Cichlid Parents vs. Terrapin
With cichlid eggs on the menu, this terrapin is ready to throw his weight around. These cichlid parents might be outweighed, but they're not outmatched — and they're about to show the interloper who's boss.

How to make Cichlid food | African Cichlid home made food | Recipe 2
Generally commercial cichlid foods will be labeled as premium, color enhancing, or gold formula. While it sounds promising, in my experience these are just marketing schemes. Commercial foods are more then likely stretched using corn, wheat, soy, potatoes and so forth, with little, if any nutritional value. It is unfortunate because Cichlids can only digest select plant proteins such as algae, aquatic plants and some leafy greens, cichlids generally can't digest or hangle all plant proteins. So by adding fillers or stretchers like potatoes or corn, your cichlids are eating more to get the nutrients they need, in turn excreting more waste into you tank. Some things that I wouldnt even eat let alone feed to my fish are often times found in your commercial food, Manganese Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Zinc Sulfate, Ferrous Chloride, Cobalt Sulfate, Aluminum Sulfate and loads of artificial coloring and preservatives! Might as well be feeding them Mcdonalds. Did you know -Sulfates, Chlorides, Copper and Aluminum have all been proven toxic to aquatic life. Now why would it be in their food? -Anywhere from 5%-40% Ash, yes ASH (burnt food and animal left overs) can be found in even the high end foods! Why? Fillers, cheap fillers to ensure you get more and the company spends less. The Proof is in my tank, you all see my fish, and the colors they exude, may I remind you that 90% of them are still in a juvenile stage as well. The reason they have vibrant color, is fresh food loaded with ...

Marineland 46 Gallon Bow Front Aquarium Eheim 2217 Aquaclear 110 Argonite Sand Crushed Coral Sand Stone Rocks Artificial Plants Fish: 2 Kenyi Female, 1 yellow lab male, Cobalt Blue Zebra male, Red Shoulder Hap male, Cory Cat. This tank has finally established a consistent bacterial populace, steady pH of 7.8, 78-80 degree temp. Ammonia, Nitrate, and Nitrite levels are little to non existent. Hope you enjoy:) Will dub over with music as soon as I can. Any questions feel free to message me. Please Comment. Sorry if audioswap is fail and it makes the dl slow:( NOTE: The base rocks are both buried 3-5 inches in the sand and have a universal mount to which they are connected beneath the crushed shell and argonite using an aquarium/fish safe adhesive. Not only did they never collapse; but it was almost impossible to remove them once the aquarium was inhabited. And yes the top rocks laying perpendicular to the vertical stone are merely resting in place because of their immense weight. There was never once a collapse during this aquarium's lifetime: 2.5 yrs until I graduated. They have a new 200 gallon home and are doing just fine. I do not own nor do I pretend to own the rights to the the song providing the audio for this video; it was merely a generic sample made available by youtube during the video editing process. South American Dwarf Cichlids
Video explaining the needs and methods of care for dwarf cichlids from South America. The fish in this video are much smaller than many of the cichlids commonly kept in tropical fish tanks and most species of South American dwarf cichlids will not exceed 9cm (males). Cichlids below 10cm are generally considered to be dwarf varieties. Although dwarf cichlids are found in a variety of habitats throughout South America, generally speaking most will prefer pH below 7 and soft water to show best colouration and be most content. Bogwood, peat balls, almond leaves, oak leaves and alder cones are natural ways to reduce the pH and soften water in a home aquarium. All of these natural treatments may stain the water a light brown, which adds to the authentic look of an 'Amazon tank'. Most of the South American dwarf cichlids will use caves to breed in but some (including blue ram) are classed as 'open spawners' and prefer to lay their eggs on curled up leaves eg almond or oak in an aquarium. Almond and oak leaves have natural anti fungal and anti bacterial properties which leach out into the water, protecting the eggs and help to acheive a better hatch rate. A good dwarf cichlid aquarium set-up would generally include a sand substrate, bogwood and plants. Natural tankmates include corydoras, tetra species, small plec species (and angelfish or discus in a large tank). Whilst generally very peaceful fish, all dwarf cichlids will defend their eggs and fry from other tankmates so it is ...
530L African Cichlid Malawi/Mbuna Tank
Tank: Akvastabil Effect-Line 530L. Dimensions are 1600mm (L) X 550mm (W) X 600mm (D) Once I account for the 12mm thick glass, the fact that I don't fill the tank to the top, the 40kg of crushed coral sand and approx 60kg of rock and a foam 3D background, I estimate the true tank volume to be in between 390-410 Litres. Filtration is via a Fluval FX5 Canister. Top tray is packed with a bag of crushed coral, middle tray is Seachem Matrix & Purigen and the bottom basket is packed with SeaChem Matrix also. Lighting: Dymax T5 HO. 1 X White, 1 X Blue Heating: 2 X Fluval Tronic 300W 15-20% water changes are done weekly. I pre heat and pre-treat the water with SeaChem Prime, SeaChem Rift Lake Conditioner & SeaChem Malawi Buffer. Temperature is stable at 27 degrees. pH is stable at 8.2 Ammonnia, Nitrite and Nitrate are all under control. GH is about 8-9dKH (143.2 - 161 ppm) KH is 12 dKH (214.8 ppm) Current Stock: 4 X Metriaclima estherae (Red Zebra) 2 X Pseudotropheus Zebra 2 X Labidochromis sp. "Hongi" 2 X Sciaenochromis fryeri (Electric Blue) 1 X Nimbochromis venustus 1 X Cyphotilapia sp Burundi Frontosa 1 X Astatotilapia latifasciata Total Fish Currently: 13 Fish are all happy and healthy and showing growth. Before everyone pissess and moans, I am well aware that the Frontosa is a Tang and the latifasciata is a Victoria Basin and are generally not kept together with the Malawi. However these two have been in this tank for over 2 years and have been more than fine. They get along ...

African Cichlid Peacock Tank
These are my Aulonocara African Cichlid Peacocks fish they originate from the Lake Malawi in East Africa. 1/2 of these I ordered online which are the smallest ones as part of 15 African Cichlid Peacocks assortment package. So still trying to figure out which ones I have. I am sure I will know once they get bigger. The fish aquarium tank is 60 gallons. I feed them mostly Spirulina flakes and as treats brine shrimp, blood worms and Omega One super color cichlid pellets. Just ordered some New Life Spectrum. New 60 gallon Malawi mbuna cichlid aquarium
Just a short video of my new 60 gallon mbuna tank, focusing on the latest introductions, a group of suspected Labidochromis sp. "Hongi" purchased from a bigbox pet store under the label Cynotilapia afra. The tank is 48"x12" and 24" tall and currently has an Eheim 2213 canister filter and an Aquaclear 70 hang-on-back filter. Lighting is two standard 24" fluorescents and a homemade add-on of ~48" of remote-controlled 5050 RGB strips. The bubble wall needs to be replaced with a smaller one (currently a 48" that is bent out of the way to avoid the filter intakes, will be replaced with a 24-36") and I plan to add a Hydro sponge filter with an additional air line. Furnished with plastic egg-grating for support, 15lbs crushed coral and ~25lbs play sand, ~60lbs of lace rock as well as ~15lbs of local river rock. Tank was cycled with filter media and fish from an established tank for about 4 weeks, acei introduced ~5weeks ago, yellow labs ~3weeks ago and Hongi ~1week ago.
75 Gallon - Mixed African Cichlid Aquarium
its been quite a while since my last video, and last night I finally got my new camera! I'm sorry that this video is so short, I really don't know how to use this new camera yet, but I just had to get something up to let all of you know that more vids will be coming once again! As you can see, almost EVERYTHING has changed since my last vid. I converted this tank into an african cichlid tank with mostly mbuna species and a few peacocks. However, you still see the firmilair faces of the blood parrot cichlid and my female firemouth cichlid...i know they shouldn't really be with the africans but i just couldnt let them go. Everyone in the house loves those two and they're probably the oldest fish in the tank, and so far they are having no problems with the africans! The PH in the water is currently at 8.0 which is great for the africans, but not so high that the non-africans can't handle it. Everyone has adapted well and I havn't any disease or sick fish! The filtration system is still the same as always, which is Two Marineland Emperor 400 Bio-wheels power filters. In totaly, they filter 800 gallons per hour, and i do weekly water changes and gravel vacs. the stocking list is as follows: AFRICAN MALAWI -2 Aulonocara Peacock cichlids -9 Yellow Labs (labidochromis caeruleus) -3 Cobalt Blue Cichlids (metriaclima callianos) -1 Melanochromis Interruptus -1 Albino Socolofi Cichlid (pseudotropheus socolofi) -1 Albino Zebra cichlid (metriaclima estherae) -1 Yellow Tail Acei ...

Malawi Cichlid Tank 150 gallon/600 liter
My custom built aquarium designed on Lake Malawi. Its a 600liter aquarium; L-150cm; W-60cm; H- 80cm. (I know it's short but I wanted the 'flatscreen TV' look) Filter: Eheim 2250 canister. It works well and is relatively easy to clean as long as you can access the back of the tank easily. I also do 10% water changes weekly, I have had no problems with algae, which is a relief. Bryan's 125 Malowi Cichlid Tank DIY Background
Recorded on April 18, 2012 using a Flip Video camcorder.
210 Gallon African Cichlid Aquarium
Tank started up about 6 months ago. Moved the cichlids out of their 110 gallon home to one with a bit more real estate. Aqua-Terra Malawi background and mostly river stone for the decor. Coral rock used as pH buffer, hidden behind background. Rear of the background used as a biological filter by placing media and allowing water jets to force water through it - no cleaning issues (YET). 3 power heads and 2 canister filters for water flow. Fish (I've lost track, but here's what I remember): 11 Scribbled Msobo 4 Demasoni 1 Tropheus douboisi 1 Tropheus moori 6 Lamprologus 6 Julidochromis ornatus 1 Julidochromis martieri 1 Pseudo elongatus 6 Yellow tail Aeci 1 Hap. Venustus 4 Ruby barbs 1 Rainbow Shark 1 Black Shark 1 Gold Chinese Algae eater A whole bunch of mixed zebras (10 or so) and a lot of fry who have recently made themselves visible. Can't remember the names of the others african I've got... Little help? Note: strange mix between my Tropheus Moori and a Taiwan Reef I used to have is getting bigger and looking stranger as the weeks go buy... Didn't think those two could ever breed...
North & Central American Cichlids in the Display Aquarium, Vieja maculicauda (episode 3)
This is my Vieja maculicauda pair (Blackbelt cichlid), Rio Zapote population. I had a small group of six fish from only 1 inch in size, these are a pair from the group. This is a very nice population that displays quite a lot of red colour in the unpaired fins.
