Video from Jan 2003 Int'l Society of Explosive Engineers (ISEE) conference in Las Vegas. It is one of four such "year end highlight videos" produced by Protec/Implosionworld for the annual conference between 1999 & 2003. Approximately 70 implosions from 2002 are seen through our photographer's unique persective... which sometimes involved losing a few cameras. Unfortunately the ISEE eventually alienated the structural blasting component of the society, so these highlight videos were discontinued. Scores of residents in Syokimau area have been left homeless after bulldozers flattened their houses worth millions of shillings off Mombasa Road in Nairobi under the supervision of armed administration and regular police officers. According to Kenya Airports Authority, the houses sit in the corridor flight path, which poses a great risk to the safety of planes as well as the lives of the dwellers. Demolition Man
The plot of this action film begins in 1996, with Los Angeles in a violence-crazed conflagration. One of the LAPD's most notorious cops, John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone), known as "the demolition man," is in hot pursuit of blonde-haired psychopath Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes), who is so nasty he even kills sometimes just because he feels cranky. John captures Simon, but not before Simon kills innocent hostages. John is blamed for the deaths of the hostages, and both he and Simon are cryogenically frozen to remove their brand of ultra-violence from a society that is simply just too violent. The film shifts to the future world of 2032, where Los Angeles has become a megalopolis called San Angeles. There is no poverty, Arnold Schwarzenegger was (at one time) president of the United States, and Taco Bell is the sole survivor of the Franchise Wars. Into this peaceful and bland society, Simon is summarily defrosted by reigning benevolent dictator Dr. Cocteau (Nigel Hawthorne) to have Simon murder Edgar Friendly (Denis Leary), the leader of a group of underground rebels. But Cocteau bites off more than he can chew when the melted-down Simon proceeds to go on a murder-and-looting spree. Reluctantly, Cocteau defrosts John to hunt down his old adversary. As John adjusts to self-driving cars and having sex wearing helmets, he pairs up with Lenina Huxley (Sandra Bullock), a bored cop with a nostalgic fascination for 20th-century culture.

Raw footage of the encounter of residents defending their homes and the police enforcing demolition. In this video, the police shielded themselves from residents throwing stones to prevent them from enforcing demolition. Residents resolutely stood their ground and expelled police with stones, bottles and Molotov. Police retreated after a Molotov hit the middle of their phalanx and the residents advanced on them with stones. The police came back firing teargas and residents ran to protect themselves.

Argyll Hotel, Oban, demolition December 30 2011
Traffic came to a stand-still on numerous occasions on Friday December 30 2011 in Oban as a large part of the Argyll Hotel on The Esplanade was torn down piece by piece. The slates had previously been removed, much of the interior and most of the roof trusses, leaving just the shell to demolish. By mid-afternoon a large part of the previously Listed building was gone. Traffic was re-directed around the back of the Columba Hotel, on to the North Pier, which presented difficulties for a number of articulated lorries, which were unable to make the turn from George Street on the to North Pier. All traffic was halted while a large chimney breast and gable end in the middle of the three buildings that made up the hotel, was taken down.

Instead it's GameBattles, a league where better players go into private matches with limited rule sets and play against each other. TmarT and I win more than we lose but we don't pretend to be among the very elite in competitive gaming. These guys crushed us in the first game to the point where it felt like we didn't belong in the same lobby as them. We entered this one just hoping not to embarrass ourselves. If you don't play a lot of demo the lines of sight, power positions, etc. that you need to win are all new to you. That's the position I was in. A few of you will be convinced that if you were in this game you'd easily win every gunfight and crush these guys. Some of you are GB vets and might even be right. Many of you are simply delusional. :) Lessons learned: 1) We need a bit more time in this game type before we're ready to take on the best players. 2) Gaming is fun.
