Conflict - Carlo Giuliani
Carlo Giuliani, a 23-year-old Italian activist, poet and anarchist, was killed during the demonstrations against the Group of Eight summit that was held in Genoa from July 19 to July 21, 2001. He was killed on July 20, during a clash between demonstrators and Italian Carabinieri (military police). The police were in a jeep and were engaged in a conflict with protesters; police were lobbing tear gas while demonstrators were throwing stones. Carlo Giuliani was holding a fire extinguisher and some photos[1] suggest that he intended to throw it at the police jeep.Carlo was told(at gunpoint) to put the extinguisher down, which he began to do and was shot in the face, and the rear wheel of the police jeep then ran over his body twice. All charges against the police officer who allegedly shot him (Mario Placanica) have been dropped, the commission of inquiry concluding that the fatal bullet that struck Giuliani was deflected by a stone in mid-air. This conclusion was the subject of strong criticism, as was the decision not to charge the driver of the jeep on the basis that Giulani was already dead when ran over; medics tending to Giulani after he was run over testified that his heart was still beating[2]. Had it been concluded that Placanica shot Giuliani in self-defense, a trial would have been necessary, but the conclusion that the bullet was not fired directly at Giuliani removed the need for any trial. A number of questions about Giuliani's death remain unanswered ...

Mindcrack Ultra Hardcore - S4E03: Conflict
I hope you all enjoy Season 4 of the Mindcrack Ultra Hardcore series. This time we did a 4vs4 match, the original 4 vets versus us 4 new comers to the series. Each team starts on 1 of 2 islands, 800x800 in size, separated from each other by a large distance. In the middle of the 2 islands is another island with 2 victory monuments on it (1 for each team). The 2 islands were supposed to be identical, but afterwards we discovered some inconsistencies. There are 2 ways to win, kill or outlive the other team, or complete your victory monument. The victory monuments require all 16 colors of wool, an iron, gold, and diamond block, a melon, and a brewing stand. Each unique item you collect and place in the victory monument will reward your team with 1 gold ingot. The only way to recover health in this is with golden apples or instant health potions. Golden apples require a 8 gold ingots (instead of nuggets) and an apple to craft. Glistering Melons require 1 gold block (instead of 1 nugget) and a melon. Health does not recover from keeping your hunger bar full. In the Mix is the Emmy award winning PBS documentary series for teens. We follow a group of high school students as they participate in a conflict resolution workshop led by an experienced facilitator and social worker who encourages them develop their own solutions. After each student describes a recent conflict with a friend or family, they explore ways they commonly handle conflicts?avoiding, confronting, or problem solving and communication?finding it is often based on the situation. One student points out that conflict can be an opportunity to strengthen relationships if dealt with properly; however it is difficult. The facilitator then helps them understand basic communication skills, including how to use ?I? messages to open a discussion and what it takes to be a good listener. The students practice these skills, applying them to their recent conflicts. This program is useful to open discussion on conflict resolution and communication. Processes of conflict resolution generally include negotiation, mediation, diplomacy and creative peacebuilding. The term "conflict resolution" is sometimes used interchangeably with the terms dispute resolution or alternative dispute resolution. The processes of arbitration, litigation, and formal complaint processes through an ombudsman, are part of dispute resolution, and therefore they are also part of "conflict resolution."
