Defending Cantonese dialect and identity in Hong Kong
Hundreds of people have staged a protest in Hong Kong against what they claim is a bid to replace the widely-used Cantonese with Mandarin, China's national language. Protesters say protecting the dialect is crucial to the survival of Cantonese culture. Cantonese is one of 14 Chinese dialects and the third most popular with over 70 million speakers. Other dialects include Wu, Min and Hakka. Cantonese is used officially in Hong Kong and Macau, alongside Mandarin, which has 1.3 billion speakers. Al Jazeera's Rob McBride reports. (Aug 02, 2010)

Vietnamese vs Cantonese
VIDEO EXPLANTION The reason I made this video is because the majority of Vietnamese and Cantonese people get very offended when people mistaken the language for one another or think they are the same. Im making this video for people to hear both these languages ======================================== I got a general idea from some people in forum's, blog's and video's that both these languages are closer in grammer, structure and pronouncation then compared to other Chinese dialects such as Hokkien, Hainanese Taishanese, Teochew, Hunanese, Mandarin, Hakka and other Asian languages such as Thai , Japanese , Lao, Mongolian , Khmer Tagalog ,Malay, Tibetan, Korean , Burmese, Hindi, Tamil, Indonesian and Hmong I dont think they sound nothing alike maybe a few words which is the grammer but the pronouncation is totally different ======================================== A monosyllabic language is a language in which most words predominantly consist of a single syllable. Monosyllabic languages are often tonal languages; due to the use of tones, the number of available monosyllables is significantly more than in non-tonal languages, making shorter words more practical. Examples include Vietnamese language and Old Chinese. Modern Chinese languages, ======================================== In general, African American (Black) , Caucasian (White) people from North America and Europe think all asians look alike therefore all asian anguages sound the same Now Im not stereotyping all ...

Cantonese Kitchen -Chinese cooking- Chee Cheong Fun (rice noodle rolls) steamed in a wok
My grandmother, a master at Chinese cooking, making chee cheong fun (rice noodle rolls) with shrimp, sausage, eggs and onion. Ingredients- 1 - rice flour* 2 - water 3 - ha mai (really small dried shrimp)*, soaked in water until soft 4 - laap churng (pre-cooked Chinese sausage)*, cut into small pieces 5 - scrambled eggs, cut into small pieces 6 - green onion, cut into small pieces 7 - cooking spray or vegetable oil *available at Asian grocers ------------ Combine the first 6 ingredients in a bowl. For every cup of flour, use 2 c. water. Get about 5 aluminum pans and lightly coat with cooking spray or vegetable oil. Prepare a wok by bringing water to a boil. I think this batch yielded 25-30 noodle rolls.

Swim to Survive - 3 min. version - Cantonese
Swim to Survive is a Lifesaving Society survival training program. The Society defines the minimum skills needed by all Canadians to survive an unexpected fall into deep water. These are expressed in a skill sequence in the Canadian Swim to Survive Standard: ROLL into deep water - TREAD water (1 minute) - SWIM 50 metres. Swim to Survive is different than swimming lessons, and not a replacement for them. Swim to Survive teaches just the essentials needed to survive an unexpected fall into deep water, an important first step to being safe around water. The Lifesaving Society strongly encourages parents to enroll their children in swimming lessons. The Lifesaving Society is a full-service provider of programs, products and services designed to prevent drowning. We save lives and prevent water-related injury through our training programs, Water Smart® public education, drowning research, aquatic safety management and lifesaving sport.

Cantonese Lesson - Common Mispronunciations in Cantonese - by tkviper
Below is pretty much what I said in the video. Hope this helps you sound more native. Please rate, comment, and subscribe. Thanks. Common mispronunciations of Cantonese. This tutorial will help you avoid sounding like a foreigner fresh of the boat. #1 The ch sound. There is no ch sounds in Cantonese. But many books continue to use it. Why? Main reason, it's the closest sound to the cantonese ts sound. And since hardly any words begin in ts in English...The authors of those books probably thought it would be too hard for foreigners to read. For example, If you see the word vegetable or in Cantonese choy spelled choy, you would easily and quicly pronounce it choy. On the other hand, spelling it tsoy would make most of you stop to think a while. Please look at my mouth now and notice the difference when I say the 2 sounds that often confused as one. ch as in church sound like ch and your mouth shapes itself like a circle protruding forward. so choy sounds like choy.. Now watch my mouth as I say it with a ts instead. Notice my mouth is much more relaxed. tsoy Now side by side. ch and ts choy tsoy Here are a few more example of ch words that are really pronounced ts. 1. a car is tse not che. tse and che. Che is not how you say car in Cantonese 2. a fork is tsaah, not chaah. 3. to cut something is tseet, not cheet. Combined with the word Daan Go, meaning cake. Cheet daan go would crack up most Cantonese people. Instead you should say tseet daan go, not cheet daan go. 4. To ...
