Displaced Somalis pour into Dadaab refugee camps
Thousands of Somali refugees fleeing drought in their home country are continuing to pour into the Dadaab refugee camp in neighbouring Kenya. People have lost their homes, their livestock and their livelihoods. Many are preparing to be at Dadaab for a long time to come. Although Somalia is the worst affected by the drought in the Horn of Africa, some 12 million people across the region are also at risk. Nazanine Moshiri reports from Dadaab in North East Kenya.
Afghan displaced face harsh winter
Nato and Afghan troops are preparing for a major offensive against Taliban strongholds in southern Afghanistan. Ahead of the operation, thousands of civilians have fled their homes near the Marjah area of Helmand province. Many will be going to displacement camps near the capital, Kabul. But as Al Jazeera's David Chater reports, conditions there are dismal. Rations of firewood are scarce as temperatures plummet below zero at night.

A montage of photographs from the United States Digital Archives and Shenandoah National Park depicting life during the "Great Depression." The video details aspects of the "Great Depression" through out the United States including poverty, the "Dust Bowl," and unemployment. The second part of the film documents the relocation of "Mountaineers" in the Shenandoah National Park by the National Park Service and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). The final part of the film illustrates work projects conducted by the CCC in Shenandoah National Park. Displaced Sri Lankans return home
Almost 4000 Sri Lankans are returning to their country after years in refugee camps in southern India. Hundreds of thousands of people were displaced during the conflict between the government and the separatist Tamil Tigers during the country's 25-year civil war. Now, through a voluntary repatriation programme run by the UN refugee agency, UNHCR, some of the previously displaced are returning to Sri Lanka in the hope of a better life. A report commissioned by the government to investigate possible human rights abuses committed during the war will also be handed to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Sunday. Al Jazeera's Minelle Fernandez reports from Mannar.

Partition of India - refugees displaced by the partition
In June 1947, leaders of the Congress Party and the Muslim League agreed that India would be divided along religious lines. Disputes over certain parts of the subcontinent have continued beyond 1947. Control over the province of Kashmir, led to two conflicts between India and Pakistan. In 1971, another conflict broke out when India supported the secession of Bangladesh (East Pakistan) from Pakistan. For many people, particularly those from the Punjab, the social and economic disruption caused by the Partition drove them to leave the subcontinent for Britain. Some had family who served in the British Army and for others, earlier patterns of migration meant that they had relatives already living in Britain. This film clip is from The Changing East India Part 2 and shows a map of India with population data, and various clips showing refugees displaced by the partition. Thisclip is taken from the Imperial War Museum's new online exhibition - 'Through My Eyes: Stories of conflict, belonging and identity.' The site can be accessed on www.throughmyeyes.org.uk. this video is made on 25 march 2009 in Patras,Greece high up from a ferry to ancona, Italy.. it shows migrating kids climbing the fences of the harbour to hide under trucks for getting in the ships to reach on this way Italy. there is no legal way for migrants travelling in Europa. on my way through Patras i saw hundreds of refugees on the roads, in parks,places stations,playgrounds..i saw only one young woman there... we took the occasion to speak with with a group of them and i was very impressed by them !!! imagine to travel without NOTHING !!- how they do !! no bag-pack, sleeping bag,other clothes as those they wear.. they really need our solidarity and help.

Over 100000 Displaced in Sri Lanka
United Nations, New York, 24 April 2009 - UNHCR Representative in Sri Lanka says that over 100000 people are displaced and on the move in Sri Lanka. Out of those people, only 25000 of them have been processed and are in IDP camps. This is in addition to some 80000 other people who are already in camps. Humanitarian agencies on the ground are running over capacity and help is urgently needed. The 29th of October is historic for the Northern Muslims of Sri Lanka - on this day, in 1990, the Tamil Tigers(LTTE) forcibly evicted some 75000 Muslim residents of the Northern districts of Sri Lanka - Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaithivu, Mannar and Vavuniya. Today, the lives of these Muslims, who have been displaced for 20 years, have changed drastically but for better or worse? Twenty years on and hundreds and thousands of Muslim IDPs who were forcefully evicted by the Tamils from the north, continue to languish in Puttalam. Still living in temporary shelters, they speak of their plight, fears and the hope for a better future.
