pump" which could be the future of renewable energy. In tests, the Searaser has produced enough energy to power a light bulb, but this is only a prototype and the finished Searaser will be around 13 times bigger than this. Alvin Smith, the inventor of Searaser said: "It is really only a bicycle pump with a float on it. As this pump goes up and down it sucks sea water and pumps sea water out, purely through the action of the waves." He came up with the idea about 10 years ago while playing with an inflatable ball in a swimming pool. Searaser pumps seawater using a vertical piston between two buoys - one on the surface of the water, the other suspended underwater and tethered to a weight on the seabed. Alvin Smith explained: "You have got the Searaser in the water that will be operated by the waves and swell, anything from half a metre swell or more it will work. You pump it to a tank or reservoirs then you can hydro on demand electricity through your turbine." As the ocean swell moves the buoys up and down, the piston works like a pump, sending seawater through a pipe to an onshore turbine to produce electricity.or to a coastal storage reservoir. It can then be released through a generator as required. The ideal site for the machines is in water about 25m deep near a cliff face.
