He was also amazed by the lack of effort to prevent these suicides. He was equally amazed by bridge officials' response to the suicides. The third longest suspension span in the world opened on July 1st. Only four months later, the great span's short life ended in disaster. "Galloping Gertie," collapsed in a windstorm on November 7,1940. The bridge became famous as "the most dramatic failure in bridge engineering history." Now, it's also "one of the world's largest man-made reefs." The sunken remains of Galloping Gertie were placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992 to protect her from salvagers. A dramatic tale of failure and success The story of the failure of the 1940 Narrows Bridge and the success of the Current Narrows Bridge is a great American saga. When Galloping Gertie splashed into Puget Sound, it created ripple effects across the nation and around the world. The event changed forever how engineers design suspension bridges. Gertie's failure led to the safer suspension spans we use today.

Upper Cut Productions was commissioned by BAM Nuttall and Network Rail to film a rail bridge reconstruction project in Reading, during the Christmas period of 2011. 3 weather-proofed time lapse cameras were installed in various locations to capture the progress of the new bridge construction - they have taken nearly 1/4million photographs over the last 6 months. Following the short video of the bridge move between 24.12.11 and 28.12.11, this video reveals the full project from the bridge construction to the site clearance after New Year. Video of world's longest sea bridge opened in China
The world's longest bridge over sea water has opened in opened to general traffic on in China's eastern coastal city of Qingdao. Jiaozhou Bay is located on the southern coast of the Shandong Peninsula in East China. It separates Huangdao District from Qingdao City and borders on two other cities, Jiaozhou and Jiaonan. The Qingdao Haiwan Bridge, with a total length of 42.4 kilometres would easily cross the English Channel and is almost three miles longer than the previous record-holder, the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in the American state of Louisiana. Built in just four years at a cost of 55.5 billion pounds, the sheer scale of the bridge reveals the advances made by Chinese engineers in recent years.

Also interviewed are people who have attempted suicide at the bridge, witnesses of the suicides, and a jump survivor. The movie was shot with multiple cameras pointed at a notorious suicide spot on the bridge during 2004.
