Mos Def - Brooklyn
Dante Terrell Smith (born December 11, 1973), better known by his stage name Mos Def, is an American rapper and actor. Mos Def started his rap career as a member of the Native Tongue Posse collective and by guesting on albums by Da Bush Babees and De La Soul. He released a well-received album with Talib Kweli as Black Star, and was a major force in the late 1990s underground hip hop explosion spearheaded by Rawkus Records. His name comes from his frequent use of an abbreviated 'mos def' in place of the words "most definitely". Initially recognized for his musical output, Def's screen work since the early 2000s has established him as one of only a handful of rappers who have garnered critical approval for their acting work. Def is also an outspoken critic on social and political issues, and was particularly vocal in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Fort Green, Brooklyn was home base to an extraordinary community of black and Hispanic artists in the '80s and '90s. Spike Lee, Chris Rock, Rosie Perez, rapper Talib Kweli, artist Lorna Simpson, jazzman Branford Marsalis, rock guitarist Vernon Reed, and poet/rocker Saul Williams are just some of the talent that resided in the area. Writer and narrator Nelson George, a Fort Green resident since 1985, takes us on an intimate journey with old friends who tell the story of what Spike calls "Brooklyn's equivalent to the Harlem renaissance". Filmed in beautiful Fort Green Park, lovely brownstone homes and comfy cafés, the film explores why this black bohemian community grew, prospered and ultimately influenced a generation of artists. Rainy Streets of Brooklyn - In A Brooklyn Minute (Week 107)
The beauty of a rainy New York City street at night! No wonder for most NYC film shoots they want to have wet streets to reflect all the lights and give the asphalt that sheen. Except it actually doesn't rain here that much - so most film crews have to wet down the streets themselves. There are actually vehicles for that! That said, it actually rained a lot this May. And I have to admit I kind of love it. Although I'm not complaining that the sun has been out for a few days and will hopefully stick around for a while. #OWS Protesters March On The Brooklyn Bridge 700+ Arrested 10-1-11
Protesters started marching up the pedestrian walk way over the bridge while others tried to take the traffic lane. For a few minutes officers held the line and then they turned around and led the way up the traffic lane on the Brooklyn Bridge. From what I saw no police told any of the protesters to leave until they created a barricade in front of the march about halfway through the bridge. They then pulled vans and buses up to the back of the group and started arresting everyone. In total over 700 people were arrested.
