Joshua Light Show presents Fulldome at the Museum June 3-5

For three nights only, New York's legendary Joshua Light Show will present Fulldome, an eye-popping, 360-degree work of light and sound that explores the neurological phenomenon synesthesia, or the blending of sensory experiences, in the American Museum of Natural History's Hayden Planetarium. The program will begin with an after-hours visit to the exhibition Brain: The Inside Story, which explores how the brain interprets light and sound. Then, visitors will enjoy a multi-sensory experience in the Hayden Planetarium's Space Theater. Led by multimedia artist Joshua White, Joshua Light Show is noted for creating the hallucinatory visuals behind the psychedelic rock bands of the late 1960s—including The Who and The Grateful Dead—at the Fillmore East. This new performance combines the show's classic analog effects— including the 'liquid light' for which it is best known—with contemporary digital approaches to tease the limits of our sensing brains. Joshua Light Show will push the limits of the Hayden Planetarium dome to immerse the audience in an incomparable, extra-sensory experience. The light show will be performed live by Joshua White. Video projections will feature his current team of artists, including Ana Matronic of Scissor Sisters, Alyson Denny, Seth Kirby, Brock Monroe, Doug Pope, Bec Stupak, and noted illustrator Gary Panter. An original soundtrack designed specifically for the show features contributions from percussion artists Laraaji and Z'EV mixed with cosmic ...

How big is the Universe?

"Human history can be viewed as a slowly dawning awareness that we are members of a larger group. Initially our loyalties were to ourselves and our immediate family, next, to bands of wandering hunter-gatherers, then to tribes, small settlements, city-states, nations. We have broadened the circle of those we love. If we are to survive, our loyalties must be broadened further, to include the whole human community, the entire planet Earth. Many of those who run the nations will find this idea unpleasant. They will fear the loss of power. We will hear much about treason and disloyalty. Rich nation-states will have to share their wealth with poor ones. But the choice, as HG Wells once said in a different context, is clearly the universe or nothing." - Carl Sagan The Known Universe takes viewers from the Himalayas through our atmosphere and the inky black of space to the afterglow of the Big Bang. Reid Stowe & Carter Emmard 02-08-11 Originally air date

William Reid Stowe (born January 6, 1952) is an American artist and mariner, and the remaining participant of 1000 Days at Sea: The Mars Ocean Odyssey, a one thousand-day voyage which commenced on April 21, 2007 from Pier 12, Hoboken, New Jersey.[1] The mission had the aim of remaining in the open ocean, outside of contact with supporting ports, for a period of one thousand days. This voyage involves active management of a sailboat under varying weather conditions, and with continuous wear and tear of equipment on the schooner. Stowe is the head of the expedition and the principal designer and builder of the Anne, the 70 ft. (21.3 metres (70 ft) ) 60 ton (54400 kg) gaff-rigged schooner which Stowe is sailing on the voyage.[1][2][3] Soanya Ahmad, Stowe's girlfriend, a sailing novice with no offshore experience had been the first mate and the other principal participant in the voyage. She departed the vessel near Perth, Australia on February 22, 2008, after a call was made to the Royal Perth Yacht Club seeking assistance for the "gravely ill" Ahmad. Subsequently, Soanya was diagnosed with 'morning-sickness' and has since given birth to a son named Darshen.[4] On June 17, 2010, Reid Stowe sailed the schooner Anne up the Hudson River and docked in New York. The total voyage was 1152 days, an unconfirmed record for the longest continuous sea voyage without resupply or stepping on land. Upon landing at Pier 81 in Manhattan, he was met by family and friends, by his girlfriend ...

DYNAMIC EARTH... 1080p Trailer for our new fulldome planetarium show

Watch this and other space videos at SpaceRip.com DYNAMIC EARTH, our 24-minute ultra high resolution fulldome production, opens on April 27th at the National Air & Space Museum in Washington, DC. It's narrated by the actor Liam Neeson. The show explores the inner workings of Earth's climate system. With visualizations based on satellite monitoring data and advanced supercomputer simulations, this cutting-edge production follows a trail of energy that flows from the Sun into the interlocking systems that shape our climate the atmosphere, oceans, and the biosphere. Audiences will ride along on swirling ocean and wind currents, dive into the heart of a monster hurricane, come face-to-face with sharks and gigantic whales, and fly into roiling volcanoes. Dynamic Earth explores concepts and terms essential to understanding the climate: · The relationship of Earth and the Sun. The Earth is close enough to the Sun to bask in its warmth, thanks to a series of natural defenses, including its magnetic field. · Life and the carbon cycle. Earth's climate control system depends on the ability of living organisms to remove CO2 from the atmosphere and store it long term. · Plate tectonics and its role in the carbon cycle. Audiences will learn that CO2 emissions from human activities now outpace volcanoes 200 fold. · Comparision with Venus. The story of our sister planet shows just how unique Earth is in its ability to regulate atmospheric CO2 and global temperatures. · Perspective on ...

Curiosity of Gale Crater

This video shows the intended landing site of NASA's Curiosity Rover; Gale crater, 145 km across, or about the width of Connecticut. We approach Mars seeing the Merged Color Mosaic global map from the Viking mission imagery, fading to a higher resolution infrared map from the THEMIS camera on the Mars Odyssey Mission, and finally to higher resolution strips from the Mars Orbiter Camera from the Mars Global Surveyor mission. Gale crater sits on the border of the Mars Dichotomy, between the ancient cratered highlands to the south, and the lower, smoother volcanic planes to the north. As we can see, the central region inside Gale crater is highly layered and weathering has exposed these layers which contain a rich stratigraphic history which hopefully Curiosity rover will get to investigate. The Mars global color map comes from Arizona State University (www.mars.asu.edu/data/mdim_color/) and from the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory's On Mars web map server (onmars.jpl.nasa.gov). This video was recorded from a live flight through the American Museum of Natural History's (AMNH) Digital Universe (haydenplanetarium.org/univerese) as visualized by the planetarium software called Uniview, from the Swedish company, SCISS AB (scalingtheuniverse.com). Uniview allows interactive flights through the Digital Universe, solar system, and to all charted planets, in domes or on single screens and can be networked simultaneously across the globe.

Oppenheimer Producer: Michael Hoffman Executive Producer: Ro Kinzler Co-Executive Producer: Martin Brauen Manager, Digital Universe Atlas: Brian Abbott Music: Suke Cerulo Fuentes: es.wikipedia.org http

David McConville improved - Originally aired 12-16-11

David McConville is the President of the Buckminster Fuller Institute and co-founder of The Elumenati, a design and engineering firm that creates custom installations for clients from art festivals to space agencies. In this capacity, he also serves as creative director of the Worldviews Network, a NOAA-funded collaboration of scientists, artists, and educators at science centers across the United States re-imagining the big picture of humanity's home in the cosmos. ...... Wer are the 100%. Integrity, to Buckminster Fuller, represented the degree to which any design or system actively enhances the regenerative processes that support life on Earth. Thirty years ago, he wrote the cautionary tale Grunch of Giants to warn of the immediate dangers posed by the lack of integrity within the "invisible, abstract, and completely ruthless" empire of corporations that control the world's finances. Dubbing this corrupt system the Gross Universal Cash Heist (GRUNCH), he argued that, as a non-living entity, it was incapable of recognizing how its legal mandate to maximize monetary gains by socializing risks and privatizing profits were in direct opposition to the long-term requirements for human survival. The expanding occupations and protests around the world directed towards the global economic system testify to the prescience of Fuller's critique concerning the lack of integrity within manufactured scarcity. The myriad of issues driving unrest reflects a rising awareness that the ...

Austin Space Day on YNN

Austin Space Day Coverage, YNN The final shuttle mission is beyond us, but tomorrow's scientists are already looking to the future in space. The Austin Planetarium hosted Austin Space Day Saturday. Kids learned how to make space-age paper airplanes with rings and a straw. Five-year-old Orion Rhoades was one of the lucky kids who learned how to make one of the 21st century paper planes. Orion's father Matthew Rhoades said his son became fascinated with stars and outer space after learning he was named after a constellation. "It's really neat to be able to share that with him and kind of instill that curiosity in him," he said. Other kids Orion's age ran across a mixture of corn starch and water and tried to keep their feet dry. "When you are gentle with it, it acts like a liquid," volunteer Judith Reis said. "If you're tough, it resists you like a solid." Beyond the hands-on demonstrations and constellation cutouts, visitors had the chance to learn about space missions and hear from astronaut Rick Linnehan. He has made six space walks during his four shuttle missions. "It's not over," Linnehan said. "We have American astronauts up there, and we will have American astronauts up there for the duration of the space station program." Linnehan says the next generation of US manned spacecraft will return within the next five years either through government or commercial backing, if not both. To prepare for the second era of space travel, the accomplished astronaut encourages ...
