Boulder World Cup 2011 report - Vail
A great final round at the IFSC Bouldering World Cup of Vail assigned the victory to the Austrian team, with Fischhuber and Stöhr on the highest step of the podium. The atmosphere in Vail, in the framework of the well known Teva Mountain Games, was vibrant with excitement and expectation for what promised to be a perfect competition, and the cheers of the audience accompanied the athletes all the time, psyching them up. Kilian Fischhuber mastered the finals by flashing all boulders, while his Russian rival, Dmitry Sharafutdinov, made one attempt too much in sending all four problems. Third, with a bronze medal, the German Jonas Baumann, with two tops in 4 attempts. Anna Stöhr, in great shape, was the only woman to top all four boulders, while Alex Puccio (USA) and Melissa Le Neve sent only 3 in respectively 3 and 8 attempts. Kilian now is very close to the first ranked in the Boulder WC Ranking 2011, the Russian Sharafutdinov; Anna leads at a distance the women ranking, with Akiyo Noguchi (JPN) in second position.

Bouldering Competition - Rise Up 2009 - Panasonic DMC-GF1
This is video shot at the 2009 Rise Up Bouldering Competition. The comp was in Lynchburg Va. The club had a great bouldering section and an amazing 40+ foot lead and top rope wall. My 6 year old son and his climbing team did really well. The routes were appropriate for the little kids and more challenging for the adults. However, the open winner flashed all 5 of the hardest routes. He is an amazing climber though. If you are in Lynchburg I highly recommend checking Rise Up out. www.riseupclimbing.com The video was taken with my Panasonic DMC-GF1 and 20mm F1.7 lens. It was shot hand held without the use of Image stabilization.

When you "work" a "project" in the sport of bouldering in rock climbing, that basically means that you come back again and again to try to finish climbing (bottom to top) a certain boulder line. Crack climbing i essentially a style of climbing where you jam your hands within cracks of rock. Adam Ondra bouldering in Fontainebleau, France, Part I
Black Diamond athlete Adam Ondra has recently focused his energies to the world of bouldering, and the results have been stunning. This December, fresh off his second ascent of Gioia in Italy (at 8C+, one of the hardest boulder problems in the world), Adam set off for his first-ever visit to the iconic boulders of Fontainebleau, France. We sent videographer Alvi Pakarinen down to Font to film Adam during his four-day trip, and he was on the scene for a slew of hard sends by Adam, including his stunning flash of Gekko Assis (8b+), one of the hardest flashes in history, on his last day in the forest. Below is Video #1 of the three-part series Alvi edited together for us of Adam's trip, and follows Adam on his first couple of days in the forest as he discovers just how tricky and fickle Font climbing can be. Adam, though, is not one to get pushed around for too long and he quickly comes to form and rails off a series of 8A+ and 8Bs, including Sideways Daze (8B), Fata Morgana Bas (8A+, flash), Satan l'Helvéte (8B).
