As a follow-up to the successful project Orange's "Elephants Dream", the Blender Foundation initiated another open movie project. Again a small team (7) of the best 3D artists and developers in the Blender community have been invited to come together to work in Amsterdam from October 2007 until April 2008 on completing a short 3D animation movie. The team members will get a great studio facility and housing in Amsterdam, all travel costs reimbursed, and a fee sufficient to cover all expenses during the period. The creative concept of "Peach" was completely different as for "Orange". This time it is "funny and furry"! www.bigbuckbunny.org
"What is Renderfarm.fi?" feat. Big Buck Bunny
This video was created in order to explain anybody what is rendering and why distributed rendering (and Renderfarm.fi) is useful. By using Renderfarm.fi, graphic artists and animators benefit from the ability to use higher image quality and higher resolution when rendering. Renderfarm.fi also enables and encourages everybody to participate in the rendering of stills and animations, regardless of whether they themselves are able to do 3D graphics. It takes only five minutes to volunteer. By dividing the work among hundreds of volunteer computers, an animation that takes months to render on single machine can be completed in a matter of days. Big Buck Bunny
Big Buck Bunny (code-named Peach) is a short computer animated film by the Blender Institute, part of the Blender Foundation. Like the foundation's previous film Elephants Dream, the film was made using Blender, a free software application for animation made by the same foundation. Work began in October 2007. The film was officially released in an April 10, 2008 première in Amsterdam while online movie downloads and files were released on May 30, 2008. The film was followed up with an open game titled Yo Frankie!, in August 2008. Plot: The plot follows a day of the life of Big Buck Bunny when he meets three bullying rodents, Frank (the leader of the rodents), Rinky and Gamera. The rodents amuse themselves by harassing helpless creatures of the forest by throwing fruits, nuts and rocks at them. After the deaths of two of Bunny's favorite butterflies, and an offensive attack on Bunny himself, Bunny sets aside his gentle nature and orchestrates a complex plan to avenge the two butterflies.

3D Animation Test - 'Big Buck Bunny' Flying Squirrel
This is not my character design. This design was created by the Blender Foundation, and is available free on the official site for download at www.bigbuckbunny.org . I just played around with it in Blender (a free 3D animation program available at http ) and made a little animation test. Considering that I have a pretty outdated computer, it took about 1hr 15min -- 1hr 30min to render the whole final test, at about a render rate of 2-3 minutes per frame. Enjoy. Big Buck Bunny - Project Peach - was Blender Foundations second Open Movie project, produced in the studio of the brand new Blender Institute in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Five artists and two developers have been invited to come over to Amsterdam for seven months to create a funny & furry 3D short movie with Blender. Lead by renowned Blender artists Sacha Goedegebure (story and direction) and Andreas Goralczyk (art direction) you can expect this to be a hilarious 3D cartoon! Just like project Orange, the movie itself and all of the production files have been published under the Creative Commons, free to be reused and for everyone to learn from. *Make sure to watch in high quality!* Heres a short animation I've been working on occasionally over the past 8 months using Blender v2.46. It is based shortly after the events in the Blender Foundation opensource movie project 'Big Buck Bunny' by the 'Peach team'. (Watch it first if you havent seen it yet, link is down the bottom) Big Buck bunny was released to the public free, mid 2008. That included all the production files. So to celebrate I decided to make my own animation using those files. This is what turned out. I also got permission from Jan Morgenstern to use his BBB music soundtrack. I hope you enjoy! The Kinected Bunny ("What is NI mate?" feat. Big Buck Bunny)
This short movie featuring Big Buck Bunny was created in order to explain what Delicode NI mate (www.ni-mate.com) is and what it has to offer to anybody owning a Microsoft Kinect (or similar) device. The movie was shot 80% as a live screen capture using the Microsoft Kinect with a computer running both NI mate (for tracking) and the Blender Game Engine (for real-time graphics) together with the official NI mate add-on for Blender. The last scene of the movie was done in part through motion capture and part as traditional animation.
