Burnin' B-3 Tony Monaco Salutes Organ Legend Jimmy Smith
Master organist Tony Monaco, the Hammond B-3 Burner in Tribute to the Great Jimmy Smith. Jimmy Smith ruled the Hammond organ in the '50s and '60s. He revolutionized the instrument, showing it could be creatively used in a jazz context and popularized in the process. His Blue Note sessions from 1956 to 1963 were extremely influential and many, like 1960's Back at the Chicken Shack and 1958 's The Sermon, are classics. Smith turned the organ into almost an ensemble itself. He played walking bass lines and chordal accompaniment with his left hand, while solos were played with his right hand. A booming, funky presence punctuated every song, particularly the up-tempo cuts. Smith turned the fusion of R&B, blues, and gospel influences with bebop references and devices into a jubilant, attractive sound that many others immediately absorbed before following in his footsteps. Smith initially learned piano both from his parents and on his own. He attended the Hamilton School of Music in 1948, and Ornstein School of Music in 1949 and 1950 in Philadelphia. Smith began playing the Hammond in 1951, and soon earned a great reputation that followed him to New York, where he debuted at the Café Bohemia. A Birdland date and 1957 Newport Jazz Festival appearance launched Smith's career. His Blue Note recordings included both trio recordings and superb collaborations with Kenny Burrell, Lee Morgan, Lou Donaldson, Tina Brooks, Jackie McLean, Ike Quebec, and Stanley Turrentine, among others ...

In this guide, Sheriden details the fourth boss you'll encounter in the Karagga's Palace Palace Operation, for the 8man mode. GUIDE TEXT: Hey guys its Sheriden from SWTOREXTREME bringing you another Operation boss guide. I'll be going over the new boss found in Karagga's Palace, G4-B3. This is a kind of puzzle boss, and it comes with over 2million HP on normal 8man mode. You'll want to have an off tank for this, or at least someone able to taunt the boss. In order to start the encounter you will need to click a main console near the back of the room. Once used, you will see these three screens light up, and 3 consoles become available for use. One on the left, one in the middle and one on the right. The consoles are a major part of this fight, so you will need to assign someone with a brain to deal with them. We believe the best stategy is to use just one DPS for this role. I'll explain why later. Make sure they are a class with a run speed increase ability, such as a Sorcerer or Marauder. Also ensure one healer stays in sight of them, by staying on the top level. Your assigned button presser will need to use the consoles to move the green symbols into the correct positions. To start of, you'll need to move them to the right side where the boss is stood by default. The green symbols will need to be in THIS order. Once done, a Fire switch will become available next to the console. Once activated, a large amount of fire will shoot down onto the boss as you can see here ...

Barbara Dennerlein & Rhoda Scott on Hammond B3 Organ
Can you handle this much organ? We are used to guitarists like Duane Allman and Dickey Betts, or Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes mixing it up, but Rhoda Scott and Barbara Dennerlein prove that instrumental music isn't just a man's world. This impromptu performance took place in Switzerland in 2002 at the Bern Jazz Festival, bringing together two legends of the Hammond B3 Organ - the 5 time Downbeat Critics Poll Winner Barbara Dennerlein and the great Soul Jazz artist Rhoda Scott, aka "Barefoot Lady" - called a very great virtuoso by Arthur Rubinstein. For Dennerlein fans this is a bit unusual, because Barbara isn't playing pedal bass. This number "Nova" was composed by Rhoda, an accomplished pedal bass player herself, so she provides the bass lines. Not only are they smoking hot soloists, but check out the great interplay, harmonics, and accompaniment.

Jimmy's Walk - Barbara Dennerlein on Hammond B3
Barbara Dennerlein videos have now passed the 1000000 views mark on YouTube. This video is a thank you to all jazz, organ, and Barbara Dennerlein fans who have helped to spread the word. As many of you know, this title was written by Barbara and dedicated to the late great Jimmy Smith. Although her playing was not influenced by Jimmy Smith, like all jazz lovers she is grateful to him for his contribution to organ jazz - his approach to soloing made modern jazz organ possible - during her concerts she often mentions this fact and praises Jimmy Smith. Barbara and Jimmy first met when she was only 15 years old. She took part in an organ competition and Jimmy Smith was one of the judges. In an interview she described their first meeting: BD: "I sat down and played something different, "On the Sunny Side of the Street" and suddenly I noticed someone came from behind me and he took my hair, I had very long hair, much longer than now, and he put it to the side, and then he sat down and he played with me. [laughs] So really, it was great. AAJ: And you weren't expecting it at all? BD: No, it was incredible of course, wonderful. And then people were so shocked about their decision—he played with me, the second place finalist. The third place finalist didn't even play again after that! [laughs] It was really funny, and afterwards we stayed in contact. And it was really nice, until he started to see me as a competitor."
