Vertical Axis Wind Turbine
This wind turbine is based on the Lenz II design which measures 4 ft tall X 3 ft in diameter. The parts can be purchased at www.WindGenKits.com It has a 12 magnet, dual rotor alternater with 9 coils. Each coil is 70 turns. The wing construction is a steel frame made of laser cut ribs with tubular spars and a trailing edge. The ribs fit into notches on the spars and was welded together. The skin is .030" aluminum that has been fastened with rivets. The rotating assembly spins on a fixed shaft. Bearings and wing spokes are bolted to the center tri-star carrier plates. The wings can be quickly removed and swapped. Currently this turbine feeds a small bank of 2 GC-110 wet cell batteries wired in series for a 12V system. AC output is provided by a 1500W inverter.

Combat footage. German Wartime Newsreel (Die Deutsche Wochenschau). Operation Edelweiss (German: Edelweiß), named after one of the best-known European mountain flowers, was a German plan to gain control over the Caucasus and capture the oil fields of Baku during the Soviet-German War. The operation was authorised by Hitler on July 23, 1942. The main forces included Army Group A commanded by Wilhelm List, 1st Panzer Army (Ewald von Kleist), 4th Panzer Army (Colonel-General Hermann Hoth), 17th Army (Colonel-General Richard Ruoff), part of the Luftflotte 4 (Generalfeldmarschall Wolfram Freiherr von Richthofen) and the 3rd Romanian Army (General Petre Dumitrescu). Army Group A was supported to the east by Army Group B commanded by Fedor von Bock and by the remaining 4th Air Fleet aircraft (1000 aircraft in all). The land forces, accompanied by 15000 oil industry workers, included 167000 troops, 4540 guns and 1130 tanks. The starting point of the operation on the Krasnodar-Pyatigorsk-Maikop line was reached on August 10, 1942. On August 16 the battalion commanded by von Hirschfeld made a feint and reached the Kadar Gorge. On August 21 a Nazi flag was installed on Mount Elbrus, the highest point of the Caucasus.
