The bees push with their powerful wings from each side of my body, I resist and then I let go and flow and move with them. The birds ate all but one of my blueberries last year. They are not getting any this year. Using PVC pipe I put up some inexpensive netting (not bird netting) that keeps the birds out and lets the bees in. Because I painted the PVC black it looks good in the backyard.

New Findings About Loss of Bees

They pollinate flowers that become fruits, nuts and vegetables. But, in recent years, honeybee colonies in the United States and Europe have been shrinking. Scientists have proposed different theories to explain what is known as colony collapse disorder. New research suggests that a commonly used group of insecticides could cause bees to have a hard time finding their way back to their hive. The new research looks at the use of pesticides called neonicotinoids. They were first used in the nineteen nineties. They are now put on the seeds of many major crops around the world. The seedlings absorb the chemical as they grow. That means farmers do not need to spray a whole field. Instead there is a little bit of insecticide inside each plant -- including the pollen and nectar that the bees want.There is not enough pesticide to kill them. But the new research in the journal Science says it may harm them anyway. Researchers stuck microchips to the backs of the bees. These chips recorded the bees' movements as they came and went from their hive. The scientists fed some bees sugar water with a low dose of a neonicotinoid. The song was inspired by an actual bee who used to dive-bomb me while I sat outside and wrote raps at my old apartment in Central Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts. I'm not allergic to bees, or particularly scared of them normally, but this thing was so confrontational that I did actually feel compelled to run away from it in fear and hide in my hallway. This BEEf was going down in the summer of 2008; I looked up the average lifespan of bees on Wikipedia, and it's several months at best. But while the bee who was the subject of this song is definitely dead by now, I hope this video will make him immortal. Now I live in Los Angeles, where I recorded this song at my friend Nice Peter's house/studio....Pete directed and edited the video, and he also animated the bee. February 17, 2012 -- winter in the midwest United States -- most of us have noticed or heard people talking about this "warm winter" the United States is experiencing. Today -- blossoming flowers and buzzing honey bees !!! In St. Louis Missouri USA in February . Keep in mind, flowers and bees in a place where February NORMALLY produces negative fahrenheit temperatures -- frozen rivers and lakes. The north pole has shifted northwest into Siberia -- warmer latitudes have moved northwest along with the pole... bringing unnaturally (unseasonably) warm weather further north along with this change. Bumble Bee Nails
Here is a Bumble Bee nail tutorial for you guys =) I had no idea that you guys enjoyed nail tutorials so much. I wanted to do a Spring inspired nail design and my boyfriend mentioned Bumble Bees which I thought would be awesome idea. This design is nice & airy. Cute & Fresh. Pastel shades are huge for Spring/Summer. You can always choose a pink, green or yellow background if you wish. When I posted this as a twitpic, a viewer questioned whether I was taking credit for another girl's idea. I had no idea what she was talking about and she linked me to a blog post of a girl's nail design which did look similar. I promise you guys I had no idea that somebody already did something similar and it was pure coincidence. I've always drawn bees like this ever since I was a little girl (maybe from watching Winnie the Pooh? Not sure). The girl did an awesome job too but let's just agree that great minds think alike? All it takes is plenty of patience and practice. Like I always say, try to practise on a friend and vice versa. If this is too much for you- why not just try pastel shades on your nails? Sometimes simplicity looks best ^_~. A killer colour is all you need for your nails to stand out. To everybody asking about the contest- Deadline is 17th March (midnight so really 18th). It will take me a while to watch all entries again. Please be patient because I just don't want to be rushed watching your entries. I know you guys put a lot of work into it.
