It features pro snowboarder Meesh Hytner getting caught in an avalanche and staying on top after deploying her BCA Float 30 avalanche airbag. While airbags can be extremely effective in preventing avalanche burial, they are no substitute for education and good judgment. A thick slab resting over weak facets is making a structure capable of producing avalanches. Areas where the snowpack is thinner, mainly around rock outcroppings are likely areas to trigger slides.

Many wet slab avalanches were triggered with explosives at Bridger Bowl today. Slides ran very far and wide. This one in Bridger Gully was the largest anyone has seen since the mid 1980s.

A poor day for visibility and camera work but a great day in May for sledding. Another huge avalanche to deal with but they are always an adventure. A few jumps, wheelies, and side hill riding thrown together for a "snowy mix" and poor focus on the zoom.

Snowmobile ride out of Avalanche
Rode out avalanche on snowmobile, fracture line was 4' - 6' deep, snow pile up at the bottom was 10' - 15' high.
Huge Avalanches in Elkford BC
Two avalanches side by side on the way into Smith Basin. The first one a size 3-4 and the second one, definitely a size 5. The debris pile was huge; 50' or 18m deep and easily more than a kilometer across the base of both slides. Spring riding can be treacherous; be careful out there.

Skiing close to an official off piste slope: here are the exact Latitude/Longitude to find it on Google Earth: Lat: 46.148 Lon: 7.36 March 14th 2006, Nice sunny day, no clouds, no wind. Avalanche risk level 3 of 5. About 4-5 tracks of skiers and snowboarders were already there before I skied it. I'm the guy skiing (not the guy filming). I have skied out of the avalanche to the right behind the rock. See for yourself. Note: We were equipped with Ortovox avalanche systems, shovels, probes etc.

I Shouldn't Be Alive: Alaskan Avalanche (S01E10)
In April 1989, Dave Nyman and Jim Sweeney are scaling a sheer ice-wall in an Alaskan mountain. Jim falls and is badly injured, and Dave is forced to ski down. Dave returns to Jim after a talk with some tourists and they both eventually survive 7 avalanches and a large crevasse together. A passing aircraft sees his SOS signal, but the pilot damages the landing gear while landing.
