Brinks Truck Crash Spills Millions Of Canadian Coins On Highway.The wreck happened when a Brinks truck struck a rock outcropping near Kirkland Lake. Much like the Titanic, the rock ripped open the side of the truck, spilling an estimated $5 million in Canadian coins onto the highway in an ankle-deep array. As one constable poetically put it, the crash scene was like "walking on a carpet of loonies and toonies." The coins had come from the Canadian Mint and were headed for circulation.The driver of the truck and a passenger were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. The wreck set off a chain reaction that involved a minivan and two other tractor-trailers. One of the tractor-trailers was carrying candy, and that too spilled atop the coins. But don't go heading up to the Great White North ready to stuff your pockets with coins and candy. Local police will be stationed at the crash site until cleanup is completed to discourage sticky-fingered passerby.

It was 1942 and the USS Truxton was en route to a war-torn Europe. Among the crew was an African American sailor, Lanier Phillips, who joined the navy to escape the Deep South. When disaster struck off Canada's east coast, what followed changed his life. When the residents of St. Lawrence, Newfoundland reached out to Lanier Phillips with kindness, they changed his view of humanity and inspired him to greatness. Paul Johnson has this story.

This video was taken by the crew of Expedition 30 on board the International Space Station. The sequence of shots was taken January 29, 2012 from 10:18:13 to 10:31:28 GMT, on a pass from the North Pacific Ocean, approximately 1000 miles west of California, to western Quebec. This video begins as the ISS is passing over the dark waters of the North Pacific Ocean northeast towards Vancouver Island. The Aurora Borealis can be seen far north, where both the under side and top of the aurora are visible. The pass continues over Canada until the sun begins to come up in the east while over Quebec. Video of mad Canada riots: Vancouver fans run amok, set cars on fire
Angry, drunken revellers ran wild on Wednesday night after the Vancouver Canucks' 4-0 loss to Boston in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals, setting cars and garbage cans ablaze, smashing windows, showering giant TV screens with beer bottles and dancing atop overturned vehicles. Later, looters smashed windows and ran inside department stores. There were no immediate indications of injuries, although images were shown on television of at least one woman mopping blood from her forehead. Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson praised the police and firefighters and asked people to stay away from the central downtown area. Tear gas mingled with the stench of acrid smoke and stale beer as riot police, truncheons drawn, moved in to quell the violence, pushing crowds away from the burning cars. Later, police cars also were set on fire.

Transgender Miss Universe Canada contestant Jenna Talackova disqualified
www.nma.tv Jenna Talackova, a 23-year-old model from Vancouver, has been disqualified from the Miss Universe Canada pageant because she is transgender. Talackova had been selected as a finalist in the competition but was abruptly dropped when organizers learned she was born a man. The rules are said to stipulate that all entrants be "naturally born female[s]," however the only requirements listed on the official Miss Universe Canada website have to do with citizenship and age. Open about her lifestyle, Talackova revealed in a 2010 interview that she had a gender reassignment procedure at age 19 and knew she was meant to be a woman when she was only 4 years old. Supporters who say Talackova should be reinstated have drawn up an online petition to Donald Trump, who owns the global family of Miss Universe pageants as well as the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA competitions.
Students tear-gassed in clashes with police in Canada
In Canada, riot police used tear gas and stun grenades to disperse hundreds of students protesting outside a government building in central Montreal. At least two demonstrators and two officers were injured in the violence and seventeen people were arrested. Students are angry at a planned 75 percent rise in tuition fees. They've been demonstrating almost daily since declaring a boycott on classes over two months ago, with the government refusing to back down. Citizen journalist Bernard Desgagne says that the situation is getting more violent and that the police reaction towards protesters is too brutal.
