ELECTRIC COMPANY: AT HOME WITH DICK AND JANE (Audience PoV)
Film adaptation of AT HOME WITH DICK & JANE by Electric Company Theatre, of Vancouver, 2010. Starring Jonathon Young and Kim Collier, created & designed with Marianne Otterstrom, music by Patrick Pennefather, film produced by Deco Dawson. A single audience member is led along in a seat by an operator around the set on a dolly track. The audience views the live-performed action through a small frame created inside the seat. The effect is that of 'becoming a movie camera'. The action of this piece is preceded by a ten-minute interview between two pretentious directors - one film, one theatre - who talk about their competing DICK & JANE projects. Summer passings observed the enigmatic West Nile malady steal its way into the minds and forests of Winnipeg wanderers, casting its feverish amnesia spell; immobilizing wooded creatures collectively pleading to be cured and released of their infirmity. A cautious wanderer disregards her own ailment to aid the others as best she can; however the forest hosts its own fevers.

The newest film by Marcel Dzama, "A Game of Chess," debuts at David Zwirner in New York, and is on view in the artist's solo exhibition "Marcel Dzama: Behind Every Curtain" (February 17 - March 19, 2011). Alongside the film, the exhibition also features related drawings, sculptures, and dioramas. An exhibition catalogue, designed in collaboration with the artist in the format of a small sketchbook, is being published by the gallery on the occasion of the show, and includes storyboards and film and production stills from the making of the film.
