Black college student admits to hanging nooses and making racial threats
Hate crime hoax. Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth had told TODAY'S TMJ4 the threats made towards African-American students at UW-Parkside were a hoax. The sheriff stressed that there was absolutely no danger to the students at UW-Parkside due to this threat. Through the investigation detectives were able to determine that there never was a threat of harm to students at UW-Parkside. An investigation led authorities to question a female student about the threats. The student allegedly told authorities she had made the hit list because she was not satisfied with the initial response from a resident assistant when that resident assistant was shown the rubber bands that were said to look like a noose. The suspect wanted greater attention to that issue. Freshman Carolina Diaz is shocked by the news, telling TODAY'S TMJ4, "I just think it's like ridiculous, that's something really serious." Meanwhile, Crystal Sims of the Black Student Union said how she felt about this, saying, "Anger. Disappointment. I believe it's extremely pathetic for someone to terrify their student body in such a matter because it is something serious." Authorities have not arrested anyone in this case. UW-Parkside police said they are trying to protect the perpetrator Friday evening. The name of the woman involved is being withheld in order to provide the opportunity to remove her from campus. UW-Parkside Chancellor Deborah Ford said, "It is good to find out that there was not an actual safety threat to ...

DIEversity
Diversity means making sure white males are not in the majority. That's why diversity is only an issue when the demographic is mostly white males. We can't have anything that consists mostly of whites or males only (let alone exclusive to whites or males) yet it's perfectly okay to have student unions for all races except for whites and perfectly fine to have 9 women's advocacy groups but 0 for men.

A Virtual Tour of the New Student Union
This building is historic, said Dillard University President Dr. Marvalene Hughes of the new Student Union, Recreation, Health & Wellness Center. The center will open with a ribbon-cutting ceremony following commencement on Saturday, May 8, 2010. We have not had a student union in the 140-year history of this university. We are excited to offer our students a welcoming space they helped to plan. Built behind the Cook Center and next to the campus duck pond, the $15 million Student Union, Recreation, Health & Wellness Center will cover 55000 square feet. This multipurpose center will house a 15000 square foot community health clinic that will be operated in partnership with Tulane University and EXCELth Health, Inc. It will also serve as home to a 7000 square foot conference center with a banquet hall, and workshop and meeting rooms. A bowling alley and fitness center will occupy the entire third floor. The center will also include a 60-seat movie theater and space for numerous small businesses and specialty shops. Students such as Maime Butler served on the planning committee. Its exciting because its our first student center, she said. Its going to give us entertainment, from a movie theater, to a bowling alley, she said. The center will also provide offices for student groups and provide spaces to hold meetings. Our student body holds a lot of forums, on topics such as sustainability, and Black History Month. Now well have the proper space for those forums, Butler said ...

A People's History of the UW! - May 26, 2010 - Bagley 131, UW Seattle May marks the 40th anniversary of the 1970 student strike in which thousands of UW students demonstrated to protest the war in Vietnam in the wake of the Kent State shootings. The Black Monologues (Part 1)
The Black Monologues is a program designed to celebrate the diversity within the Black community. Although students may share the same racial background, other aspects of their identity come together to create unique experiences. This program gives students, staff, and faculty an opportunity to share their stories through the performance of original monologues, while educating the broader campus community on institutional issues and experiences affecting (or not affecting) Black* members of the University of Maryland community. Originally created by the Black Student Union at Clark University in 2009, this program has begun to inspire students across the East coast.
