Camille Saint-Saëns - Danse Macabre
Danse Macabre (first performed in 1875) is the name of opus 40 by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns. The composition is based upon a poem by Henri Cazalis, on an old French superstition: Zig, zig, zig, Death in a cadence, Striking with his heel a tomb, Death at midnight plays a dance-tune, Zig, zig, zig, on his violin. The winter wind blows and the night is dark; Moans are heard in the linden trees. Through the gloom, white skeletons pass, Running and leaping in their shrouds. Zig, zig, zig, each one is frisking, The bones of the dancers are heard to crack— But hist! of a sudden they quit the round, They push forward, they fly; the cock has crowed. According to the ancient superstition, "Death" appears at midnight every year on Halloween. Death has the power to call forth the dead from their graves to dance for him while he plays his fiddle (represented by a solo violin with its E-string tuned to an E-flat in an example of scordatura tuning). His skeletons dance for him until the first break of dawn, when they must return to their graves until the next year. The piece opens with a harp playing a single note, D, twelve times to signify the clock striking midnight, accompanied by soft chords from the string section. This then leads to the eerie E flat and A chords (also known as a tritone or the "Devil's chord") played by a solo violin, representing death on his fiddle. This project has been in my heart for a long time and Finally I've completed it. Danse Macabre or Dance Macabre is a brilliant piece of music in my opinion. I first fell in love with it when it was played during my music class in the third grade to introduce the instrument families. This music amazes me at how spooky and scary it can be yet it has a joyfulness about it. According to legend, "Death" appears at midnight every year on Halloween. Death calls forth the dead from their graves to dance their dance of death for him while he plays his fiddle. His skeletons dance for him until the rooster crows at dawn, when they must return to their graves until the next year. This is my treat to you all for the Halloween season. You might like it or you may hate it but it is dear to me. Happy Halloweedn.

At the age of eleven Paul van Haver already showed an interest in music, and attended l'Académie Musicale de Jette, where he was taught both the drum and music history. In 2000 he appeared as a rapper called Opmaestro, though he later changed his stage name to Stromae ("Maestro" with the syllables switched). It was with this name that van Haver had success. When he was eighteen, he founded a rap group called "Suspicion", along with rapper "JEDI" in Eichof. They produced the song and video "Faut k't'arrêtes le Rap". Though later JEDI decided to leave the rap duo. In order to finance his private school education, van Haver worked part-time in the fast food industry, but his school performance wasn't up to standard. It was later, when he registered at l'Institut National de Radioélectricité et Cinématographie that he released his first album "Juste un cerveau, un flow, un fond et un mic...". In 2008 he signed a 4-year record publishing deal with "Because Music" and "Kilomaître". In 2009 Paul was young trainee at the musical radio station NRJ in Brussels.
