Cockatoo Bird Bite

I love my birds. But always remember that large Parrots are wild animals we confine and force to live in our world. This bite was not because of a bad situation or out of anger. It was wild instinct. The bite was MY fault. IT'S ALWAYS THE HUMANS FAULT. Please support your local bird rescue.

Goffin Cockatoo Saying Happy Birthday

This is Precious enjoying a conversation about her birthday! She has a more varied vocabulary, but "Happy Birthday Birthday" is what she says more than anything! This was recorded before her bedtime, a time of day when she will sing, dance, and play intensely for about 15 minutes, a time better known as "The Precious Show." Note - I am aware of the sad state of her wings. She is no longer under the care of that person and her wings have since returned fully. She now happily lives with her second flock that consists of me and 3 other birds. She continues to tell me all about her birthday birthday birthday.

~*~ Moluccan Cockatoo, Boyd who Enjoyed telling Mommy a Long Story

Boyd passed away 1/14/2012. It was so hard on me to lose him. I love you Boyd. RIP Boyd was rescued from a meth dealer. He was very abused and neglected for several years. He was used as payment for a persons drug habit. He was kept in a 2'x2' cage with no toys just a small piece of rebar to perch on and only fed bread and water when the dealer would remember to feed him. When he became to loud the dealer would either place him in a dark closet or out in the garage. To say the least Boyd is very special to my family. We share many special momments with Boyd. We are working with him to show him he can trust humans and we are not all mean. My husband and I have formed a very special bond with Boyd. He enjoys going for walks, spending time at the park playing with the the kids, family outings to the pet store and home depot. Boyd has a love in his heart that is just unreal...

Help save Black Cockatoos!

During the Parrot International Symposium Rosemary Low showed us this remarkable video of a an Australian couple, David and Deidre Patterson, who are working hard to save two distinct subspecies of black cockatoos from going extinct. In the video they tell about the importance of the area next to their property, Helms block, for the black cockatoos, which is a key area for food and nesting sites and its survival is imperative for the release of the cockatoos that they rehabilitate. We were alarmed to learn that the moratorium on logging this area made in 2001 has been overturned. We understand that, if this goes ahead, a valuable area of native forest will be rendered unusable as a food source for these cockatoos, thus further imperilling the two species of White-tailed Black Cockatoos and the sub-species naso of the Red-tail. It would also mean that the Pattersons would be unable to release a flock of rehabilitated Baudin's Cockatoos as planned for the coming October, when marri nuts would have been available for these birds in the forest. You can help prevent this severe oversight of the Australian government by sending a postcard to David Templeman, Australia's Minister for the Environment, expressing your concern on the fate of Helms block and the future of the magnificent black cockatoos there. You might write something like: Dear David Templeman, I like to express my concern in the governments plan to allow Helm block to be logged and burned. This forest is vital ...

Cockatoo makes four-legged friend by feeding dog NOODLES; Bird Feeds Dog Noodles

Source: xxImmortalDreamerxx Cockatoo makes four-legged friend by feeding dog NOODLES; Bird Feeds Dog Noodles, Maybe he thought they were worms. This bird made an unlikely four-legged friend after feeding a dog noodles from the kitchen counter top. The pair have a Lady and the Tramp moment as the cockatoo bobs his way toward his furry companion to share a string of spaghetti. At one point, it even appears as though the bird dips the noodles sauce sitting nearby, and feeds it to the dog as if he were a youngling. A spectator had a camera on hand to record the bizarre meal for a video that is now sweeping the web. 'Bird Feeds Dog Noodles', uploaded by YouTube user xxImmortalDreamerxx has earned over 150000 views since it was uploaded on December 18.

Queen of Bavaria (Golden) Conure at Golden Cockatoo

The Queen of Bavaria Conures are not only a CITES 1 endangered species, but also they are beautiful, friendly, and love to play. But you need to be a Florida resident (or get a special federal permit) to be able to purchase one from us. There is a Federal law that prohibits inter-state commerce of this species, so, you would need to find one in your own state. It is possible to get a permit to buy this species, but I have never heard of one actually being issued.

Umbrella Cockatoo, NANA, SCREAMING!

SO YOU WANT A COCKATOO??? LISTEN CAREFULLY... THIS IS WHAT AN UPSET COCKATOO SOUNDS LIKE... (and we don't know WHAT she was so upset about!) DESCRIPTION: We adopted Nana (aka Fred) in 2005 after she was given up by her previous owners. She is a sweet and cuddly, albeit very spunky, young Umbrella Cockatoo who is currently struggling with reproductive hormonal urges that are terribly frustrating to her (and us). They include nest building behavior (eg compulsive paper shredding) and the kind of vocalization your hear in this video. She is a VERY upset bird in this video and it took a while to calm her down (SEE "NANA CUDDLING" VIDEO). A cockatoo screaming at the top of its lungs will stop ANY conversation and drown out everything else -- the news was running on the TV in the background. With 4 Parrots, we record everything we want to watch onto a DVR... To find out more about COCKATOOS, their screaming abilities and to learn WHY so many of them wind up in RESCUES, please visit: www.mytoos.com AND www.parrotsperch.com Also, please read: "WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO RESCUE A PARROT" by Anne Feldhacker: wellvet.com And CHECK OUT some of the BIRD RESCUE VIDEOS under "MY FAVORITES" -- they ALL need YOUR HELP! And PLEASE...'DON'T BUY, DON'T BREED...ADOPT A PARROT IN NEED!' RECORDING METHOD: Flip Video Ultra Camcorder

Talking to a Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo

I try to convince a sulphur-crested cockatoo not to eat my garden plants in the mornings. Him and his mates have become very destructive of late, ripping up and chomping all my succulents and geraniums. Years ago the locals fed them and cockies have *long* memories! I guess they are getting me back for not feeding them.

COOKIE the Cockatoo

Cookie is a Goffin Cockatoo which is a smaller version of an umbrella cockatoo. We had her 2 years ago and just recently got her back. I'm very glad that she is a part of our family again.
