Busking the Big Apple
Ithaca College Television (ICTV) Producers: Christopher Burt Christopher Cucci Sarah Justine Woodhouse Busking the Big Apple (pilot) documents the life of individuals who earns a living through busking, also known as street performing. Busking is the act of performing live in a public place to entertain people. Through taking a cinéma vérité approach, we captured many of these performers in their attempt to make a living wage performing. We wish to bring attention to a New York City subculture that often goes unnoticed; a hidden subculture that reinvigorates us with color and life in contrast to a concrete gray environment. This short piece promotes the understanding of music in the community, even if it is on the streets of a concrete jungle, for it humanizes the our individualistic isolated society. Music in unconventional locations breaks apart our daily routine, creating a rich human experience. It may be a man drumming on a bucket in a tunnel, the sound of a Kena flute echoing off downtown skyscrapers, or a man strumming a guitar in his underwear. Awesome Electric Violin - Ed Busking Chester
Ed Alleyne-Johnson Busking Electric Violin in Chester UK - May 2006 Fantastic - This is perhaps the best street performance I have ever witnessed. Reminiscent of Jean Luc Ponte's visceral fusion sound. This is in the city of Chester near Wales. Chester has perhaps the only double decker shopping plaza streets, with a second level up off the street within the buildings, balconies running all the way down the streets. jablesj comments - "They were made by the victorians so that rich people would not get wet while out in the rain." The sound is unaltered from the original and was emancipated at great volume in this old town. Ed uses the looper and pedals to great effect. There are no overdubs. Incredible he commanded this fantastic show all by himself, I stood enraptured with all the hair on my body standing on end, grin stretched wide. You can see where he looked up to see my ebullient smile just before he grins and kicks in the distortion. This has been a tremendous inspiration for me. I had never heard him or heard of him before this performance. Ed is awesome! I got some albums of his from the web since hearing this. I hope I can see him again one day.

Dub FX busking during St. Kilda Festival 2012
February 13th, 2012 was the 32nd annnual St. Kilda Festival. Dub FX hit the street where his sound originated and busked for over three hours to hundreds of eager fans as the sun set. About half an hour before he finished, a drum and bass dance circle broke out as the other mic was open to any MC's who wished to perform alongside Dub FX.

This is a great group of buskers who are busking in the Galata region on the main thoroughfare to the Square. Their music sounds like Klezmer type jazz mixed with Balkan or possibly Arabic influences, Im not too sure but excellent music nonetheless.
