CTA - California Transit Authority Band Montage

Video from the band CTA - California Transit Authority. Check it out. A must for fans of the band CTA, Chicago and Danny Seraphine. CTA's 'Full Circle' Now Available at Borders & Online! Drummer Danny Seraphine's trip back to the future, effectively tipping his hat to his past as a founding member of the Grammy award-winning band Chicago CTA's 'Full Circle' Now Available at Borders & Online! CTA (California Transit Authority) is drummer Danny Seraphine's trip back to the future, effectively tipping his hat to his past as a founding member of the Grammy award-winning band Chicago, with his feet firmly planted in the here and now. Aptly titled 'Full Circle', California Transit Authority's debut album brings Seraphine back to his roots. While CTA revisits early Chicago classics "Make Me Smile" and "Colour My World" on 'Full Circle', CTA isn't just a nostalgia trip. For example, "Make Me Smile" has been transformed into an instrumental, with Marc Bonilla recreating the vocal lines on guitar. In addition, Bonilla has also re-imagined many of Chicago's classic horn parts on his guitar. Another twist is vocalist Larry Braggs, the voice of Tower of Power since 2000. Aside from the re-workings of the Chicago tracks, 'Full Circle' revisits Bonilla's "Antonio's Love Jungle," which is given new life as Seraphine's human touch replaces the original's drum-machine rhythms; as well as "Something Different," the Cannonball Adderley track composed by a young Chuck Mangione. On "I'm The ...

CTA - Safety Features & Evacuation Procedures

The safety and security of customers and employees is a top priority at the CTA. This video provides customers with an overview of what to expect in case of an emergency, and identifies safety features already in place on both trains and in subway tunnels including: improved lighting, enhanced signage, emergency intercoms on the trains and emergency telephones in the tunnels. In the event of an emergency, the most important thing for our customers to remember is to stay calm and wait for instructions. CTA employees are specially trained to assist customers in an emergency situation where safety and security are concerned. Working with Chicago Police and Fire departments and the City's office of emergency management communication, CTA personnel are dedicated to keeping the system safe for everyone.

Detoured CTA Red Line, Madison to Chicago Ave. (Pt. 2)

What you can't hear is the unintentinally hilarious reactions of horrified passengers. "What's the Red Line doing up here?" "It's not running in the subway?" "You mean I have to walk two blocks!?" "I have to transfer to a BUS!?" Come on, people! Adapt or perish! This detour was announced beforehand in the media. None of the stations on the detour are more than eight blocks from those on the normal route. Most were one or two. Roosevelt and Clark/Lake are free transfers! Get a route map; they're free at every station! And be happy the CTA is maintaining its infrastructure! One advantage of this temporary route, that usually only Purple and Brown Line passengers get to enjoy: A beautiful vista of the skyscrapers on either side of the Chicago River, and the bascule bridges across it.

CTA Chicago Blue Line Drama

Some crazy guy refuses to get of the train and continues to fight with CTA personal. This video is extremely funny in a sort of way. I personally think we all make decisions and really should consider are actions. People try to help him and he does not get of the train for nearly ten minutes until the cops came. This is what Chicago CTA is like all the time.

CTA Rapid Transit of Old

You guys who are freaking out about the CTA's "doomsday" service cuts ain't seen nothin'. Compare the faded CTA route map from the '30's to a map from about 1964. Some north and west side lines had stations every TWO BLOCKS. What is now the Skokie Swift (formerly part of the now-gone North Shore Line's Skokie Valley Route) actually had intermediate stations between Howard and Dempster. There was a Humboldt Park El line that branched off west from the old Milwaukee line (now the elevated portion of the O'Hare Blue Line). The Garfield Park el line, which the Congress Blue Line replaced, went west off the Van Buren leg of the Loop, dropped to grade level at Laramie, and went past Desplaines all the way to 22nd and Mannheim (its old route west of Desplaines is roughly the route of the soon-to-be-axed 17 Westchester bus.) Part of the Garfield 'L's route was also used by the defunct Chicago, Aurora and Elgin interurban. On the south side, there was a Stockyards/Kenwood el at roughly 40th St., whose transfer point to downtown was the current Indiana Green Line station. There was also a short branch off the Englewood line south to 69th St. The Jackson Park line went all the way to the edge of the Park at Stony Island before its bridge over the IC tracks was judged to be too dilapidated to repair; the line was eventually cut back to Cottage Grove about 10 years ago. They're all gone now, along with the Isabella station on the Evanston Purple Line. All of these el line, interurban ...

CTA Holiday Train - Dec. 2011 - Connections - Chicago Transit Authority

The CTA Holiday Train began as a two-car train delivering food baskets to charitable organizations and has grown into a seasonal spectacle of lights, laughter and goodwill. Santa Claus is the star of the CTA Holiday train...but it's the galaxy of lights that commands the attention of all who see it pass by. The Holiday Train runs select weekdays and Saturdays, from November 25 through December 22. It travels on all of the CTA's rail lines so everyone gets a chance to say hello to Santa and take part in this holiday tradition...now in its 20th year. The Holiday Train first operated in 1992 as an out-of-service train to deliver food donated by employees to needy families. In 1996, the Holiday Train was used for regularly-scheduled service on the Blue Line. By 2005, the train began operating on the Yellow Line, bringing the Holiday Train service to all CTA rail lines. In 2011, the train will deliver holiday meals to 300 less-fortunate families.

CTA and Pace Bus Insanity at 95th/Dan Ryan Red Line Station

Since the Dan Ryan Expressway's opening, the 95th/Dan Ryan station has been the southernmost end of CTA's Red Line rapid transit. In the near future, plans are to extend it to 130th St in Riverdale/Altgeld Gardens. As the southern terminal, the station is a major bus hub, and at rush hours, service levels and the number of buses pulling in all at once can be quite incredible and crowded! CTA routes N5, N9, 29, 34, 95E, 95W, 100, 103, 106, 108, 111, 112 and 119 all serve the station, as do Pace suburban routes 352, 353, 359, 381 and 395. Greyhound and various charter bus companies also serve the station. Here's some footage including buses on most of those routes. Bus types include CTA New Flyer D40LFs, DE60LFs and NovaBus LFSs, and Pace Orion Vs and NABI low-floor 40-footers. These crowded, tight conditions, a maze of buses, pedestrians and accidents waiting to happen, are all part of a typical weekday rush period here on the South Side at 95th/Dan Ryan.

CTA Yellow Line/Skokie Swift Ride, 02.10.10

Here, I am riding the Chicago Transit Authority's most unusual route, the Yellow Line (also known as the Skokie Swift), from Howard Street on the far north side of Chicago, through a bit of Evanston, and ending at Dempster Street in the suburb of Skokie. The line was completed as part of the Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee interurban railway's high-speed Skokie Valley Route to Milwaukee in 1925, and the Chicago Rapid Transit Company (CTA's predecessor) began using it as far as Dempster from the start. Intermediate stations were at Ridge, Asbury, and Dodge in Evanston, and Crawford-East Prairie, Kostner, Oakton, Main, and Dempster in Niles Center (now Skokie). Along the line, CNS&M's only stop was Dempster, and when CTA abandoned service on the line (then called the Niles Center Branch) in 1948 due to low ridership, the North Shore Line kept using it until it folded in 1963. Starting in 1964, Federal transit funds flowed to the CTA for a demonstration project on the abandoned line, which was rehabbed and re-branded as the Skokie Swift. It now ran as a non-stop shuttle between Howard and Dempster, featuring high speeds and high frequencies, in many ways a forecast of what was to be called light rail some 20 years on. It used the overhead catenary wires of the former North Shore Line, and even today, the nearly 90-year old catenary supports still stand. Designed for suburban commuters, the project catered to the car culture with a park n ride lot, taxi stand, and suburban ...

Moving Ahead on CTA Red Line Projects - Aug-Sept 2011 - Connections - Chicago Transit Authority

There's exciting news to report for CTA Red Line customers. Two projects involving the CTA Red Line have received the necessary funding to move forward: Infrastructure upgrades for the Loyola Station, and funding for the environmental impact statement step of the Red and Purple Modernization Project and the proposed Red Line extension. The CTA joined with US Senator Durbin and Loyola University to announce $10 million in station and infrastructure upgrades at the Red Line Loyola station. The modernization project will, among other things, upgrade north Red and Purple Line stations. The extension project will extend Red Line service from 95th Street south to 130th. This funding will allow the CTA to conduct the environmental impact statement step under the federally mandated five step process that must be completed in order to apply for additional funding.
