Luxton Pro Rodeo Attracts Top Cowboys Thanks to Dedicated Volunteers
www.ctvvancouverisland.ca http LANGFORD -- For 37 years volunteers at Luxton Pro Rodeo have worked hard to build its reputation, and it's working. By providing top notch stock, good prize money and extras such as food and lodging, cowboys and cowgirls mark it on their calendars as a must. Close to two-hundred volunteers work to plan and run the three day rodeo, which features everything from bull riding and barrel racing, to midway rides, and black smith demonstrations. Organizer Bill Bennett says the rodeo makes money, but only because of the tireless work done by people who go unpaid. Saddle Bronc rider Wyatt Thurston is a third generation cowboy from Big Valley, Alberta and says "there's nothing better, it's Canada's oldest extreme sport, and there's nothing I'd rather do." It's a taste of the wild west not often seen on the west coast, and judging by the number of fans in the seats, the allure of the rodeo isn't lost here. Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants: Romo, Manning battle for playoff spot
www.nma.tv The New York Giants face the Dallas Cowboys at the Meadowlands on Sunday for the NFC East title and the opportunity to get their butts kicked in the playoffs by the Green Bay Packers or New Orleans Saints. Both the Cowboys and the Giants are 8-7, which means that the 2011 NFC East champion will have less than 10 wins for the first time since division play started in the NFL. The game pits Cowboys Tony Romo against Giants quarterback Eli Manning. Both QBs have piled up impressive stats over their careers, but Romo has a history of losing big games, while Manning was MVP of Super Bowl Super Bowl XLII when the New York Giants beat the previously undefeated New England Patriots in one of the biggest upsets of football history. Who will win? Next Media Animation's football analysts predict the 'Boys will lose. The Cowboys always seem to find a way to lose when it counts, and Romo is battling an injury.

Leningrad Cowboys & Red Army Choir - SWEET HOME ALABAMA
The Leningrad Cowboys is a Finnish rock and roll band famous for its humorous songs and concerts featuring the Soviet Red Army Choir. Currently, the band has eleven Cowboys and two Leningrad Ladies. The songs, all somewhat influenced by polka and progressive rock, and performed in English, have themes such as 'vodka', 'tractors', 'rockets', and 'Genghis Khan', as well as folkloric Russian songs, rock and roll ballads and covers from bands as diverse as The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Lynyrd Skynyrd, all with lots of humour. ----------------------------------- TheRed Army Choir (Choir Aleksandrov) is a performing ensemble that served as the official army choir of the former Soviet Union's Red Army. The choir consists of a male choir, an orchestra, and a dance ensemble. The songs they perform range from Russian folk tunes to Church hymns, operatic arias and popular music. In 1991, The Red Army Choir participated in Roger Waters' The Wall concert celebrating the fall of the Berlin Wall. They performed an anti-war song "Bring the Boys Back Home". Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Red Army Choir has continued performing, entertaining audiences both inside and outside Russia.
Cowboy
The once-scandalous autobiography of Frank Harris was the source of the fascinating "adult" western Cowboy. Jack Lemmon plays Harris, who when first the audience meets him is a citified desk clerk in a frontier hotel. Harboring romantic notions of the West, Harris prevails upon hard-living, hard-drinking trail boss Tom Reece Glenn Ford to take him along on Reece's next cattle drive. In the months that follow, Harris' idealized notions of the West are cruelly dispelled, though he eventually becomes accustomed to the rough-and-tumble life on the trail and to the curious cameradie between the drovers. The film's most talked-about scene finds a group of cowboys planting a rattlesnake in one of their comrade's blankets as a joke; their regretful but oddly detached reaction when the bitten man dies speaks volumes about the Real West. Also memorable is the performance of Brian Donlevy as Doc Bender, an ageing gunfighter who can't stand the notion of becoming an anachronism. One of the more unorthodox westerns of the 1950s, Cowboy is also one of the best.

Grandmother auditions to be Dallas Cowboys cheerleader
Sharon Simmons, a 55-year old grandmother of two, spent the weekend auditioning for the 2012 Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders. Her tryout was the culmination of a 33-year goal to try out for the famed squad. The Carrollton, Texas, resident wanted to audition for the team when she was 22, but a number of factors -- including a lack of money, outfit, routine and child care -- forced her to give up that dream. Years later, as a grandmother, successful fitness author and burgeoning actor, Simmons tried again. She hired a former Cowboys cheerleader to help her prepare for the audition and said she was ready to compete with women half her age.
