Skateboarding Dog
Tillman the skateboarding bulldog from the iphone commercial. All clips are from January 2007. Tillman was a little over a year old at the time. A little history of this first video. I Filmed the video using a just purchased Panasonic Lumix TZ1. I was bicycling through Venice Beach California when I came upon the skateboarding dog. Originally the first video had the soundtrack "Giving In" by linkin Park. Once the video appeared in iphone commercials I removed the video from youtube because of the attention it was getting and I had no rights to use the song. As time approached for Apple's release of the iphone with youtube, youtube contacted me and requested I reinstate the video without the soundtrack. Youtube wanted users to be able to view the skateboarding dog in the store and after purchasing their iphone. Unfortunately youtube gave me only a few hours to re-edited video before the iphone release. The original background sound on most of the clips was ruined by hysterical laughter from a woman watching Tillman so I cut and pasted sound in from other parts of the video to cover the laughter. That's why some claim they hear the word eskimo over and over-lol. When the original video with the Linkin Park soundtrack was selected it had around 15000 views.

This video has had many positive comments - thanks to all of you. Some people though are worried for the dogs - were they forced and did they hurt themselves on the forks? Firstly the dogs loved it - they are best friends and really like getting all the attention. We practiced with the cutlery in advance, and both dogs very quickly figured it out. Besides the "waitress" kept on talking to them and encouraging them. They are very well behaved, and know when to sit still, take it slow and wait. This video was shot in one take, no cuts or editing - and both dogs had a wonderful time..The hand coordination was not preplanned - since everything was up to the dogs - but we both intuitively acted on the feeling of the dogs movement, plus we could hear from the "waitresses" comments, what the dogs were doing. My family bottle fed the baby, named Theen until he was eating grass. Several months later he's very socialized with people, our black lab, and our cats. He is free to wander if he likes and we've seen him with several herds of whitetail and axis deer. Apparently he fits in just fine with them. He frequently comes back to the house to eat some catfood and play with our dog, Buddy. He doesn't care much for deer corn. Ellen Degeneres showed this video on her show and website on January 22, 2010! Anderson Cooper 360 showed the video on March 30, 2010! This was on the Bonnie Hunt show on March 31, 2010! UPDATE 25 April 2012: Because many people ask, Gracie is doing well these days. She is getting ready to turn nine and moves a lot slower, but she is still a good dog and a great friend. I'm uploading this for family. This was the day I came back from Kandahar in Sept. 2005. Life has changed since then. But Gracie is still a good dog. UPDATE: (11-13-2009) - This is crazy. I posted this years ago along with three other clips of my wife in Haiti for my parents to see (Jen does medical missions in Haiti and runs a clinic in Cap Haitien). They still have like 400 hits a piece. This clip had like 30000 hits two days ago. I'm not quite sure where this attention is all coming from. [EDIT: It appears to have started at Mentalfloss.com] Oh, and it was filmed by my wife Jen in our front yard in Springfield, VA.. Gracie is six now. She's asleep at my feet as I'm typing this.
