Official Video 「 THE BAND －The Authorized Documentary－ 」 （Guest Comment）George Harrison, John Hammond Jr, Mary Martin ～ True Process ～ After 1965 Newport Folk Festival and The recording sessions, Bob Dylan needed an electric guitarist because Mike Bloomfield had already left the electric band(The Hawks got along with him and Paul Butterfield since Levon and Robbie met them early in 64), also James Burton turned down an offer to join the touring band. He was too busy then. Secretary from Tronto, Mary Martin who was working for Albert Grossman, she suggested to Dylan that Robbie Robertson because she would come down to see some bands of Yonge Street, she knew Levon&The Hawks, in fact, brought Rick "Hiway 61 Revisited" come out, and she called him up to tell him that she told Dylan about The Hawks. The son of John Hammond, John Hammoned Jr had taken Robbie by Columbia's studio in late June to watch recording of "Like A Rolling Stone". Robbie first met Dylan at Grossman's office. On Robbie's suggestion, Dylan invited Levon to the second rehersal for upcoming gigs at Forest Hills Tennis Stadium and the Hollywood Bowl. After they finished two electric gigs with Al Kooper(Levon had met him before) and Harvey Brooks, Dylan asked two guys of The Hawks to continue bucking him in his tour of America and Europe and Australia, but they responded that they couldn't see doing it without three brothers. The 27th video in my series is a live version of The Band's song "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" which was originally released on their 1969 debut album, The Band. The version in the video is actually from The Last Waltz concert from 1976. I originally worked the video to the original version, but changed to the live one later on and neglected to change the album art in the opening and closing credits to reflect that change (it would be immediately corrected were it not for certain hassles involved with re-uploading). I like both versions of the song equally well, but the applause in the live version seemed to add another dimension to the images and as a bonus the live version was a bit longer allowing for more images. Levon Helms vocals are absolutely perfect....truly one of the greatest folk/rock singers of all time. I've always been a huge fan of The Band, in great part to Levon's extraordinary talent and contributions. UPDATE 04/18/12....Levon is very sick and is in the final stages of his battle with cancer. Having just recently lost my own father in the same way, I'm wishing Levon a peaceful exit from his tired physical vessel to a higher state of enlightenment and being. Levon has shined brightly for so many years and i'm going to miss him! Thanks for the happiness you brought into mine, and so many other's lives.......soon you will shine even ...

CHECK OUT THE NEW VERSION: bit.ly ITBS (Iliotibial Band Syndrome) is common in runners, hence the designation as Runner's Knee. However, it can be created by any movement that repeatedly causes the knee to pass back and forth across the 30 degree position. The IT band is a fibrous connective tissue that attaches at the hip, runs down the outside of the thigh, and finally attaches on the outside of the shin bone just below the knee. Its primary purpose is to extend the knee and move the leg away from the body to the side. It is also extremely important for stabilization of the knee during running. Friction and irritation is common as the IT band crosses a bony prominence on the outside of the knee on its way to the shin bone. Pain is usually most noticeable when running downhill and can range from a sharp sensation on the outside of the knee to pain along the entire IT Band. The sore spot is typically painful to the touch. Frequently ITBS is seen in runner's who are often running on banked surfaces, doing excessive hill training, or running up and down stairs or bleachers. Typical treatment includes resting, icing, and light stretching. Massage therapy and the use of a foam roller can be helpful to some. The KT Tape application for ITBS is very helpful in relieving much of the associated pain by increasing blood flow and providing functional support. These functions also help to promote the healing process by taking stress off of the IT Band. Proper diagnosis of the source ...

****Note added 25 April 2010: When I was asked to create this presentation for a Remembrance Day assembly, I didn't know how I would show an "anti-war" song at an event that is supposed to honour our veterans. At the same time, war and military conflict was such a distant concept for our students, I wanted to some how make history relevant to them, let alone an "Australian" song that most of the our middle school students have never heard. The more I listened to Bogle's words, the more I realized that this song was about more than a moment in history. It's about how history repeats itself and the great sacrifices that are made during war and how futile it all is if we fail to learn from our mistakes. Making the transition from B/W to full colour to coincide with Bogle's words "We started all over again," I wanted to show how war is part of our past, present and (unfortunately) future. Great sacrifices have been made because of war. Bogle asks "What are they marching for?" I say they are marching to honour those sacrifices.
