Ministry of Sound Recordings are proud to present Tim Berg, aka Avicii, a hot new DJ/producer hailing from Stockholm. He only started out in 2008 at the tender age of 18 doing a bedroom remix of the theme tune to Commodore 64 game, 'Lazy Jones' and constantly leaked tracks on internet blogs to create the hype.. This led to his first release on Strike Recordings, 'Lazy Lace'. Berg became captivated and spent almost every waking hour in his studio creating remixes. Alban Berg: Wozzeck "Interlude"
Wozzeck is the first opera by the Austrian composer Alban Berg. It was composed between 1914 and 1922 and first performed in 1925. Since then it has established a solid place for itself in the mainstream operatic tradition, and modern productions are consistently sold out. Though its musical style is challenging, the quality of Berg's work (in particular, the characterization of the situation through clearly defined musical techniques) amply repays repeated listenings. Although a typical performance takes only slightly over an hour and a half, it is nevertheless an intense experience. The subject matter the inevitability of hardship and exploitation for the poor is brutal and uncompromisingly presented. Though Berg's musical style is not as violent as some other composers might have written for this story, the style suits the subject matter.

Proudly I present this video of my friend and former student Martin van den Berg. Listen to Martin's super sound on his "Kühnl & Hoyer" bass-trombone in "Saturday Night Is the Loneliest Night of the Week" arranged and conducted by Patrick Williams. Martin plays here with his own orchestra, the "Metropole Orchestra Big Band" from the Netherlands. Beside Martin the other trombone section members are Bart van Lier, Jan Bastiani and Jan Oosting. Little detail is that both Jan Bastiani and Jan Oosting also studied with me. Martin is professor at both the Amsterdam- and Rotterdam "Codarts" Conservatories. Sorry for the little synchronisation problem between sound and video!

On April 22 of that year, the beloved daughter of his friend Alma Mahler, Manon Gropius, died at the age of 18, and Berg ceased work on the opera to compose his Violin Concerto as a memorial. Working at an unusually fast pace, Berg completed the score by August 11, though did not live to hear its premiere in April 1936. Some commentators have lamented the fact that work on the Violin Concerto prevented Berg from completing Lulu, which many view as his most important work. Yet the Violin Concerto has become Berg's single most popular and regularly programmed work. Beyond the firmly tonal works of his youth, the Violin Concerto is also Berg's most accessible score in its compelling combination of both tonal and atonal idioms. As with many of Berg's pieces, the concerto follows a program governed by a strict formal design. The four movements are may be grouped into two parts of two movements each, with only a short break between movements two and three. The Palast of the Republik, gigantic monument left from the communist era, was to be replaced by the reconstruction of its predecessor, a XIXth century style palace. Under the menace of a demolition act, the Palast of the Republik was to live its splendor once more under the name of Volkpalast (the palace of the people). Raumlabor, a groupment of german architects decided to occupy and open the monument to the public. Many architecture installations were planned. The most monumental one was to be performed by Exyzt. Der Berg ( berg : mountain) is an artificial mountain, a surrealist architectural performance built to react to the absurdity of demolishing part of Berlin's history to reconstruct a long disappeared building. To take up the challenge, Exyzt had enlarged its team by inviting Serbian and Austrians architects. This collaboration resulted in a 20 meters high triangulated structure, made out of scaffolding and fiber glass textile. The installation invaded the theater, while another team made it spread through the roof and onto the front porch of the building. Der Berg became a monument inside a monument In 2006, the Palast der Republik has disappeared from the Berlin map.
