Syrian Soldier Explains Why He Defected
After being told to dress as anti-terrorist forces and issued with weapons and live ammunition, this soldier was one of 250 troops send to Harasta in Damascus on Saturday 23 April 2011 to combat what they were told were armed gangs of terrorists. On arrival, he and some of his friends were at first confused then horrifed to find they were confronting unarmed civilians including women and chilkdren, and that in spite of this, the commanding officer issued order to fire using live ammunition. This man and 4 of his fellow soldiers threw down their weapons and surrendered to the unarmed civilian protesters, who took them to a place of safety. One of this group was wounded, receiving a bullet wound to the shoulder, after their battalion opened fire on them and the protesters. Now he wishes to appeal to all members of the armed forces to remember their oath and protect the lives of the people of Syria, especially defenceless women and children, and not to open fire on them even under orders.

Mom Punched 11-Year-Old Son in Stomach
Arizona police officers arrested a mother after she reportedly told police she didn't want her children any longer. Police in the Phoenix suburb of Surprise say they received a 911 call Friday from an 11-year-old boy who said his mother was packing and moving to California and wasn't taking him or his 6-year-old brother with her. Police spokesman Sgt. Mark Ortega said the boy's mother, Christina Muniz, 29, came out and told officers that she was "sick of her children" and wanted the police to take them so she can "have fun and play." Officers said they then contacted Child Protective Services. Police said Muniz continued to be verbally abusive to the children in the presence of CPS and police. As the children were being removed by CPS, officers said the 11-year-old attempted to hug his mother, and was met with a punch to the abdomen. Muniz was arrested and charged with child neglect, felony aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia.
