He announced on NBC's Meet the Press: "I am absolutely comfortable with the fact that men marrying men, women marrying women and heterosexuals are entitled to the same exact rights." Biden said as more and more Americans are familiarized with gay people, say, through TV shows like "Will and Grace," they're becoming more comfortable with gay rights. Despite this, Biden maintained the president sets policy. The Christian Science Monitor comments: "...the policy -- or at least the position staked out by President Obama -- is not the same as 'men marrying men, women marrying women.' Obama supports civil unions, but that's it. Politico reports the White House is trying to downplay the comment by saying Biden's position is the same as the president's. "The comments are the strongest so far from within the White House. ... There's growing frustration with Obama's reluctance to embrace gay marriage — especially among supporters who believe that the president personally supports them, but is holding off saying so for political reasons. Now Biden has added to the pressure..." A gay rights advocate told the New York Times Biden can't take the comment back. "Trying now to walk this back will only hurt them... At a campaign stop in Youngstown, Ohio, today, Vice President Joe Biden lit into Republicans and their presumed presidential nominee Mitt Romney for what he described as a failure to understand the plight of the middle class. I resent the fact that they think we're talking about envy: it's job envy, it's wealthy envy; that we don't dream," an impassioned Biden told a crowd of manufacturing workers. My mother and father believed that if my brother or sister wanted to be a millionaire, they could be a millionaire! My mother and father dreamed as much as any rich guy dreams! "They don't get us! They don't get who we are!" he yelled before the crowd, drawing loud applause. Biden was referring broadly to Republican criticism of the administration's push for higher taxes on wealthier Americans and expanded investment in federal programs aimed at boosting low- to middle-income families.

In an interview with Newsweek Magazine last week, Vice President Biden asserted that the Taliban isn't an enemy of the US, and said he is supportive of a reconciliation process between the Afghan government and the Taliban. "Look, the Taliban per se is not our enemy," said Biden. "There is not a single statement that the President has ever made in any of our policy assertions that the Taliban is our enemy, because it threatens US interests." During a Press briefing on Monday, White House Press Secretary, Jay Carney, agreed with the Vice President's sentiment, and went on to defend his position. Mr. Obama has actually flip flopped on this issue in the past [as illustrated in the video above, toward the end], but that is to be expected.
