Experiments to derail trains - World War Two RailRoads & Spectacular Train Crash Documentary
In March 1944 the United States National Defense Resources Committee & Office of Strategic Services performed a number of experiments on the Claiborne-Polk military railroad to help determine the best way to derail trains. The results were presented in the film "Derailment". The film discusses amount of explosive used, technique of making "gaps" in railroad track to overturn train. Uses filmographic techniques such as slow motion, reverse motion, and freeze frame to show effects of "gaps" and explosives on train and results of experiments. Illustrated arrows point to areas of train considered especially relevant to experiment. Narrator explains each type of explosive and reason for variations.

Tornado Derails A Train & the Train Cab View of it all
Railroad surveilance video captures train derailed by a Tornado January 7, 2008 in Havard, IL The tornado moved across the Chicago and Northwestern railroad where it blew 12 railroad freight cars off the track. The train was moving at the time the tornado hit it...so as the main engine stopped...the remaining cars on the track continued along it and slammed into the front part of the train. This caused a few more cars to derail...including one containing hazardous materials that caused the evacuation of the town of Lawrence. Local news article link below Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis said no one was injured when one locomotive and 12 freight cars derailed Monday around 4 pm in Harvard in McHenry County.One tank car, which leaked for hours before being contained Monday night, contained shock fluid, Davis said. Another tank car that ended up on its side contained ethylene oxide, a flammable material widely used to sterilize medical supplies, but a Union Pacific manager on the scene determined that tank was not leaking, Authorities ordered the evacuation of about 500 residents in the nearby unincorporated town of Lawrence because of the potential for a hazardous materials situation, said Capt. David Shepherd with the McHenry County sheriff's office. No injuries were reported, he said.Three other derailed cars on the train headed to Janesville, Wis., from North Lake contained auto parts, and seven more were empty, .Crews prepared Monday night to move the cars away from ...

DERAILED 90046 @ BLETCHLEY | On-board First Train to Pass! 03/02/12
On the very first train cleared to pass the scene of the derailed 90046, which left the rails after it apparently went to cross over the junction to fast. I was filming at Milton Keynes for an hour or so and then was told that this train which said it was terminating at MK, was actually going to be the first to attempt to head south. By the time we'd got the signal, 3 other Pendolinos had arrived hoping to head south. There was a pendo in all but 2 platforms at MK all heading south! Crazy stuff! But I was 390002, the first one to leave! Notice the BBC news helicopter which was reporting live at the time because my Youtube friend Rorymacve was watching my train pass the scene live! :D After several pendo's suddenly arriving in Euston the next problem was crew, being in the wrong places. But check the chaos caused by the boarding of some services! Like the 16:30 to Glasgow, which was calling addition at Crewe, Warrington and Wigan. Railfest 2010, in Rockwood, Rio Grande Southern Goose number 5 is fueling, and preparing for the trip up the line, while 481 blasts through with her regular consist. When the goose crew goes to back around from the fuel tank, they forgot to move the wheel chock, and bam, on the ground she goes. Amtrak Derail
An Amtrak train derailed near a small Nebraska town after slamming into some equipment that was left on the tracks. Several were injured in the accident. As part of our coverage we interviewed eye witnesses, passengers and train officials. We also flew over the scene in a plane for aerials to go along with our video on the ground. Our team coverage included several reporters covering the multiple angles of the story and the going to several of the key locations.
