Jet-injected drugs may mean the end of needles

Getting a shot at the doctor's office may become less painful in the not-too-distant future. MIT researchers have engineered a device that delivers a tiny, high-pressure jet of medicine through the skin without the use of a hypodermic needle. The device can be programmed to deliver a range of doses to various depths — an improvement over similar jet-injection systems that are now commercially available. World's Scariest Drug (Documentary Exclusive)

VICE's Ryan Duffy went to Colombia to check out a strange and powerful drug called Scopolamine, also known as "The Devil's Breath." It's a substance so intense that it renders a person incapable of exercising free will. The first few days in the country were a harrowing montage of freaked-out dealers and unimaginable horror stories about Scopolamine. After meeting only a few people with firsthand experience, the story took a far darker turn than we ever could have imagined. Anonymous 'OpCannabis' Vs War On Drugs

Via The Raw Story: "Members of the hacking collective [Anonymous], who were at the epicenter of planning and promoting "Occupy Wall Street" last year, announced earlier this month that April 20, 2012 would mark the beginning of an official "Anonymous" push-back against America's drug laws. Speaking to Raw Story this week, a person claiming to be a member of "Anonymous," who watched an attack on Sony's website from behind the scenes but did not participate, claimed responsibility for the group's new "OpCannabis" campaign, explaining that the operation is determined to throw the collective's weight behind drug reform...".* Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, and Ben Mankiewicz discuss on The Young Turks. The Real Breaking Bad: How the Drug War Creates Collateral Damage

88-year-old Bob Wallace, and his 85-year-old girlfriend, Marjorie Ottenberg fell in love 35 years ago backpacking to the tops of the highest peaks in the world. Wallace is a Stanford educated engineer and Ottenberg is a former chemist and decades ago they came up with a water purification product for backpackers like themselves called Polar Pure out of their garage in Saratoga, Calif. "For an old guy with nothing else to do, this is something that keeps us occupied," says Wallace. Today, Wallace and Ottenberg are fighting the Drug Enforcement Administration and state officials to continue to operate their business. Why? The DEA says that drug dealers are using their product to make methamphetamine. The DEA says meth heads are interested in Polar Pure's key ingredient, iodine crystals. In 2007 the DEA reclassified iodine as a controlled substance and named Polar Pure in particular as a product that was of concern to the DEA. The DEA told Wallace and Ottenberg, they could continue to operate their business but they would have to pay a $1200 regulatory fee, register with the state and feds, report any suspicious activity and keep track of each and ever person who bought a bottle of their product. Bob says that the overhead alone would be too much to pass onto customers. "So that's why I didn't bother with their rules, because I would be out of business if I followed their regulations," says Wallace. The same went for camping stores and online outlets that stocked Polar Pure ...

Mexican drug gangs' public relations campaign

From guns to the media, Mexican drug cartels have turned to new and unusual tactics to intimidate their rivals. Videos of drug-related massacres have been sent to news networks and posted online. The gangs have also tried to win support through public displays of strength. But as Al Jazeera's Rachel Levin reports, people in the southern city of Cuernavaca are not impressed by the cartels' campaigns.

Mexico's Drug War

The Mexican Drug War is an ongoing armed conflict taking place among rival drug cartels fighting each other for regional control, and Mexican government forces seeking to combat drug trafficking. However, the government's principal goal has been to put down the drug-related violence that was raging between different rival drug cartels in Mexico before any military intervention was made.[27] In addition, the Mexican government has claimed that their primary focus is on dismantling the powerful drug cartels, rather than on drug trafficking prevention, which is left to US functionaries. Although Mexican drug cartels, or drug trafficking organizations, have existed for several decades, they have become more powerful since the demise of Colombia's Cali and Medellín cartels in the 1990s. Mexican drug cartels now dominate the wholesale illicit drug market in the United States.[31] Arrests of key cartel leaders, particularly in the Tijuana and Gulf cartels, have led to increasing drug violence as cartels fight for control of the trafficking routes into the United States. The US Department of Justice estimates that wholesale earnings from illicit drug sales range from $13.6 billion to $48.4 billion annually. Given its geographic location, Mexico has long been used as a staging and transshipment point for narcotics, illegal immigrants and contraband destined for US markets from Mexico, South America and elsewhere. During the 1980s and early 1990s, Colombia's Pablo Escobar was the ...

Russell Brand Tells MPs Drug Addiction Should Be Treated As Illness

Comedian Russell Brand has told MPs on the Home Affairs Select Committee addiction should be treated as an illness instead of a crime. The 36-year-old who said he had beaten a heroin addiction which saw him arrested a dozen times, blamed his drug problems on emotional and psychological difficulties. Society should not "discard people, write them off on methadone and leave them on the sidelines" and should exercise more "love and compassion", he argued.

FDA Promotes Drug That Kills You One Cell At a Time!

Little do people realize, when they consult their doctor, that one of the drugs s/he is most likely to recommend to them literally kills you one cell at a time. These are the popular cholesterol-reducing drugs known as statins. Not only are they already widely prescribed for the elderly, but now it is being suggested that everyone over 50 should be taking them to reap the benefits, however small. Meanwhile, the FDA is debating whether pharmaceuticals should be marketed to healthy people. This is the result of a mafia-like system set up to enrich the wealthiest, most parasitic beings of all: the bigwigs at the top of Big Pharma. Before popping a single statin in your mouth, do yourself a favor and read James B Yoseph and Hannah Yoseph, MD's book 'How Statins Really Lower Cholesterol and Kill You One Cell at a Time'. And if you want to do many people a favor, give a copy to your doctor! James and Hannah will be joining me on the radio to expose the truth about statins and answer all your questions on may 24, 2012 from 2:00-3:00 pm EST. Ending the Global Drug War: Voices from the Front Lines

"Ever since the War on Drugs, everything has hit the fan," says Romesh Bhattacharji, former Narcotics Commissioner of India. Rather than continue the unnecessary and costly drug war, Bhattacharji advises the United States to simply "Relax, take it easy, [and] tolerate." Last month, at the Cato Institute's "Ending the Global War on Drugs" conference, Bhattacharji's sentiments were echoed by ex-drug czars, cops, politicians, intellectuals, liberal and conservative journalists, and even the former President of Brazil. MK Occupy Minnesota: Drugs & the DRE Program at Peavey Plaza

Video documentation by local activists and independent media shows that police officers and county deputies from across Minnesota have been picking up young people near Peavey Plaza for a training program to recognize drug-impaired drivers. Multiple participants say officers gave them illicit drugs and provided other incentives to take the drugs. The Occupy movement, present at Peavey Plaza since April 7th, appears to be targeted as impaired people are dropped off at the Plaza, and others say they've been rewarded for offering to snitch on the movement. ~ Got a couple coins? Support our media expenses at roguemedia.org Local independent media activists and members of Communities United Against Police Brutality began investigating police conduct around the Plaza after witnessing police dropping off impaired people at the plaza and hearing rumors that they were offering people drugs. We videotaped police conduct and interviewed participants, learning some very disturbing information about the DRE program. Officers stated on record the DRE program, run by the Minnesota State Patrol, has no Institutional Review Board or independent oversight. They agreed no ambulances or EMTs were on site at the Richfield MnDOT facility near the airport where most subjects were taken. Multiple times, participants left Peavey Plaza sober, returned intoxicated, and said they'd been given free drugs by law enforcement. We documented on more than one occasion, someone being told they were sober ...
