Dalglish prefers FA Cup over Premier League - Liverpool v Chelsea | Premier League

Kenny Dalglish values Liverpool cup wins over fifth place in the league Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish says he would be more satisfied by winning two cups than being fifth in the league. The Reds, who won the last of their 18 league titles in 1990 during Dalglish's first reign, are eighth in the Premier League, 34 points behind the leaders. "There is an obsession with the Premier League," said Dalglish, whose team are seeking a League Cup and FA Cup double. "But there's satisfaction from winning a cup that you don't get from finishing fifth or sixth in the league." Liverpool won the then-Division One title seven times in 10 seasons during the 1980s but have failed qualify for the Champions League in the last two seasons, finishing seventh in 2010 and sixth last year. Defeat against Fulham on Tuesday night was their fourth at home this season and took their total of points dropped at Anfield to 30 this season. Dalglish, who replaced Roy Hodgson as manager in January last year, ended the club's six-year wait for silverware by securing the Carling Cup with victory over Cardiff on penalties in February. And they face Chelsea on Saturday in the FA Cup final. "Any competition you enter you want to do the best you possibly can in," said the 61-year-old Scotsman. "In the league it is 38 games and at the end you finish in a position which tells you how successful it has been. "We have already tasted a cup final this year, albeit the Carling Cup, and getting to the FA Cup final ...

Dalglish attacks hypocritical FA over Liverpool treatment

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has said the FA did not set a good example by appealing against Wayne Rooney's three-match Euro 2012 ban. Dalglish said: "I find it a bit strange the FA are supposed to be setting an example for things yet they appeal against Wayne Rooney's ban." Rooney's ban, imposed after being sent off against Montenegro, was reduced to two games by Uefa. Dalglish is also unhappy at the FA's treatment of his striker Luis Suarez. Suarez is facing a racism charge dating from October and has also been charged with misconduct after allegedly making an obscene gesture to fans following the Reds' 1-0 defeat at Fulham on Monday. Dalglish is unhappy that no date has been set for the Uruguayan international to answer the racism charge. "The fact it has taken nine weeks to get a decision on one of the other charges is a bit of a joke as well," the Scot told a press conference. "I don't think that has helped as well. The circus which is around about him has been caused mainly by that." A screen was lowered at the conference on which the club played what they said was a series of unpunished infringements against Suarez during the Fulham game. Dalglish has already indicated he thought referee Kevin Friend did not give his team the benefit of 50-50 decisions during Monday's match. He said he fully supported 24-year-old Suarez: "The people at Liverpool and anyone who has any leaning to the club - be it staff, players, supporters - they will stand by him and they know ...

Kenny Dalglish sacking - Opinions from Liverpool fans

Kenny Dalglish will have been left "shocked and distraught" by his sacking as Liverpool manager, according to former Anfield team-mate and close friend Alan Hansen. Dalglish was dismissed after one full season in his second spell at Liverpool in which they won the Carling Cup and finished eighth in the Premier League. But Hansen insists that should have been enough to guarantee 61-year-old Dalglish at least another year at Anfield and believes there was genuine cause for optimism about further improvement next year. Hansen told BBC Sport: "Kenny will be shocked and distraught because he loved Liverpool Football Club and their supporters. Just walking through the door at Anfield gave him an extra spring in his step and he will feel fragile today about not being able to do that again as manager. "And as his friend I know how much he put into the job. Even when he went back to work at the academy before becoming the manager again he put his heart and soul into it. I'd ring him for a chat on a Sunday and he would be down there. He just loved being at Liverpool. "He was so enthusiastic about working with those kids and what he could pass on to them and how he could improve them and nobody could have worked harder when he was manager because he loved Liverpool so much." Hansen added: "The American owners have set the bar high by sacking him because they are saying only the Champions League matters. This is increasingly true but you have to remember where Liverpool were when he ...

Blackburn 2-3 Liverpool - Dalglish on Doni dismissal | English Premier League

Ten-man Liverpool stopped Blackburn climbing out of the Premier League relegation zone thanks to Andy Carroll's injury-time header. Maxi Rodriguez twice scored from close range before keeper Alexander Doni was sent off and a penalty awarded. Substitute keeper Brad Jones, who now looks set to face Everton in Saturday's FA Cup semi-final, saved from Yakubu. The Rovers striker struck with a header and a second-half equaliser from the spot before Carroll's late header. The £35m striker's intervention, from Daniel Agger's knockdown, capped an incident-packed 90 minutes and earned Liverpool only their second win in nine top-flight games. While Reds manager Kenny Dalglish could not hide his delight as he skipped down the touchline, Rovers boss Steve Kean cut a forlorn figure as Blackburn remain in the bottom three courtesy of QPR's better goal difference. In the build-up to this game, Dalglish had promised Liverpool would not be distracted by thoughts of Saturday's Merseyside derby in the FA Cup semi-final. But the Wembley date was suddenly uppermost in Reds minds once Doni carelessly upended Junior Hoilett after a tame backpass by teenage right-back Jon Flanagan fell woefully short, resulting in a straight red for the Brazilian. Australian keeper Jones immediately came on, replacing the unfortunate Flanagan, and with first-choice Pepe Reina already suspended after his dismissal against Newcastle last month, it will be the 31-year-old who will walk out to face Everton at Wembley ...

Kenny Dalglish Discusses Liverpool | English Premier League 2012

Liverpool's faltering league form continued as they were beaten by a determined and dogged Sunderland side. After a forgettable first half, the Black Cats took the lead when a Fraizer Campbell shot rebounded off the post and keeper Pepe Reina's head, before Nicklas Bendtner side-footed in. Liverpool brought on Steven Gerrard and Andy Carroll but to no avail. Sunderland sat back and protected their lead against a Reds side which failed to come close to an equaliser. Liverpool may have won the Carling Cup two weeks ago but a top-four place - and Champions League football - seems far from their grasp after just one league win from their last eight outings. The gap between the Merseysiders in seventh position and fourth-placed Arsenal is now 10 points - while they are eight points closer to the bottom of the table than they are the top. The victory moves Sunderland two points behind Liverpool - and ended a run of one point from nine going into the game. Sunderland's pressure and positional discipline provided a tough challenge for a Reds side that rarely provided the guile and invention to show they were capable of breaking down their hosts. /football on Youtube brings you the latest football news, transfer rumours and footballing gossip from the English Premier League and European Champions League. Kenny Dalglish Post Match Interview - QPR 3-2 Liverpool 21/03/2012

21/03/2012 Liverpool defeat at QPR hard to explain - Kenny Dalglish Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish says he and his staff have "no explanation" for how his side allowed QPR to come back to win 3-2 at Loftus Road . The Reds boss believes his side were "easily deserving" of their 2-0 lead, and he could not see a goal coming against them before Mark Hughes's team scored three times in teh final 13 minutes. Dalglish suggests that the home side may have got the "luck they never got at Bolton", where a QPR goal was not awarded despite the ball clearly crossing the line.

Liverpool vs. Everton | Dalglish on Suarez Rumours | English Premier League 2012

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish has dismissed speculation suggesting that striker Luis Suarez is interested in leaving Merseyside for Paris Saint-Germain. The 25-year-old claimed during an interview on French television station Canal+ that he would "love" to play alongside Uruguayan teammate and PSG centre-back Diego Lugano at club level. The quotes prompted speculation that the former Ajax frontman would be open to a switch to the Ligue 1 side. "What quotes?" Dalglish asked a Sky Sports News reporter. "I think you'll find [Edinson] Cavani was also mentioned and I think you'll find it was a television programme about Lugano. Anything you tell me I'm dismissing." Dalglish says the Merseyside derby with Everton is the most important game he will be involved in this season. Dalglish reminisces about the most poignant derby matches, including the first all-Merseyside FA Cup final in 1986 and the fixture in 1989, both of which ended with victory to the Reds. The Reds manager also gives praise to Everton boss David Moyes, saying he has done a fantastic job at the club. /football on Youtube brings you the latest football news, transfer rumours and footballing gossip from the English Premier League and European Champions League. Kenny Dalglish previews the game - Liverpool v Wigan | English Premier League 2012

Martin Kelly should be fit for Liverpool, despite coming off injured against QPR on Wednesday. Charlie Adam is doubtful with the knee injury he suffered in the same game, while Craig Bellamy, Daniel Agger and Glen Johnson are still out. Wigan are likely to be without striker Hugo Rodallega, who is still struggling with a knee injury. Midfielder David Jones (knee) and keeper Mike Pollitt (shoulder) also remain unavailable. MATCH PREVIEW Back in 1989, when Liverpool were embarking on what would be to date their last title-winning season, they played a two-legged League Cup tie against Wigan. Such was the gulf between the mighty Liverpool and their teeny neighbours from just 20 miles or so away, that both legs of the tie were played at Anfield, allowing Wigan a bumper payday and Liverpool a particularly easy passage into the next round. For the record, it was 8-2 on aggregate. Zip on through the years and haven't teeny little Wigan grown up? So much so that they are now unbeaten in their last four meetings with Liverpool and have lost just two of the last eight. So Wigan head to Anfield again with hope in their hearts. Hope based not only on those stats but also the fact that Liverpool have dropped 10 points in eight games this season against the current bottom five, have taken only eight points in 10 games since New Year and that they may have one eye on winning the FA Cup semi- final now that fourth place is a distant dream. If Wigan can avoid defeat at Anfield, it would ...

Kenny Dalglish Post Match Interview - Liverpool 2-1 Stoke City [18.03.2012]

18.03.2012 Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish reckons their 2-1 FA Cup quarter final win over Stoke has given his players a massive boost. The Reds will now play either rivals Everton or Sunderland in the semi-finals of the competition at Wembley in mid-April. And Dalglish feels a return to the home of English football, just a month and a half after winning the Carling Cup there, will do the squad no harm. "I don't think [returning to Wembley] can do any harm can it? I don't know how you would decide if it helps or hinders but it certainly won't do us any harm," he said. "I think everybody has got a great lift from the result today." "I don't think they're going to be arrogant and I don't think they're going to be disrespectful to people but I'm sure it's not done them any harm winning in the sixth round of the FA Cup, especially a game as difficult as that."

Kenny Dalglish Says Fans Are Taken For Granted [19.04.2012]

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish thinks fans are "taken for granted" when authorities organise big events. Liverpool supporters travelling to Wembley for the FA Cup final face a reduced ticket allocation, late kick-off time and transport difficulties. "Sometimes that is the problem when fans are taken for granted - not just our fans but those at all football clubs," said Dalglish. "It could have been made a bit easier for them, but they will get there." Rail maintenance work on Network Rail lines over the bank holiday weekend mean only three trains will run between Liverpool Lime Street and London Euston on 5 May, with no return journeys available. Extra train services were provided from Liverpool for the FA Cup semi-final victory over Everton, also at Wembley Liverpool and Chelsea supporters have been allocated approximately 25000 tickets each out of a 90000 capacity for the game, a drop of almost 7000 per team from those available for the semi-finals. Dalglish's side return to Premier League duty on Saturday when West Bromwich Albion travel to Anfield. The match will be Roy Hodgson's first appearance at the ground since he left the club by mutual consent in January 2011 following a troubled six-month spell in charge. Dalglish, who initially replaced the 64-year-old on a temporary basis, believes his opposite number can expect a warm reception. "Roy is a fantastic man, with huge integrity and huge knowledge about football," he said. "I am sure when he comes out of the ...

Liverpool vs Arsenal - Dalglish doesn't care about England Captain

Daniel Agger out for 'a few weeks' with rib injury - Kenny Dalglish Liverpool defender Daniel Agger will be out for "a few weeks" after fracturing his rib during Sunday's Carling Cup final victory over Cardiff City. Reds boss Kenny Dalglish confirmed the injury to the club's official website and Agger is now certain to miss Saturday's league match with Arsenal. Liverpool are also yet to discover if a tight hamstring will sideline captain Steven Gerrard for the game at Anfield. Gerrard limped out of England's 3-2 loss to the Netherlands on Wednesday. "If I don't know what it is, I can't tell you whether there is every chance or no chance [of Gerrard facing Arsenal]," Dalglish told Liverpool's official club website. "It's best for us to just wait and see what the medical people have to say once they've seen him." Agger's latest problem adds to the long list of injuries the Denmark international has suffered since his move from Brondby in 2006. Last season alone, serious calf and knee tendon problems meant he featured in just 16 top-flight matches. Agger, 27, and centre-back partner Martin Skrtel have helped Liverpool to the second-best defensive record in the Premier League this season, with the club conceding just 23 goals in 25 matches. "Anybody that is injured is a miss. Daniel has been playing fantastically well this year, but we'll miss anybody that is not fit and available," said Dalglish. "The squad is there to cover eventualities, injuries and suspensions and we'll ...
