Direct Democracy

If you would like a fully detailed sketch of the organization of direct democracy and how it would function, please see the following link: www.infoshop.org A great first step toward direct democracy is a proposal to create a ballot initiative at the federal level. Please see: ni4d.us I used some footage from the Venus Project. I just came across the videos and apparently they are pretty big on YouTube. I don't necessarily indorse the VP. I actually just heard about it and I'm ordering a book about the subject. Im just letting everyone know so I dont create any kind of confusion. From what I've seen (limited to about 3 videos) it looks interesting but I would need more information. From what I can tell, it looks a little bit like libertarian communism but that's just my first impression. I should also mention that Mutualist (a school of Left-Libertarianism) foresee a society in which direct democracy takes place in the workplace but not in the individual community.

THE WAR ON DEMOCRACY 1/10

John Pilger's documentary explores the historic and current relationship of Washington with countries such as Venezuela, Bolivia and Chile. Pilger claims that the film "...tells a universal story... analyzing and revealing, through vivid testimony, the story of great power behind its venerable myths. It allows us to understand the true nature of the so-called "war on terror". According to Pilger, the films message is that the greed and power of empire is not invincible and that people power is always the "seed beneath the snow". Pilger interviews several ex-CIA agents who purportedly took part in secret campaigns against democratic countries and who he claims are profiting from the war in Iraq. He investigates the School of the Americas in the US state of Georgia, where General Pinochets torture squads were reportedly trained along with tyrants and death-squad leaders in Haiti, El Salvador, Brazil and Argentina.

Bruce Cockburn Live . Call It Democracy

"Call it Democracy" is perhaps the only song ever written about the International Monetary Fund, which Cockburn accuses of fostering "insupportable debt" in Third World countries. Typically not pulling any punches, Cockburn charges that the IMF doesn't "really give a flying fuck about the people in misery." That earned it a few bleeps on radio and video channels, but no one seemed to notice the chorus, "IMF, dirty MF." We won't spell out here what "MF" stands for, but it can easily be imagined." Padded with power here they come International loan sharks backed by the guns Of market hungry military profiteers Whose word is a swamp and whose brow is smeared With the blood of the poor Who rob life of its quality Who render rage a necessity By turning countries into labour camps Modern slavers in drag as champions of freedom Sinister cynical instrument Who makes the gun into a sacrament -- The only response to the deification Of tyranny by so-called "developed" nations' Idolatry of ideology North South East West Kill the best and buy the rest It's just spend a buck to make a buck You don't really give a flying fuck About the people in misery IMF dirty MF Takes away everything it can get Always making certain that there's one thing left Keep them on the hook with insupportable debt See the paid-off local bottom feeders Passing themselves off as leaders Kiss the ladies shake hands with the fellows Open for business like a cheap bordello And they call it democracy And they call ...

A new democratic revolution is sweeping northern Europe - Nigel Farage

www.ukipmeps.org • European Parliament, Strasbourg - 28 September 2011 •Speaker Nigel Farage MEP, UKIP, Co-President of the EFD Group in the European Parliament (Europe of Freedom and Democracy) • Debate: State of the Union address by the President of the Commission, José Manuel Barroso • Speech Transcript: Mr Barroso, You told us this morning that the European Union is an inspiration. And whilst you admitted to there being one or two little economic problems, you made it perfectly clear that jobs and growth were to follow, that everything is going well - in fact you painted a vision that a new period of European renewal is upon us. Now as a former communist yourself you probably remember the old soviet leaders getting up to give their speeches and telling everybody that there was a record harvest, or that tractor production figures were terribly good. And they of course believed that history was on their side and in fact President Krushchev got up and said to the West 'We will bury you," so much did he believe in his own Union. Well now of course we look back at that and we laugh. And I think in our tomorrows, people will look back at you, and they will say 'how did this unelected man get all of this power?' And how did Europe's political class sitting in this room decide that the community method [federal] should replace national democracy. I think people will look back in astonishment that we've surrendered democracy. But what you want to do is to say, right, we have a ...

Douglas Rushkoff - Open Source Democracy

PUNKCAST1467 - Nov 5 2008. In the fifth lecture in Evan Korth's NYU Computers and Society course featured author, thinker and professor Douglas Rushkoff. His topic:"Open Source Democracy." Following is the foreword, by Douglas Alexander, to Rushkoff's paper on the same topic: "The internet has become an integral part of our lives because it is interactive. That means people are senders of information, rather than simply passive receivers of 'old' media. Most importantly of all, we can talk to each other without gatekeepers or editors. This offers exciting possibilities for new social networks, which are enabled - but not determined - by digital technology. In the software industry, the open source movement emphasises collective cooperation over private ownership. This radical idea may provide the biggest challenge to the dominance of Microsoft. Open source enthusiasts have found a more efficient way of working by pooling their knowledge to encourage innovation. All this is happening at a time when participation in mainstream electoral politics is declining in many Western countries, including the US and Britain. Our democracies are increasingly resembling old media, with fewer real opportunities for interaction. What, asks Douglas Rushkoff in this original essay for Demos, would happen if the 'source code' of our democratic systems was opened up to the people they are meant to serve? 'An open source model for participatory, bottom-up and emergent policy will force us to ...

Vermin Supreme, 2012 Democratic Presidential Candidate

Unlike some other states, getting on to the New Hampshire Primary Ballot is incredibly simple. Thousands of signatures aren't needed, only $1000 and a page-long form. Most importantly, party approval is not required. Vermin Supreme is one of 44 candidates that New Hampshire residents can vote for on Tuesday. He believes that America should be better prepared for the impending zombie apocalypse, and -- if elected President -- he has also vowed to travel back in time to kill the infant Adolf Hitler. Mr. Supreme also plans a compulsory tooth-brushing law, and also promises a pony for every American. I interviewed Vermin Supreme at a Rick Santorum event in Manchester. He took to the podium before Santorum arrived and spoke to the standing-room only crowd for 15 minutes before Santorum's people had him ejected from the building.

Democrats Warn: Beware Ron Paul!

Tom Woods discusses "Five Things You Should Know About Ron Paul," an article posted to the front page of Democrats.org. www.TomWoods.com www.facebook.com

What is the difference between Republicans and Democrats? Two sides of the same coin!

What is the difference between a Republican and a Democrat president? Where did the money come from to get them in power, and, who are they now indebted to? Sadly if I look into that, I think I will see the cold hard reality, that it has always been many of the same major players for both. Seriously, who spends millions and millions of dollars to get into that office and then can say they are not indebted to any PAC or lobby? Of the last several presidents, not a single one, not one of them! If you could really follow the money trail, you would see that all roads lead right back to Rome (the Vatican), as it is the Vatican who is using the leaders as puppets to bring about a forced solution in the middle east with them firmly seated in Jerusalem. Even the Bohos (Bohemian Grove members) are ultimately controlled by the minions of the Antichrist. Don't believe me? Kabila's Congo - Democratic Republic of Congo

June 1999 Following Kabila's takeover, Kinshasa's unpaid and undervalued middle classes urgently want a better life. We examine the future of a new regime which rode to power promising real change. At informal 'street parliaments', the educated classes scrutinise every aspect of Kabila's rule and what they find makes them nervous - they're awaiting democracy and jobs. In one group lawyers and doctors gather for anxious political debate. At Kinshasa's version of Wall Street, located on a muddy road, American dollars change hands for local currency during vigorous trading: official banks have little or no cash. American-educated Deogratias Baharama works unpaid at the dilapidated Ministry of Agriculture. His wife Jean sells beans at market just to keep their dingy home. Finance Minister Mwampanga Mwana Nanga wants to kick start the economy but has a problem, "I need hard cash. I need money", he sighs. A printing press still churns out sheets of virtually worthless paper money. At a political rally Laurent Kabila provokes a frenzy with a promise to end unemployment. Though wary of the future, people are, for now, prepared to 'wait and see'. Produced by ABC Australia Distributed by Journeyman Pictures

Van Jones: Environmentalists Don't Protest Democrat Presidents

"I'm critical of myself, first, and the environmentalists. When the oil spill had happened in the spring of 2010, there was another moment to say, 'Hold on a second, let's relook at energy policy in America. Should we be subsidizing companies who are risking our health immediately and in the long-term?'" We didn't do it. You've never seen the environmental movement more quiet during an oil spill. I guarantee you, if John McCain had been President, with that oil spill, or George Bush had been President with that oil spill, I'd have been out there with a sign protesting. I didn't, because of who the President was. Well, that's a bad, uh, uh...that's not good for the earth, it's not good for the cause, it's probably not good for the President. It's certainly not the way we should conduct ourselves. And so, I'm very tough on progressive movements and leaders, including myself, who did not stand on principle, based upon who we looked across and saw as President."

Rage Against The Machine - Democratic Convention 2000

Uncensored & Unrestricted Music Videos you can't find on other Social Networks! bvmtv.com Twitter: #BVMTV - @JeffBVMTV Rage Against the Machine (RATM) played a free concert in protest of the two-party system. The band had been considering playing a protest concert there since April of that year.In the months leading up to the convention, cable channel MTV began planning a large, free concert to take place in downtown Los Angeles as a part of its "Choose or Lose" campaign aimed at getting youth out to vote. MTV decided that popular rock group RATM would be the ideal marquee band. However, RATM's aggressive political message combined with the title of its most recent album, The Battle of Los Angeles, caused serious concerns from LA city leaders. MTV's applications for staging the concert were denied by the city and the channel eventually gave up its attempts to plan one. After MTV's attempts failed, a number of protest groups agreed to give their one hour time allotments on the stage in the Protest Zone. RATM was offered prime time slots coinciding with the marquee speaker on the opening night of the convention, then-President Bill Clinton. Although they were at first required by the City of Los Angeles to perform in a small venue at a considerable distance, early in August a United States district court judge ruled that the City's request was too restrictive and the City subsequently allowed the protests and concert to be held at a site across from the DNC. The police ...

War On Democracy

In spite of a history of repeated US-backed suppression, popular democratic movements are gaining ground. The War on Democracy demonstrates the brutal reality of the America's notion of 'spreading democracy'; that, in fact, America is actually conducting a war on democracy, and that true popular democracy is now more likely to be found among the poorest of Latin America whose grassroots movements are often ignored in the west. John Pilger conducts an exclusive interview with President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela. Pilger also goes to the United States and in some remarkable interviews, speaks exclusively to US government officials who ran the CIA's war in Latin America in the 1980s. This reveals more about US policy than all the statements and postures of recent times; it also reveals how what's happened in Latin America is a metaphor for how the rest of the world is being "ordered."

Are the Norouz ceremonies these days the beginning of the restoration of Tajik identity which was so damaged by the former Soviet Union? President Emomali Rahmon: During the Soviet era, there were huge restrictions on performing traditions and national customs. These celebrations were banned and those who practised them were persecuted. But this celebration is in the heart of our people. Even during more than 70 years of domination, the soviet regime could not abolish this tradition.
