Japanese artist Isao Hashimoto has created a beautiful, undeniably scary time-lapse map of the 2053 nuclear explosions which have taken place between 1945 and 1998, beginning with the Manhattan Project's "Trinity" test near Los Alamos and concluding with Pakistan's nuclear tests in May of 1998. This leaves out North Korea's two alleged nuclear tests in this past decade. Hangar Home Complete
Our home sits on a grass runway on the shore of Lake Harney in Florida. The lawn in front of the home is actually the taxiway. Our goal was to take what could have been an ugly facade and make it more "neighbor friendly" and appealing. The other side of the home enters directly into the living areas. On the left side you can just see three small aircraft, two gyroplanes and a powered parachute. Although the door size is larger than needed for these aircraft, when we sell the home it is likely that a person with a full size aircraft would need the door size to accommodate his aircraft. The video "Hangar Home" was this home while it was under construction. To see another amazing hangar home check-out the video "Danville Hangar". The chorus includes members of three choirs: the Philharmonia Chorale, directed by Bruce Lamott, San Francisco Choral Artists, directed by Magen Solomon, and the UC Berkeley Chamber Chorus, directed by Marika Kuzma. The soloists are soprano Lynne Dawson, mezzo-soprano Mary Phillips, tenor Iain Paton, and baritone Andrew Foster-Williams. This is the second version of this video. The first version had the tenor parts transposed by an octave (incorrectly). I apologize for having to remove the first version (and I thank the viewer who pointed out the error). The Art of Fugue or The Art of the Fugue (original German: Die Kunst der Fuge), BWV 1080, is an incomplete masterpiece by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685--1750). The work was most likely started at the beginning of the 1740s, if not earlier. The first known surviving version, which contained 12 fugues and 2 canons, was copied by the composer in 1745. This manuscript has a slightly different title, added afterwards by his son-in-law Johann Christoph Altnickol: Die Kunst der Fuga. Bach's second version was published in 1751 after his death. It contains 14 fugues and 4 canons. 30-40 foot waves ridden in complete darkness
Jaws, MAUI (January 20, 2011)˜This morning at 2:00am local Hawaii time, professional big wave surfer Mark Visser made history by achieving a night ride on waves measuring 30-40 foot faces off the shores of Maui with specially engineered LED lights built into a buoyancy vest and modified into the surfboard. The lighting technologies were created especially for the project by Solus Corporation using ground breaking NASA submarine lighting to ensure the wave and board were lit in the right places, at the right time and illuminated the wave without hindering the vision of Visser, the jet ski drivers and the helicopter pilots. A true world first - no one has attempted to ride and capture big waves at Jaws, Maui before in total darkness quite like this. With the help of his team overhead in a helicopter, Visser was towed in by jet ski as he entered the infamous big wave break just prior to the peak of the swell, completely illuminated.
