The Incredible Bongo Band - in a gadda da vida
The Incredible Bongo Band, also known as Michael Viner's Incredible Bongo Band, was a project started in 1972 by Michael Viner, a record artist manager and executive at MGM Records. Viner was called on to supplement the soundtrack to the virtually anonymous B film The Thing With Two Heads. The "band's" output consisted of upbeat, funky, instrumental music. Many tracks were covers of popular songs of the day characterized by the prominence of bongo drums, conga drums, rock drums and brass. The band released two albums, 1973's Bongo Rock and 1974's Return of the Incredible Bongo Band. The song "Bongo Rock", co-written by Art Laboe and Preston Epps and released by Epps as a Top 40 hit in 1959, was covered by the Incredible Bongo Band as "Bongo Rock '73", and became a minor US hit for them in 1973, and a substantial hit in Canada. Michael Viner would make use of MGM recording facilities in down-time, recruiting whichever studio musicians were on-hand. This apparently included many well-known blow-ins, all uncredited. Ringo Starr is rumoured to have played on some tracks. The "down-time" sessions carried on for some time, until words from upper management finally quelled the vanity project. This was never an actual band. When product was finally released, a fake band was assembled and photographed. Those photos were seen on some album artwork, and in publicity. Band in a Bubble NYC "Making the Bubble" by TPG Architecture
Witness the genesis of this amazing project from the earliest concept sketches to a walk through the built space. Set to music, it even includes a time-lapse view of the Bubble being built out on Pier 54. WHAT IS THE BUBBLE? This roughly 2000 sq. ft. TPG-designed Bubble is the epicenter of a multimedia event, Dr Pepper's Band in a Bubble. The pop rock band Cartel will record their next album while dwelling full-time for 20 days in the ample abode. Members of TPG's design team used the relatively new and tremendously nifty modeling program (shown within, rendered in a web-friendly format) to convey the structural, interior and branding components. Much to their delight, the built Bubble looks exactly like the 3-D digital model! The web audience can look inside the Bubble via a 23-camera voyeuristic experience and partake in additional "2.0" content. MTV is producing a reality TV show that documents the event.

Ian Prowse text Ian Prowse is a singer/songwriter from Merseyside who has formed two well known bands. Pele were formed on Merseyside in 1990 with keyboard player Andrew Roberts. They released 3 albums on Polydor/M&G Records releasing Six singles reaching the UK charts, but abroad they scored hits in Belgium, Germany, Portugal, Holland and most notably a Number One in South Africa with 'Megalomania'. Ian Prowse formed Amsterdam in 1999, who had a UK top 40 single with "The Journey" in February 2005 . Their albums are: ▪Attitunes (Jan 2001), ▪Live left and uncovered (Dec 2001), ▪The Curse (Oct 2002), ▪The Journey (June 2005) and ▪Arm in Arm (March 2008) Amsterdam also appeared on the compilation album Mersey Boys and Liverpool Girls with their song "And It Hurts" and have appeared backing Elvis Costello on the Jonathan Ross show. Their song "Does This Train Stop on Merseyside" was proclaimed by John Peel to be his second favourite song after "Teenage Kicks" and that it moved him literally to tears, although public record of this statement seems to be amiss at the time of the publication of this Wikipedia article. From NME: "In a statement Liverpool band Amsterdam claimed that John Peel once said his second favourite song was their composition, "Does this Train Stop On Merseyside?" (behind The Undertones' "Teenage Kicks")." Amsterdam also released a duet on EMI Records of "Don't Throw Your Love Away" with Elvis Costello in Jan 2008 for the Liverpool Number One project ...
