Elbert's Happy Ever After
Elbert arrived with us in August of 2008, morbidly obese and suffering from horrible neglect. His hooves, which had never been trimmed though Elbert was already 6 years old when he came here, were curling around the backs of his legs. He had been crawling on his knees for several years, too weak from the burden of his massive weight to be able to stand. His knees still bear the scars/callouses from his time before finding us. They will never be normal, Elbert will never be totally pain free but he is a living testament to the power of the pig, ever cheerful, always willing to take one more step for me in his therapy program. Today, one short year after his arrival, Elbert has his life back! He is a bright, active and healthy pig that is finally at his proper weight. He has lost approximately 100lbs, which is a remarkable feat for anyone. Elbert wanted to get better, or this success story would never have been possible. If you have a pig that is obese, know that you can have the same success with your pig that Elbert has had. Good veterinary care, exercise and a diet specifically formulated for pet pigs is crucial to their success. Just as with people, there are no shortcuts to a healthy weight. The pig has to burn more calories than he consumes, so exercise is a must, though gentle walking is fine. Good food is critical. Elbert eats Mazuri Elder formula pot bellied pig food. It gives him the vitamin/mineral balance he needs, plus healthy fiber amounts that help him feel ...

Emily Elbert - Michelangelo
(lyrics at bottom) ciao from my hotel room in florence, italy! here's a new song i wrote about the great artist and brilliant mind, michelangelo buonarroti. i was going to wait until i had a better quality setup, but i went to see the David this morning and am feeling really inspired by michelangelo's spirit around the city. so, here it is - i hope you enjoy it! :) videos from the european tour to follow...spain, you're next! thanks so much for listening. love, emily Like David with his sling So I will with my drill Transform this solid stone By my hammer and my will Find the figure trapped in earth Under the stigma and the sediment I'll prove there's poetry within Beneath my father and the Bible Knew my mind was built for battle With my mother's milk of marble Feel it boiling in my blood I see Madonna on the stairs The way she struggles with her destiny I'll hide in carvings on my wall With all pride cast aside I can truly say I tried To convey what I have studied Bring the truth I've seen to light For the beauty of the body I am broken and I'm bound I am burned and I am blinded By the candles in my crown But oh, someday they'll know Michelangelo There's divinity in science Our skeletons are sacred Set a fire to my Florence You can burn but can't erase it In the folds of Mary's robe And in her hands, my heart is aching I cut my name into the cloth With all pride cast aside I can truly say I tried To convey what I have studied Bring the truth I've seen to light For the ...
Emily Elbert - Thinking Hybrid; Redirected
A song I wrote in '07 about working to create positive change, and starting with yourself. Thanks for listening. www.myspace.com cdbaby.com www.emilyelbert.com (Thanks to Chris Oroza for filming!) lyrics It's just more of the same changes Headphones can only take me so far away This is the point where I reassess my arrangements It's time to revert to what needs to be saved Cause I've spent too long with my shoes on Let myself start to play it safe And my reactions became the factions of a misdirected race Speaking of race, I'm compelled to run Off the charts of what's expected Once again, I will channel the sun Thinking hybrid; redirected To finding melodies in the white noise Secret passageways and doors Trace the trails of forgotten flying creatures I will never, never again ignore Speaking of creatures, I'm compelled to fly Off the charts of what's expected Once again, I will channel the sky Thinking hybrid; redirected A dive into the rain is an awakening; a sudden gust of wind So as the storm brings forth the green progression I too, will grow again I am aware, awake, and able I am digging in living land Balanced, yet affected Perpetual I climb Above all, I am connected Thinking hybrid; redirected

Donnie Elbert Someone Made You For Me
I've been informed that the author of this story on Donnie is the Great gentelman "Mike Boone" and I had forgot to thank him My apoligies Mike. GOOD STUFF THANK YOU. Bill Kenney (Ink Spots)... Little Joe Cook (The Thrillers)... Smokey Robinson (the Miracles)... and Eddie Kendrick (the Temptations): these are perhaps a few of the great many falsetto singers of our time. There is an artist that stands out in my musical mind, which, in my opinion, remains forgotten in the world of R&B music; it is the one and only Mr. Donnie Elbert. Donnie Elbert was born on May 25, 1935, in New Orleans, La. His family moved to Buffalo, NY when he was just barely 3 years of age. His first interest in music came when his uncle bought him his first guitar and later a phonograph. As a teen his mother would buy him a piano and Donnie began o take lessons. While listening to a pile of 45 records that this uncle bought for him, featuring such artists as Little Willie John and Jimmy Reed, he found the singer that influenced him most was Clyde McPhatter of the Drifters. At the age of 20 in 1955,Donnie formed his first ?doo-wop? group called the Vibraharps. The group released a few singles, but to no real success. Two years later, he left the Vibraharps because of creative differences and altercations within the group. In 1957, Donnie recorded his first successful song on the Deluxe label entitled ?What Can I Do?? with the song hitting number 13 on the R&B charts and number 61 on the pop charts ...

10 year olds- Brooklyn Elbert and Kassidy King of Avery and The Calico Hearts perform a duet to "How Does She Yodel" in which they both show off their country twang, natural break abilities, and harmonizing yodeling skills. Brought the house down (second year in a row). Trivia fact: This is Kassidy's 4th year to sing this song at a Cactus Christmas show. Great way to see both of these girls, who usually sing back up to Avery (Winter), featured prominently. The girls are students of Terri Caldwell Music under the direction of Cami Caldwell. Intro by Terri Caldwell. Video by Johnny Busby. Taken at the Cactus Kids Christmas show December 2011 at the Cactus Theater in Lubbock, Texas.

DONNIE ELBERT ~♫~ THIS OLD HEART OF MINE (IS WEAK FOR YOU) ~♫~ BABY BOLLOX MAGIC REMIX
DONNIE ELBERT - THIS OLD HEART OF MINE (IS WEAK FORYOU) (1972) - BABY BOLLOX MAGIC REMIX. Northern Soul legend DONNIE ELBERT was born 25th May 1935 in New Orleans, USA His family moved to Buffalo, New York's east side, three years later. In 1955 Elbert co-founded a doo-wop group called the Vibraharps with friend Danny Cannon, serving as its guitarist, songwriter and arranger - largely relegating himself to background vocals. After making his recorded debut on their single "Walk Beside Me," Elbert left the Vibraharps in 1957 and turned to a solo career, recording a demo session that earned him a contract with the King label's Deluxe imprint; for his Deluxe debut "What Can I Do" and "Believe It or Not". Arguably Elbert's finest early single was his third Deluxe effort, "Have I Sinned". In 1958 he released five singles on Deluxe. "Let's Do the Stroll," "My Confession of Love," "I Want to Be Loved But Only by You," "I Want to Be Near You" and "Just a Little Bit of Lovin'" In 1959 he signed with Red Top to cut "Someday (You'll Want Me to Want You)." He then signed with Vee-Jay for "Will You Ever Be Mine". After two more releases with Vee-Jay "Half as Old" and "I've Loved You, Baby", Elbert went to various labels, including Jalynne - "Mommie's Gone", P&L - "Nobody Knows", Parkway - "Baby Cakes", Cub - "Love Stew" and Checker -"Just a Cotton-Pickin' Minute". The emergence of the Motown Sound deeply impressed Elbert and he began modeling his music in its style. Elbert played all ...
Donnie Elbert - Run Little Girl
PLEASE NOTE: I divided my uploads between multiple channels, Bookmark this link in your browser for instant access to an index with links to all of John1948's oldies classics. LINK: tinyurl.com Donnie Elbert (May 25, 1936 — January 26, 1989) was an American soul singer who had a prolific career from the mid 1950s to the late 1970s. His US hits included "Where Did Our Love Go?" (1972), and his reputation as a Northern soul artist in the UK was secured by "A Little Piece of Leather", a performance highlighting his powerful falsetto voice. Elbert was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, but when aged three his family relocated to Buffalo, New York. He learned to play guitar and piano as a child, and in 1955 formed a doo-wop group, the Vibraharps, with friend Danny Cannon. Elbert acted as the group's guitarist, songwriter, arranger, and background vocalist, making his recording debut on their single "Walk Beside Me". He left the group in 1957 for a solo career, and recorded a demonstration record that earned him a recording contract with the King label's DeLuxe subsidiary. His solo debut "What Can I Do?" reached #12 in the US R&B chart, and he followed it up with the less successful "Believe It or Not" and "Have I Sinned?", which became a regional hit in Pittsburgh. He continued to release singles on DeLuxe, but with little commercial success, and also played New York's Apollo Theater and toured the chitlin' circuit of African-American owned nightclubs. After completing an album ...
Emily Elbert - Michelangelo (feat. Duncan Wickel)
A song I wrote about Michelangelo Buonarroti. It was originally inspired by a really great Renaissance art history course I took in college (with Ross Bresler! the man!), whose lectures led me to a massive, inspired, library excursion, and ultimately, this piece. Michelangelo led such an interesting life and left behind such an incredible body of work...so it was a very cool experience to write this tune. My dear friend Duncan Wickel joins me on the fiddle - and you can check out more of his music here: www.duncanwickel.com He's brilliant! :) Also thanks to the great Nate Barsanti for filming.
