Dog Training Tutorial - DISTRACTIONS (Part 1)
Working around distractions is easier to do for some dogs than others. The key to training a dog to do anything anywhere is all about generalizing behaviors and proofing with distractions. This is the first episode in a series of videos on building focus around distractions. While it may seem like the exercise shown here is quite simple, it must not be underestimated. Having a solid foundation and starting small is often overlooked in dog training. Just like building a big structure, having a solid stable base is critical to avoid failures later on. Follow along with us in this series as we gradually raise the bar and set our dogs up to develop reliable and outstanding focus.

Stop puppies biting- clicker dog training
This video is on how to stop your puppy biting you. The technique of clicking the absence of biting was shown to me by my mentor Kyle Rayon, who is one of the most amazing and innovative trainers, though she is very modest! Dogs use their mouths to interact with their environment, so it is normal for a puppy to want to bite your hands or clothes. However in our society it is highly inappropriate. To train a puppy to stop using their mouth when interacting with humans is simple. All you have to do is set up training scenarios where your puppy would normally start biting and train an alternate response- calmly sitting, lying down, standing, or walking with a closed mouth. First you would start with the least arousing game- so simply just a reaching hand. As you reach, click or say "yes" and then feed a treat. As the puppy is successful you can progress to more and more arousing stimulus. You should not allow your dog to be man handled or petted roughly. Petting should not only be rewarding for the human but for the dog as well. However at some point in your dogs life, someone might get to your dog before you can stop them and be overly rough. You can prepare your dog for these situations by playing training games. But when these situations do occur in real life, respect your dog, and get them out of the stressful situation. Do practice handling exercises for grooming as well as vet visits regularly... Tips- These exercises should only be done by ADULTS. As children can ...

Guard dog Attack training German Shepherd/Malinois k9-1.com
Personal protection attack dog training video of a 7 month old German Shepherd/ Belgian Malinois mix puppy. Although this dog isn't old enough to do real guard dog work it is being prepared to do real protection work... sort of like sending a child to karate class. He will finish guard dog training at about 18 months old. Quality protection dog training takes patience, respect, and knowledge. If a dog is trained with yelling and intimidation...how do you expect them to do protection work on a yelling man? Beware of people who sell sport dogs (aka schutzhund trained dogs) as "personal protection dogs. Sport dogs are trained to look pretty doing specific protection routines on a training field and may be confused in a real situation when there is not a bite sleeve or protection suit to bite. Also these types of protection dogs are trained to take stick hits instead of avoiding them and attcking that arm. This is because you can't hold the stick with an arm within sleeve and schutzhund is a sport that is meant to prove a dogs bravery and show they are worthy of breeding, therefore they are trained to take stick hits that are always used with a stick that won't really hurt the dog and are always hit on safe spots of the body. This is setting the dog up for failer when they must fight a person for real that is planning on hitting them in the head with an iron bar. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the dog training video of Matrix... another client dog trained by K9-1 Specialized Dog ...

Clicker Dog Training: STOP Leash Pulling!
This is an exercise that supplements the techniques that I have presented on this topic already. It is not by any means a conclusive, end-all solution to stop leash-pulling. However, after having worked through everything else mentioned in my other videos on teaching loose leash walking, I find that a lot of dogs learn very quickly with this approach that they must not pull if they want to continue the walk. It is important to note however, that using food as a reward after every 'roundabout' may cause some dogs to pull just so they can come around for a reward. Using food rewards occasionally should eliminate this problem. Amazing Funny Dog Tricks, Dog Training
This video shows some of the tricks I have been working on recently with Kiko and Splash. Some of the more interesting ones are, teaching Splash to look left and look right, teaching her how to skip, and how to shuffle backwards in a bow. Kiko started offering a tap dancing behavior which I captured, as well as scratching with her back feet. I also taught Kiko to go between Splashes legs as I saw a Boston Terrier do in the movie Hotel for Dogs, and thought it would be very cute to teach. Splash however, looks stressed as you can see, when kiko works too closely around her, because Kiko usually will boss Splash around if she is too close to her. All these tricks were taught using clicker training and no forms of positive punishment (meaning me saying No! or eh eh! Wrong! Or any physical manipulation)

Dog Trainer Saves Dog with CPR
Canyon Crest K9 Training Center owner, Ron Pace, saves the life of a boxer with CPR during a regular training session. During the session, the dog went into a seizure. As he stopped breathing and Lay-ed down Ron handed his assistant his Iphone with the video on and said to capture this so a veterinarian can see what happened. At that point he said to the handler move your hand so I can see if he is breathing and she said he is not. Ron immediately applied CPR. Sugar had stopped breathing for 2 minutes. He finally regained consciousness. Once the dog was resuscitated, the owner took him to the vet. It was later found out Sugar has Cardiomyopathy. We believe it's not just a coincidence that this dog's name happened to be SUGAR and his life was saved. Ron Pace has dedicated himself to training diabetic alert dogs to alert their owners to dangerous blood SUGAR levels.

Handling Shyness- Clicker Dog Training
If you live in the San Diego Area and are interested in adopting Jamie or Beanie, contact: Loving Arms Animal Rescue and Adoption www.lovingpetadoptions.org These exercises are for all dogs, as most dogs do not like to be handled. This video is the first in a series to come... I am sorry about the big block of text at the beginning of the video, but it is because this exercise needs to be taken seriously, as if done wrong you can scare a dog, and a frightened dog will bite, as will any animal that is frightened. If you are worried that your dog is too shy or frightened to work with, you can talk to an animal behaviorist first. Another game you can do is just tossing the dog treats, and feeding the dog his meals by dropping the kibble for the dog following you.

Dog Training Tutorial: Holding Objects & Clean Up!
As requested by many people, in this video I demonstrate the steps in teaching a dog to hold an object by shaping the behavior. Also, you can build on this and teach them to put their toys away in a basket. The trick is to break the task down into smaller components and train each of those independently to success. Realizing that a complex behavior chain such as this can take several training sessions spread out over a period of days allows us to be patient & teach amazing things through positive reinforcement. The best part about this is that we create a dog that enjoys learning, and figures out on his/her own what we are trying to teach.

Capturing Calmness- help for hyper dogs-dog training
This video is a tutorial on how to teach your puppy or dog to be calm. Some dogs need help to learn how to relax. Calmness does not come naturally to some breeds .By reinforcing your dog for being calm, your dog will start to choose calmer behaviors in the future and actually enjoy being calm. Tips for teaching a Default Settle: Don't drop treats if the dog looks up at your hand as you move to give the dog the treat, instead try again later. Don't cue the dog "down". It works better if the dog figures it out on his own and CHOOSES to lay down. Use high value treats like real meat or cheese for such a wonderful behavior.

This is a video on how to train your dog not to surf the counters or in other words put their paws up and eat food and items that are on your counters. Remember to keep in mind that during training, items that your dog likes should NOT be left in reach on counters so that you don't UNDO all the training you have just been doing. As nagging a turkey off the counter WILL train your dog to do it again! At the beginning of the video you will see Tug my new puppy BEFORE I trained him, he would jump up and onto tables to lick them clean. At the end of the video you can see the results of one session that was a couple minutes long. Tips: 1- Make sure the dog NEVER gets the food- it sounds obvious but some dogs are very FAST! 2- If he is struggling to look away from the food, either give him a hint by making an attention noise or take some steps away so he is not as close to the food 3- As he succeeds raise criteria 4- You can start off first with a carrot on the table but the reinforcement is something even better like Chicken 5- Watch my 'leave it' video for more information on teaching the leave it Dog training clicker training manners teaching a dog to not touch food on counters counter surfing stealing food
Shaping Explained- Part 1 of Training Your Dog to Turn on a Light Switch with Clicker
Follow Jessie's actual progress during the first steps learning to turn on a light switch. In under 4 minutes (approx. 45 clicks), she has the main idea. WARNING: If your dog has ever been on an e-collar (electric zaps as punishment), please DO NOT train your dog this way for a live light switch. Their wet noses make contact and cause a small zap. There are other switch adaptors (drop down) that would be suitable for dogs with this background as the dog does not have to interact with the actual switch. I discovered tis when training Lucy, my rescue dog. She had been on an e-collar before we got her and she eagerly trained on the dummy switch. When I tried using the live switch, she touched it once, then ran away in fear and refused to touch it again. PLEASE, please, please do not use E-collars on your dogs. Not only is it punishing to your dog, there is too much unpredictable fallout after you stop using them. Have you considered training your own assistance or service dog? Or trying out a new trick to impress friends? Clicker training is the best way I have found to successfully train almost any dog. I have been asked several times for footage of a dog learning a task or being shaped for the first time so new trainers could see the actual process and know what to expect. So here it is! Lots of repetition. Note she doesn't get clicked for any behavior she offers that I don't want later on such as pawing, stepping on or scratching the switch plate. The only editing was for ...

Dog Training Tutorial- HOUSETRAINING
House-training is often the first thing most dogs need to learn as they become part of a new family. Since this is something I have been getting numerous requests for - I decided to do a video on it. There is some additional information on housetraining (tips) that I did not include in the video which is available on my Facebook page under the discussions section. LINKS --------- FACEBOOK: bit.ly TWITTER: bit.ly WEBSITE: www.trainingpositive.com EMAIL: tab@traningpositive.com ***NOTE*** All this information assumes that the dog in question is in good health and not suffering from any sickness/disease. Sometimes lack of bladder and bowel control is a result of ill health and if you suspect that this might be the case with your dog, please immediately consult your vet to rule out any such possibility. It is also assumed that the dog is not struggling with fear-based elimination. As is often the case with some dogs, the goal in these instances would be to tackle the issue of fear/anxiety in addition to following all the advice given in the video. Unfortunately, the details in these situations are specific and unique to the dog - so the best approach is to contact a professional dog trainer who uses positive reinforcement only, to assess and determine the most appropriate course of action.
