Nine things to remember when you're on Countdown: This video features the funniest and most interesting moments of Australian pop show Countdown, which was aired during the 1970's and 1980's. Here, you'll see footage of Ray Burgess being groped and prodded by the teenage audience. Iggy Pop spitting on and terrifying the Countdown audience. Host Ian 'Molly' Meldrum swearing in front of guest Prince Charles and getting drunk on the show's 100th episode in 1977. Countdown remains a legend in Australian popular culture and has contributed enormously to Australian television's most memorable moments. Countdown was also the first program to give acts like Blondie, the Motels and John Cougar Mellencamp their first taste of mainstream success - before the rest of the world cottoned on to their talent. Blondie made their first ever hit with 'In The Flesh', which reached the Australian Top Ten in 1977. It was Countdown that initially played the 'In The Flesh' video, which consequently gave Blondie their first hit. Same story for Johnny Cougar ('I Need A Lover' was # 1 in Australia in 1978) and the Motels ('Total Control' was an Australian Top Ten hit in 1980)....
