On their way to a wedding, Danny and Irene pick up a hitchhiker -- throwing the film in the direction of the conventional rural kidnapper thriller. But Daylight emerges as much, much more than just another exploitation picture. The kidnappers enact a bizarre, terrifying ritual of politeness, endowing such scenes as the passing of a bread knife with a threat of ferocious violence -- but also trust. Vulnerable and dangerous, a captive and a seductress, Irene struggles to survive, bringing the audience with her through to the shattering conclusion. For example, although Matt and Kim know they met while taking classes at Pratt Institute in New York, Kims not sure what year she graduated, let alone when they decided to start playing music as a two-piece. Southern Pacific Daylight #4449 races through Michigan just west of Niles at the Portage Rd. crossing, on July 19th at around 2:15 pm. On its final leg of the journey from Portland, OR to Owosso, MI for Train Festival '09. The bridge in the distance is US 31, just north of its junction with US 12. On this day, 4449 was running 4 hours behind schedule due to some re-routing of the engine itself the night before after clearance concerns on the original route.
