TRANSLOGIC 87: Electric DeLorean DMC-EV

Texas-based DeLorean Motor Company is looking to redefine the iconic DMC-12 conceived by John Z. DeLorean over 3 decades ago. While its pop-culture status as the "Back to the Future car" will never change, the DMC-12's reputation for surprisingly poor performance can certainly be addressed. With some help from Epic EV, the folks at DeLorean have swapped the car's original 130 hp V6 for an all-electric powertrain that produces 260 max hp and is reported to go from 0-60 mph in under 5 seconds. That's certainly one way to transport the stainless steel, gull-winged wonder from the past into the future.

Time Circuit Display for a DeLorean Time Machine from Back To The Future

This is a programmable Time Circuit Display unit. It is designed to be mounted on top of the DeLorean dashboard. It functions on 12vdc and you can change the three LED displays by pressing the keypad buttons. This unit was not designed or made by CEI. We purchased it from a known BTTF competitor after he attempted to make it work. Because he lacked the skills to service it and make it function so he gave up and he called us knowing we could easily repair this and asked us to purchase it. We did, and just a few hours later, we had it working as it orginally was designed to. Take a look as we demonstat how one of the displays can be programmed. In 1973, John DeLorean was most likely going to be the next president of General Motors, when he turned his back on his $650000 a year job and focused on a grander dream... to build his own car company (the first new American car company since 1925). In 1978, DeLorean built the most advanced auto factory in the world in under 18 months, from the ground up in a small suburb of Belfast, Northern Ireland. When British Television (ATV) asked us to make a film about John DeLorean, out great automotive adventure began, an adventure that took us to the auto show in Geneva, where DeLorean and his wife showed his new car for the first time to the excited world of car buffs; to car designer Guigiaro's huge studio-factory in Italy where full-size wooden replica's of Lotuses, Ferraris and DeLoreans were locked away in secret vaults; and to DeLorean's Belfast assembly plant which was financed by the British government in an attempt to ease tensions between Protestants and Catholics by bringing them together in a working environment. Here workers from both sides built the car that became the legend of the movie "Back to the Future." When you see how close it all came to working you wonder how it could go so wrong.

As you guys know from our previous reports, back to the future came out with the nike marty mcfly kicks and NOW fans can get their paws on a delorean! For years Texas-based DeLorean Motor Company has been servicing and selling DeLorean cars and merchandise, but they've also used old parts to assemble new DeLoreans with 80% original parts and 20% modern technology. But now a new all-electric DMCEV DeLorean is coming with an eye for production in 2013. The car was recently unveiled at the International DeLorean Owners Event in Houston, Texas. the specs on the car itself haven't been revealed, Im assuming that taking this car for a ride in its up to 88mph limit will NOT help you travel time. But going just on these imafes, this car look pretty bad ass, complete with a iphone holster! So would you guys buy one of these bad boys if you could? Here is the complete PDF on the crash testing shown in the video. www.delorean.net It was *not* a test of the DeLorean, but a test of how car already in production *could* have airbags fitted using computer modeling techniques rather than design the car with airbags in mind. The DeLorean car was used (two, actually - a 35mph test and a 40mph test) because DMC donated four early production cars (VIN 515, 517, 531 and 537) to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA). In the 40mph test, the testers were unable to get one of the driver's side door latches to close completely, and this violated the integrity of the side impact beam (which goes from latch to latch inside the door) causing it to open from the impact. This is noted in the report (page 60 in the PDF), and in spite of that, the report further goes on to state: After the 40mph test ".the compartment interior dimensions following the crash were still quite generous so that most of the original compartment volume was maintained." ".the DeLorean proved to be a very well designed vehicle in terms of allowing a relatively great amount of front end crush without adversely compromising the "survival space" in the compartment."
