Johor DAP Fund Raising Dinner
Johor DAP recorded an unprecedented show of support from the people in Johor Bahru during its fund raising dinner which was held here, recently. CJMY was made to understand that the huge turnout of some 3200 supporters and well wishers came not only for the dining but specifically to listen to DAP's state and national leaders who were scheduled to speak at the dinner that evening including Penang chief minister, Lim Guan Eng. DAP's state leaders who spoke on that evening include Tan Hong Pin, the state organizing secretary, followed by Andrew Chen, DAPSY committee member whereas the national leader speakers were Liew Chin Tong, member of parliament for Bukit Bendera, Dr. Hew Kuan Yau, the 'superman', Tony Pua, member of parliament for Petaling Jaya Utara and Penang chief minister, Lim Guan Eng. MP Liew Chin Tong told the crowd that Pakatan needs to win at least a third of the total parliamentary seats in the state of Johor, Sabah and Sarawak to see a change in the federal government. He urged Johoreans to catch up with the wind of change and to create history by voting at least a third of the Johor Pakatan candidates to parliament in the forthcoming 13GE. The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) erupts in jubilation when the candidates for Pending, Batu Lintang and Padungan were announced as victors. About 400 people, waving flags and mostly donning red, boisterously chant "Ubah" and "Vote DAP" while reaching over a metal barrier to 'high five' the three candidates. Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng who is also the Secretary-General of DAP had two press conferences after the debate with MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek. Unseen on the live telecast, the hall was a bit chaotic after the debate was over. Crowds rushed towards the two debaters as they were leaving the hall. Datuk Seri Dr Chua accompanied CM Lim into a VIP room for a press conference but due to the chaos, the hotel guards had to bar everyone from entering as supporters were trying to gain access. After a while, when the crowd calmed down, reporters were allowed into the press conference room in a single queue. A reporter asked CM Lim to comment on the reaction of the delegates but CM Lim merely smiled and said he doesn't want to comment. CM held another press conference later to thank DAP supporters who had come from all parts of Malaysia including East Malaysia. As agreed between CM Lim and DS Dr Chua, another debate in either Bahasa Malaysia or English will be held in a month's time at a venue to be decided later.

In the exclusive interview with Johor DAP state chief, Dr. Boo Cheng Hau who is also the current ADUN for Skudai and Johor Assembly opposition leader gave his take on a number of issues posed by our citizen journalist. Touching on the issue on how he rates Pakatan Rakyat chances of becoming the next state government, he said, it's going to be tough task but PK working hard to deny the Barisan Nasional (BN) government a two third majority. It's now all up to the people in Johor to decide whether they want PR to be in as the next government. When asked, how ready is Pakatan Rakyat in taking over the state administration, he stressed that Pakatan Rakyat is ever ready to administer the state should the people in Johor decide to vote us in, When asked about allegations that DAP is a racist party, Dr. Boo went on great length to explain why all those allegations made by opposing parties including certain NGOs doesn't stand. In concluding the interview, Dr. Boo reiterated by saying that DAP has always been working for the betterment of the people.
PPPA amendments mere cosmetic changes, says DAP
Amendments to the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984 (PPPA) are mere cosmetic changes, charged the DAP, since media practitioners can still be punished for publishing 'false news'. Its secretary-general Lim Guan Eng pointed out today that the government has overlooked Section 8A which states 'malice should be presumed' unless there is evidence to prove otherwise, and that this provision can still be used to clamp down on the opposition. www.malaysiakini.com

PSM-DAP clash likely in Jelapang
Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) is adamant that it will contest in the Jelapang state legislative assembly seat in Perak, despite the fact that the seat is considered a stronghold of ally DAP. Secretary-general S Arutchelvan said a multi-cornered contest for the seat is possible should negotiations break down. "We are negotiating (with DAP)... But if (this fails), it will be a three-cornered fight," said Arutchelvan during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
