regard sur le passé (SLP10) - Bembeya Jazz National 1970
Previously posted in four parts, now posted in one piece.
Ballakè - Bembeya Jazz National 1973
Possibly late 1972. April 5th, 1973, singer Aboubacar Demba Camara would die in an automobile accident near Dakar. Rumour has it that sabotage by opponents of Sékou Touré might be the cause, but we'll never know for sure. The dynamics of Demba's voice and of the recording are enormous, so if you are not going to play this at the highest volume possible, better to not play this at all...Hear the depth!! Or at least, what YouTube compression left of it.
Bembeya Jazz - N'gnamakoro. 1979
Bembeya Jazz, fronted by the "trio bazooka" of Salifou Kaba, Moussa Touré and Mory Kouyaté, performing one of their hits from the Parade Africaine LP. More West African videos are at www.radioafrica.com.au
Armée Guinéenne - Bembeya Jazz National 1968

Bembeya Jazz National - Temtemba (HQ)
Bembeya Jazz National's 10 year jubilee concert in the "People's Palace" of Guinea's capitol, Conakry in 1971. The band stood at the pinnacle of its career, so this is a historical record in the best sense of the word. The recording is impressive: an audience of 2500, including the Politbureau(!) in Guinea's Democracy Party, are enthusiastically in place. The band performs with full accoutrements - the rhythm section consisting of several types of drums, a complete horn section, and not least the number one guitarist, Sekou Diabate. This is an incredible disk - top rate Cuban music, but performed by Africans who, of course, give it their own Afro-sound.
Bembeya Jazz - Petit Sekou. 1979
Bembeya's classic instrumental - recorded in 1979 at the RTG studios. More West African videos are at www.radioafrica.com.au
Bembeya Jazz - Tama tama. 1979
An unreleased-on-vinyl track, recorded in 1979 at the RTG. Sung in Maninka, the title translates as "Travelling far", and is a message to Guineans abroad "not to forget the fatherland". More West African videos are at www.radioafrica.com.au
