The controversial song by Bok van Blerk about the Anglo-Boer War that caused an outcry of indignation in South Africa. As the British tried to do a hundred years ago, the black majority government is now trying to suppress the Afrikaner nation's culture - and in fact all traces of their history. Public funding is being withdrawn from Afrikaner monuments, even though Afrikaners contribute more than their share to tax income. Millions are being spent on changing the names of towns, streets etc. while little is done to maintain infrastructure. The new generation of Afrikaners had nothing to do with Apartheid, yet they are faced with a bleak future, suffering under racial discrimination in the form of affirmative action. Although this excludes them from jobs and promotion beyond a certain level, it also stimulates entrepreneurship and innovative thinking. The Afrikaner nation will rise again to take its place in the country their forefathers helped to build and develop.

An Afrikaans song based on General De La Rey, a Boer general during the Boer war against the British. I am a Dutch Canadian and I know a little bit of Dutch, which is very similar to Afrikaans. In fact, many Boers are of Dutch descent. I am reading the lyrics as I play, so i mess up a few times, but hey I tried!

Welcome back to another video of mine. Given that my Pa is Afrikaans, I thought I'd share my favourite Afrikaans track to commemorate my South African roots. Although this song is about the Boer Wars, I like the beat and it's a nice song to listen to whenever I'm drinking my milk and getting ready for bed. For those who don't know about the Boer Wars... They were two wars fought around the late 1800's between the British and South Africa (Orange Free State & Transvaal Republic). This song represents that war. Enjoy what I call, the ultimate lullaby song.

Afrikanerhart song about the Boer war(1899-1902) - the Boer War lasted three years and was very bloody. The British fought directly against the Transvaal and the Orange Free State(Boere). The bloodshed that was seen during the war was alarming . Battle of Magersfontein It was fought on 11 December 1899 at Magersfontein near Kimberley on the borders of the Cape Colony and the independent republic of the Orange Free State. General Piet Cronje and General De la Rey's Boer troops defeated the British troops under Lieutenant General Lord Methuen, who had been sent to relieve the Siege of Kimberley. "the words" Jopie Fourie(Boer Hero) was born in the Pretoria district in 1878. He was a scout during the Boer War, and was wounded and captured in action north of Pretoria. After the war he became a captain in the Active Citizen Force, and in 1914 decided to join the rebellion in protest against Prime Minister Louis Botha's decision to invade German South West Africa as part of the international war effort against Germany. He was captured in the Rustenburg area on 16 December 1914 and was court-martialled. On 20 December of the same year he was executed by firing squad. Before the execution he asked that they shoot him threw his Afrikaner Heart And not in his face!!

FROM THE HEART OF AN AFRIKANER Bok van Blerk, born Louis Pepler March 30, 1978, is a South African musician who sings in Afrikaans. He became famous in 2006 for his rendition of 'Delarey', a tribute to the Boer general, Koos de la Rey, who was regarded as one of the strongest military leaders during the British-Boer conflict during the Second Boer War (1899 -- 1902). The 'Delarey' song rose to instant popularity among many White South Africans, and especially the Afrikaners-speaking folk. It caused a slight stir among government officials during February 2007 when they erroneously interpreted the lyrics as a call to armed battle. I suppose the ANC government must have crapped themselves when their (un)intelligent service reported that some people attending Bok van Blerk's concerts were displaying the old South African flag and the Transvaal Vierkleur. (The Orange Free State Vierkleur is shown in the De La Rey video as part of the period scene depicted in the song and video). The video can be viewed here. Van Blerk himself says that he does not identify himself with the old South African flag, nor does he want to be associated with it. But he does promote Afrikaans and has refused to participate in the concert organised by the 94.7 Highveld Stereo radio station because of their policy not to play Afrikaans music.
