Campbeltown weathers the storm, Dec 8 2011

The felt covering the spire of Campbeltown's historic town hall was ripped loose by the high winds and flapping around, sending pieces of debris to the ground and promting police to close a section of the street for public safety. Power also went off in the town in the afternoon.

Andy Stewart Campbeltown Loch.

www.youtube.com Campbeltown Loch (Scottish Gaelic: Loch Chille Chiarain) is a small sea loch near the south of the Kintyre Peninsula facing eastwards towards the Firth of Clyde. The town of Campbeltown, from which it takes its name, is located at its head. The island of Davaar is located in the loch, and can be reach by foot along a natural shingle causeway at low tide. Oddly, while in English the Loch takes its name from Campbeltown, in Gaelic, Campbeltown takes its name from the loch - "Ceann Loch Chille Chiarain". Oh! Campbeltown Loch, Ah wish ye were whisky! Campbeltown Loch, Och Aye! Campbeltown Loch, I wish ye were whisky! Ah wid drink ye dry. Now Campbeltown Loch is a beautiful place, But the price of the whisky is grim. How nice it would be if the whisky was free And the Loch was filled up to the brim. Oh! Campbeltown Loch, Ah wish ye were whisky! Campbeltown Loch, Och Aye! Campbeltown Loch, I wish ye were whisky! Ah wid drink ye dry. I'd buy a yacht with the money I've got And I'd anchor it out in the bay. If I wanted a nip I'd go in for a dip I'd be swimmin' by night and by day. Oh! Campbeltown Loch, Ah wish ye were whisky! Campbeltown Loch, Och Aye! Campbeltown Loch, I wish ye were whisky! Ah wid drink ye dry. We'd have a gathering of the clans They'd come from near and far I can see them grin as they're wading in And shouting "Slàinte mhòr!". Oh! Campbeltown Loch, Ah wish ye were whisky! Campbeltown Loch, Och Aye! Campbeltown Loch, I wish ye were whisky! Ah ...

22/32 Crinan to Campbeltown. Shark Bay sets off towards Ireland...but the outlook is still not good

www.boat-zone.com With poor weather still forecast Shark Bay leaves the calm of the Crinan Canal behind and heads west towards Portree - the first place to ever record deaths from sharks! They overnight in Campbeltown but then have to don the wet weather gear again as they pass spectacular scenery and progress westwards when, at last, the weather begins to open out. Portrush is their first landfall in the emerald isle. Sponsored by leading boat insurance specialists Haven Knox-Johnston (www.boatinsure.co.uk), The Great Motorboat Tour is the weekly video diaries of two men in a boat and their attempt to circumnavigate the British Isles. Film-maker John Boyle and cameraman Fionn Crow Howieson set off from Falmouth in their Sealine S34, called Shark Bay, keeping a regular video diary which provides compelling viewing of their great adventure as well as unique views and insight into our wonderful coastline. Their route takes them eastwards along the south coast, around southeast England, across the Thames estuary and then along the full length of the east coast to Scotland and beyond, past Cape Wrath taking in the wildest and most remote shores of our islands. Shark Bay then turns south following Scotland's beautiful west coast before heading westwards to reach Northern Ireland. Their adventure takes them right around Ireland along the west and south coastlines before they head eastwards across the Irish Sea to west Wales and finally around Land's End back towards their home ...
