Leo Brouwer Etudes X,XII and VIII by played by R. Lohengrin
guitarist Raymond Lohengrin plays etudes X,XII and VIII by Leo Brouwer. Filmed by Douglas MC Leod at his home. The video shows the cover of the Cuban Guitar School method by Isaac Nicola and Leo Brouwer. This is a required collection of etudes in two volumes. Etude XII is the last etude in the 2nd volume. This version is different from the one published as #XII years later. I included an image of the music at the end of the video. In the earlier version there is a G flat in the bass and not and F natural. Also, in the later version there is an additional measure (measure #15) with three E notes . I like the earlier version better and it was the one I studied in school. "Un poquito de Historia" A Little Bit of History You may find this note interesting. Maestro Nicola is prove of the direct link of the Cuban School of Guitar to the Spanish School. Nicola was a student of Emilio Pujol and Eilio Pujol was a student of Francisco Tarrega. Nicola was also teacher of Leo Brouwer (and many other important Cuban guitarists) and together they published Books I and II and other volumes used as a requirement for the Cuban schools. RLohengrin
Brouwers Dam
Aerial footage of the Brouwers Dam. Completed at the end of 1971, the main purpose of the dam was to protect the islands of Schouwen Duiveland and Goerree Overflakkee. The dam was built in a position where it could take advantage of two large sandbanks: the Middelplaat and the Kabbelaarsplaat. The two sandbanks were connected together thus requiring a north and a south section of dam to be built. The southern section was closed by means of a return cableway, which is where crane-like cabins pass along a cable and plunge large concrete blocks into the sea from above. Ray Cokes arrives at Antwerp airport, where Jean is waiting for him to start their journey through the Belgian beer landscape. They first drive to Tiegem, where they visit the holy spring of brewwater, Saint Arnoldus. From there, they move on to the Struise Brouwers, Ratebeer winners of the "Top Brewers in the world" award.

Hop Cast Episode 146: De Struise Brouwers Cuvee Delphine & Mocha Bomb
Ken Hunnemeder and Brad Chmielewski have pulled out a couple De Struise Brouwers beers from the cellar. To start things off they open the De Struise Brouwers Cuvee Delphine. This 13 % ABV Russian Imperial Stout was a treat to try since it's rarely seen here in the states. The second De Struise Brouwers beer they open is the Black Damnation II - Mocha Bomb. This 12% Imperial Stout is in the Black Damnation series, one of a dozen different beers using Black Albert. This one contains 50% of Black Albert that was matured for a while on whole coffee beans out of a craft Columbian coffee plantation. Also 25% of Hel & Verdoemenis was also used after being aged for 6 months on JD barrels at Struise. Another 25% of Cuvée Delphine was also used. It was great to try the Mocha Bomb after sampling the Cuvee Delphine, it brought a bit more insight into what was involved in the creation of this beer. If you do get a chance to try the Mocha Bomb we'd recommend doing it along side the Black Albert and Cuvée Delphine. Thanks for watching the Hop Cast!
